TWAT UNION – British Female Indie Hit Team Nail It With Their Sickly Catchy Debut Single ‘UTI’

6 December 2023

Band: TWAT UNION
Who: A one-of-a-kind all female seven piece producing a huge sound, combining influences from the Riot Grrrl era with current punk trailblazers such as Dream Nails
and Lambrini Girls.

Kate Mac (frontwoman): “People don’t talk about UTIs very much, but most of us have had them, and most of us hate them (no kink-shaming if you like them but we would love to hear from you if you’re actually a fan). And if you don’t get them, we guarantee you know someone that does. This song is for everyone to shout, laugh, cry, and generally express your anger about female and non-binary medical problems (we know some men get them too) and maybe we can change the narrative around when and how it’s ok to talk about issues down there”

TUTV: First things first. Twat Union is one of the craziest band names I heard all year.
I love it when musicians have a cool sense of humor. Secondly, this female hit team’s debut single UTI is a winner. Pure buzz and fuzz indie. Ridiculously catchy. Its funky swagger, its explicit vocals/harmonies and classic guitar solo (how are you, Slash?) are all you need to get your ears and limbs enthusiastic. Big fun gang! Striking stroke!

Clap your hands.

MAQUILLAGE – Belgian Shoegaze Romantics Shine On Their Stellar Debut Single ‘BLUE’

Daily electricity to load your batteries

6 December 2023

Band: MAQUILLAGE
Who: A cross-border band composed of two members from
sunny Italy and two from less sunny Belgium. Originating from
an online advertisement, a meeting of two worlds follows,
where they profile themselves as a DIY-driven collective.

Debut single: BLUE

“Blue is more than just a song to us; it’s an emotional story about the
nuances of love and connection. In the music video we wanted the fragility
and splendor capturing these themes in a way that resonates with our
listeners. We are proud to share this creation with the world.”

TUTV: This is truly enchanting. Expect electrifying layers of glistering guitar
sparks (think NYC’s idols Interpol), shining like a full moon on a dark winter night. Melodious shoegaze bliss, with expressive female vocals floating all over it. Along
its lustrous course, this jam gets more intensified, sending shivers down your spine.

Green is Xmas’s dominant color, blue is the 2nd one. No, not everybody feels happy
during the yearly, classic festive family days. Maybe this sonic blue pearl can bring some comfort and light to some of them. Stellar debut accompanied by a romantic video clip.

PETRICHOR – Young Irish Wolves Cut With A Serrated Knife Throughout Their Stunning Debut Single ‘PIOUS’

25 September 2023

Band: PETRICHOR
Who: Four-piece band from Wicklow, Ireland
formed in November 2022

Debut Single: PIOUS

Blowtorch Records: “Pious” serves as both an expose and an antidote
to the frustrations of a generation struggling under the weight of societal
issues. With its heavy instrumentation and haunting melodies, this debut
single offers a glimpse into a new, compelling direction for Irish music.
Dark, heavy, and undeniably evocative.

Band: “When we were writing Pious, we wanted it to have a hectic feel, like it was all
over the place but still put together, organised noise in a way. At the time we were heavily inspired by the fusion of electronic industrial music and loud rock, similar to the likes of Gilla band, Enola Gay, Nerves and Naked Lungs. But that wasn’t everything. We wanted to create something that sounded and felt new, and try to avoid relying on other music, which was all part of our creative process which we discovered by just jamming endlessly until we found something that clicked.”

TUTV: The far-out intensity, soundwise and vocally, at play here cuts like
a serrated knife throughout this jagged mid-tempo jam. Schizophrenic guitars
create an ominous atmosphere and, Lu Hope‘s delirious primal screams come
from a pitch-dark place. Halfway, the band take a short breather to fuel their
tank and turn up the decibels for a crushing finale.

Reference? The exorcistic and mood-swings turbulence of The Murder Capital.
Yes, that hellish good. Stunning debut. Perfect for music junkies in a straight
jacket.

MELOMANIA – Very Young British Bloodhounds Score Big Time With Smashing Debut Single ‘ATOMIZE’

17 September 2023

Band: MELOMANIA
Who: 3 hungry indies – 15, 15, and 16 years old – from Hull, UK.

New single: ATOMIZE
The band’s debut.

About: “Lyrically the track portrays Melomania’s thoughts and feelings on modern society
and how people feign a lack of intelligence and ignorance to fit in with the modern ‘norm’.
It’s a message to not waste your potential in life – don’t Atomize to avoid ridicule but make
the most of your talent, regardless of people’s opinions.”

TUTV: It’s always a fantastic moment when teenagers leave their bedrooms, pick up a guitar, a bass and a drum and rock their hearts and souls out with gusto, bravado, and fearlessness. There’s always an old generation that fades away, there’s always a new one needed to come forward and hit the music scene. Enter young bloodhounds Melomania.

That said, be ready for a wall-of-fulminating-guitar racket that scares your speakers.
Atomize is a mean riff machine with a clamorous chorus. Open your windows and
doors and awake the whole neighborhood. Whether they like it or not, it’s your stereo,
it’s your time to make a stand, it’s your new fav band and it’s your way of spreading the LOUD word that there’s a new gang in town.

Stand up, get up and fight for your right to go nuts to
Melomania‘s raw sonic appetite and their kick-ass attitude.

Smashing debut!

and rolls forth and back, up and down, left and right. Expect a funky guitar/bass

MORPHINE RIDGES – New Ensemble Debut With Gloomy Twilight Reverie ‘ROUTE 36’

7 September 2023

Band: MORPHINE RIDGES
Who: A new liaison, based in Berlin, led by Andreas Miranda (Lucy Kruger and
the Lost Boys, Third Sound, Ex Camera) blends dark country riffs with lap steel
guitar sliding through the cracks of shadowy vocals.

Debut single: ROUTE 36

Press info: “Route 36 is a perfect forerunner of the colder months, as it’s easily getting
us into a blurry melancholic mood. Route 36 is a nocturnal soundtrack for a smirking drifter. Navigating between haunted roads and silent thunder, a place between reluctant belonging and unyielding adoration. A solemn pursuit for an unenviable terminus. This road has long lost sight of reality, disembarking on perpetual winter maintenance.”

Single artwork

TUTV: Route 36 is a gloomy ballad for the twilight hours, when reality and fantasy
get together and your dusky thoughts float somewhere in the middle. It’s a murky
mind-wanderer, with vulnerable vocals and melancholic guitar lines, triggering
darksome images on your head’s inner-screen.

But unexpectedly, near the end, you’re awakened from your hallucinatory
state of mind with a wall-of-flabbergasting-electrical disturbance leaving you
behind, totally puzzled. What a bone-chilling debut this is.
