A Silent Ambient Night With DREW FIVE And His Piano Synthphony ‘HEADING NORTH’

Daily electricity to load your batteries

20 December 2025

Artist: DREW FIVE
Who: A versatile musician from London who creates/records electronica,
ambient minimalism, neo-classical and post-rock. He’s also half of electro
pop duo Feral Five and Dice Machine.

Track: HEADING NORTH

It’s the third solo movement in a recent minimalist trilogy which includes
the instrumental pieces Stars and Mélodie. It is also featured on Drew’s
new mini-album On The Nature Of Light.

On Heading North we encounter the soundtrack to an imaginary Scandi-noir detective/thriller. With Nordic-jazz echoes that evoke tales of mystery and
imagination, we embark on a journey to find
answers.

This track suggests going places – as the play on words in its title suggests.

It is the antithesis of “heading south” and very much heading in the right
direction. And as we warm ourselves by our northern winter hearths, there
comes hope of resolution in endless Arctic summer days where the sun
finds its home.

Have a silent ambient night, people.

DREW FIVE – British Versatile Electro Musician Covers 1982 Pearl ‘SHIPBUILDING’

8 July 2025

Artist: DREW FIVE
Who: A versatile musician from London who creates/records electronica, ambient minimalism, neo-classical and post-rock. He’s also half of electro pop duo Feral Five
and Dice Machine. Five also works on his own. Two weeks ago he released the atmospheric-ambient single The Runner

And now he comes up with his take on 1982 pearl Shipbuilding (linked to
the Falkland Wars), with lyrics by Elvis Costello, music by Clive Langer and sung
by the great Robert Wyatt.

A risky effort to cover this particular song, but Five does it
gracefully and stylishly, bringing soft Moby moments to mind.

Tom Kelly from Philly. Last year they launched their 3rd LP
Mid-Earth

Track: I DON’T WANT TO TALK TO YOU

This sonically two-faced roller coaster starts smoothly and funkadelic
until aggressive guitars take over and get in your face. Then the mood
swings process starts all over again. Somebody is grumpy here.

Track: MAYBE WHEN WE WERE 30
Single from their forthcoming 3rd LP
Boys These Days, out on 23rd May.

“One morning you look around, and all your friends are getting married, and you think,
maybe all I really want is to grow old, and get a dog, and write horrible things about Brooklyn Beckham on Facebook, and go on cruises, and have petty disputes with my neighbours about whether the council recycles cardboard.”

Gloriously affecting and steadily boogielicious
with musing duet vocals all over it until
sinewy guitars, slowly but surely, augment
the intensity of this witty mixed emotions
tune.

New Ambient Pop Beginning – Let’s Join DREW FIVE At ‘THE MEETING PLACE’

New sonic impulses…

25 July 2020

DREW FIVE is one half of British exciting electro-dance duo Feral Five. As a composer, he scored for independent movies and written for installations and dance. His first solo music just saw the day of light.

THE MEETING PLACE is the first single from his
forthcoming album, entitled SPLINTERS OF LIGHT.

“‘The Meeting Place’ happens in the space between then and now. It asks us to reconsider what being human really means and how communities evolve through the shared values of truth and love. Produced in Drew’s new studio on the banks of the river Medway in England, the track takes the listener across the Atlantic to the birthplace of Drew’s maternal grandfather. We can hear voices at play on the shores of Lake Ontario. Are these sound waves from the past, or are they speaking to us from the future? Mixing Drew’s Canadian field recordings with guitars, bass, beats and a multitude of electronics, the song urges a post-lockdown rethink of who we are and what we can become. Immerse yourself in a new beginning.”

This electronic head-in-the-clouds symphony proves, once more, how powerful music
is. Just close your eyes and it takes you to other places, it brings back lost memories, it’s multifaceted in order to suit every mood. ‘The Meeting Place‘ is a telling example. An ambient pop fantasy to soundtrack your dreams, your desires and your hopes. Inspiring, catchy and enchanting with Drew‘s voice floating all over it. A stimulating tune for a new beginning.
