THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN – 7 New Firecrackers From The Past Week

7 new firecrackers from the past 7 days

1. Forgotten by KORN (Bakersfield, CA)

This new single is vintage Korn. Uncomplicated nu-metal for everybody
who wants their ears to go bonkers. From their forthcoming, 14th LP
Requiem, out early next month.

Arggghhh…

2. Won’t Stand Down by MUSE (UK)

This comeback haymaker is” “about standing your ground against bullies, whether that
be on the playground, at work or anywhere.”
I was a fan of early Muse exploits (their 2004 masterwork Absolution still gives me goosebumps). Their stardom made them go a bit too artificial and predictable for my liking. But this new one roars hard with a metallic sound as big as St Paul’s Cathedral in London. Cast-iron!

Turn up the heat…

3. UZI by BLURT (Gloucestershire, UK)

The late 70s cult post-punks (Factory Records) are back and their free-jazz-punk
firework is still intact. Led by poet/musician Ted Milton the mavericks groove as hell.
Message to all young bands out there: listen and take notes.

Let’s roll…

4. Wrong Answers Only by THE STREETS and MASTER PEACE (UK)

The Streets‘ musical brain Mike Skinner and rapper Master Peace
joined forces for this easy-going hip-pop jingle.

5. Be The Hook by PAVEMENT (Stockton, CA)

Not really a new track. It’s a previously unrealized song from their Twilight Terror
album sessions (their final LP – 1999). It will be part of a deluxe reissue edition titled Terror Twilight: Farewell Horizontal’, out next April. More info here.

6. Brother The Cloud by EDDIE VEDDER (Seattle)

Eddie Vedder has his third solo album Earthling. I could swear
that this explosive single comes from a lost Pearl Jam longplayer.

Here’s why…

7. Love Is Selfish by JACK WHITE (Detroit)

Busy bee Jack White (real name: John Anthony Gillis )
gives birth to his 5th solo LP Fear Of Down in April.

EDDIE VEDDER Announces Solo Album And Shares Springsteen-esque Lead Single ‘LONG WAY’

9 September 2021

Artist: EDDIE VEDDER
Frontman of grunge veterans Pearl Jam

New album: EARTHLING – 3the solo LP
Release date: TBA

Vedder is definitely a Bruce Springsteen fan and vice versa.
Recently they teamed up for Tom Morello‘s new album with
a burning cover of AC/DC classic ‘Highway To Hell’. But the two
big voices collaborated before and also played at each other
concerts as a guest.

Why do I tell all this? Well, close your eyes and listen carefully.
‘Long Way’ sounds like Vedder is covering a Springtseen song…

Pearl Jam Maestro EDDIE VEDDER Covers R.E.M. Hit ‘DRIVE’ For Sean Penn Film

24 August 2021

Inflammable actor/director Sean Penn orchestrated a new movie
called Flag Day, a crime drama. The film’s soundtrack features lots
of ’90s alt-rock.

Pearl Jam‘s maestro EDDIE VEDDER is part of it with a cover of the superb
R.E.M. hit DRIVE from their outstanding 1992 LP Automatic For The People.

Vedder‘s version resonates sonically almost identical to the original,
the only difference is that he, just like ichael Stipe, has a great voice.

Five Firecrackers To Stay On Track… In The Weekend

5 new firecrackers to fuel for the weekend…

‘I’M WAITING FOR THE MAN’ by MATT BERNINGER

The National’s frontman Matt Berninger is part of the impressive cast
of artists covering each a track of the historic 1967 debut LP on an
upcoming tribute album for The Velvet Underground.

Here comes your man…

‘Monster Love’ by THE JACKLIGHTS (Boston, US)

This is my favourite track from this tight trio’s new 5-track EP Drift. It’s a jagged jackhammer that rotates full steam ahead driven by hammering drum beats, ablaze
guitar layers, and poppy vocals on top of it. Need electricity to load your batteries?
Monster Love will satisfy your needs. Damn right!

They just wanna turn you on

‘Highway To Hell’ by TOM MORELLO feat. Bruce Spingsteen and Eddie Vedder

The Rage Against The Machine guitarist announced his new, third solo, album, titled
The Atlas Underground Fire, out in October. One of the tracks is a cover of AC/DC‘s
1979 massive slam dunk Highway To Hell with awesome vocals by Spingsteen and Pearl Jam‘s main man Eddie Vedder.

Hell is this way…

‘The Blues Came In’ by THE BURNER BAND (Leeds, UK)

This Leeds’ rockabilly and roots duo brings the shake-and-twist of the 50s back to 2021. They rattle and roll, they riff and rock with a swirling pace. Get those dusty dance shoes out of the closet and make your move. Big fun guaranteed!

The track is from their debut album Sings and Wonders out 3 September
through Shed Load Records (vinyl) and digitally/CD via Bandcamp

Dance yourself dizzy right here…

‘Be The Only One’ by RISE CARMINE (Canada)

A song “about catharsis. It invokes the feelings of those who are subservient
to an autocrat and their dreams for release from oppression; a Shakespearean
betrayal under cover of darkness.”

Expect a psychedelic groove with a bluesy touch, electrical vibe,
catching progression, and reflective vocals floating all over it. Yes!

Be the one here…

classic 1979 blockbuster HIGHWAY TO HELL.
