Valentine’s Day With KEVIN ROWLAND & DEXYS And Their Magnifcent Love Ballad ‘MY SUBMISSION’

14 February 2026

I guess lots of people only know DEXYS (previously named Dexys Midnight Runners) from their giant 1982 hit Come On Eileen (more than 806 million streams on Spotify), but the now 72-year-old mastermind Kevin Rowland has done so much more in his 52 years in the music biz.

The most recent Dexys album The Feminine Divine, came out in 2023. A masterly crafted record featuring a song called MY SUBMISSION, one of the best love ballads I ever heard.

Happy Valentine.

[Verse 1]
And I will worship and adore
In every way
And I will do as you will

[Chorus]
Oh I’m yours
I crave your smile
And I always will
You, you, you are everything
You, you, you are my world
And I, I will give you all you want and more, so please

[Verse 2]
Now you own me
I’m trusting all to you
I’m scared, but I’m excited
You could disown me if you choose
And leave me completely alone
I’m trusting all to you
You have the power now
I hope you will look after me and I will be your pet, to do with as you will

[Chorus]
Oh, I’m yours
I crave your smile
And I, always will
You, you, you are everything
You, you, you are my world
And I, I, I’ll dedicate my life to serving you

Happy 70 To DEXYS Maestro KEVIN ROWLAND – To Celebrate Here’s His New Masterstroke Ballad ‘SUBMISSION’

17 August 2023

KEVIN ROWLAND was born in Wednesfield, Wolverhampton, UK. Happy 70 to the magnificent voice/songsmith of Dexys Midnight Runners, later shortened to Dexys.

They formed in 1978 and got their first triumph with the 1980 soul-infused
debut LP Searching For The Soul Rebels featuring No 1 hit Geno.

Two years later they gained massive attention with their 2nd longplayer Too Rye Ay
with million-seller single Come On Eileen which topped the US and UK charts. More than
553 million streams on Spotify so far.

Now, after 45 (!) years, several line-ups and several hiatuses Dexys released (only)
their 6th album, the highly entertaining and feel-good full-length The Feminine Divine.

To celebrate Rowland‘s 70 birthday, I’m not going to play one of the golden oldies.
Instead, I’ll spin (for the umpteenth time) the new goosebumps masterstroke balled
off the new LP, named MY SUBMISSION. I listened to it at least once a day since it came
out as a single at the end of last month. Here we go for the 6th spin of this festive day.

Pure diamond.

Relaxing Record For Relaxing Moments – DEXYS Have Their New Album ‘THE FEMININE DIVINE’ Out

7 August 2023

Famous British soul-pop combo DEXYS (1978–1986, 2003–present, and known
until 2012 as Dexys Midnight Runners) led by mastermind Kevin Rowland released
their 6th LP, titled The Feminine Divine

AllMusic says: “Nobody expects him to go back in time and deliver another classic
album like Too-Rye-Ay, but it doesn’t seem too much to ask for him to make a record
that has more zip than this. That being said, it’s always good to get another transmission
from the heart and soul of Kevin Rowland, even one lacking the sweat and excitement he usually delivers.”
Score: 3.5/5.

TUTV: The 4 first songs are easy-going, feel good, sunlit tunes. But from track 5 on
until the closer Rowland takes a soft turn with bluesy musings and emotive lullabies.
Overall nothing to get wild about. It’s a relaxing record for relaxing moments. And
that’s fine by me.

Waking Up With… EILEEN

7 August 2022

This day 40 years ago, on 7 August 1982, Birmingham‘s DEXY’S MIDNIGHT RUNNERS
led by flamboyant frontman Kevin Rowland topped the UK Singles Chart with their international hit ‘COME ON EILEEN‘ (the song was actually credited to Dexys Midnight Runners and the Emerald Express).

The famous music video was shot in the inner south London suburb of Kennington.
The ‘Eileen‘ character in the clip was played by Máire Fahey, sister of Siobhan Fahey
from Bananarama.

C’mon Eileen…

DEXYS MIDNIGHT RUNNERS Released ‘TOO-RYE-AY’ Album 40 Years Ago Today

Back in time

22 July 2022

Band: DEXY MIDNIGHT RUNNERS (Birmingham, UK)
Active: 1978–1986, 2003–present / 5 LPs

Anniversary LP: TOO-RYE-AY – 2nd album
Released: 11 July1980  – 40 years ago
Score: #2 in the UK, #14 in the US

AllMusic: “Throughout the album, Rowland’s distinct, unique voice takes the fore, but the revamped Dexy’s lineup proves it was the original version’s equal, if not better. Excellently produced by Rowland and the legendary Clive Langer/Alan Winstanley production team, Too-Rye-Ay sounds like an old soul revue recorded on-stage, no doubt an intentional goal.”

TUTV: Dexys giant hit album even seduced the US. C’mon Kevin Rowland, you did it.
Btw: their debut LP Searching For The Young Soul Rebels (1980) and Don’t Stand Me
Down
(1986) were high-quality albums too, although less successful than this one
(thanks to triumphant single ‘Come Eileen‘)

Highly Acclaimed Third LP ‘DON’T STAND ME DOWN’ By DEXYS MIDNIGHT RUNNERS Turns 35 Today

22 September 2020

Band: Dexys Midnight Runners
Active: 1978–1986, 2003–present
Album: Don’t Stand Me Down – third LP
Released: 22 September 1985 – 35 years ago

AllMusic wrote: “Freed (in his own mind at least) from the tiresome dictates
of the band’s hitmaking past, Rowland conceived an album that drifts past in
a blur of haunting and sometimes haunted melodies, with the vocal lines floating
almost conversationally over them. Play the album once, then think back on it later,
and all you remember is the sheer casual joy of it all, the sense that Dexy’s gathered
in the studio for fun as much as profit, and if nobody liked what they did, which they
didn’t, then so be it.”
Score: 4/5.

White soul frontman Kevin Rowland: “I own records that have
the power to make me cry. Records to be by or with – truly precious
possessions. It is the ambition of the Midnight Runners to make
records of this value.”

DEXYS MIDNIGHT RUNNERS – Debut LP ‘Searching For The Young Soul Rebels’ Released 40 Years Ago

12 July 2020

Band: Dexys Midnight Runners (Birmingham, UK)
Active: 1978–1986, 2003–present
Album: Searching For The Young Soul Rebels – debut LP
Released: 11 July1980  – 40 years ago
Score: #6 in the UK

BBC Music said: “Although coming four years after the first summer of punk, Searching For
The Young Soul Rebels by Birmingham eight-piece Dexys Midnight Runners is probably the truest capturing of the movement’s spirit ever released in Britain… Remember, this was a time when soul was seen as something of a delicacy, liked by the northern crowd or females while the boys had their prog or Pistols. When Dexys played songs such as Otis Redding’s Respect in their set, young British audiences had largely never heard of them and thought they were the group’s originals… Although Rowland may have had bigger hits (Too Rye Ay) and made a greater work (1985’s Don’t Stand Me Down), SFTYSR – fierce, raging and passionate – remains one of the greatest debut albums of all time.”

Here’s steamy top single Geno (no 1 hit n the UK)…
