Who: Socially engaged indie pop-rockers who started their journey back in 2003.
In the very beginning, they operated as British Air Power, but changed it quickly to
British Sea Power. But last summer the band announced another name change,
dropping ‘British‘.

New album: EVERYTHING WAS FOREVER
Released: 18 February 2022 – order info here

NME says: “Britain can often feel like an awful place to be right now. A corrupt government brazenly trashes democracy on a daily basis, with the farcical partygate scandals continuing to engulf the establishment. It’s like a never-ending episode of The Thick Of It. Add to that a brutal pandemic, soaring energy prices and bands being fucked over by Brexit and you’ve pretty much got the perfect shitshow… ‘Everything Was Forever’ is A brutal but beautiful album that we can all relate to now… In ‘Everything Was Forever’, the Brighton-formed six-piece have constructed a hopeful and defiant record that rails against ugly, insular points of view.” Full review here. Score: 4/5.

Turn Up The Volume: To my greedy ears, pop-ular music is about tantalising tunes
with an instantly affecting catchiness, simple and glowing, warming your heart and soul with beatific-blue ballads and triggering your singalong skills with ecstatic anthems. It’s
all here, gem after gem after gem.

The cliche ‘all killers no fillers’ is undisputedly applicable here. Sea Power tackles, rightly so, the rotten state of the UK- God Save the Queen, there’s no future in England’s dreaming – but the music sounds like there’s a small light at the end of the Brexit tunnel. Fingers crossed.

New Albums 2022 – ‘EVERYTHING WAS FOREVER’ By (British) Anthemic Rockers SEA POWER

19 January 2022

Band: SEA POWER (Reading/Brighton, UK)

Who: Socially engaged indie pop-rockers who started their journey back in 2003.
In the very beginning, they operated as British Air Power, but changed it quickly to
British Sea Power. But last summer the band announced another name change,
dropping ‘British‘.

Why? They told The Guardian: “It was the combination of “British” and “Power” that
no longer worked for us. We imagined a youngster at a European festival in the 21st
century looking at the programme and seeing a band name including the word “Hungarian”
or “Russian” alongside “Power”. It would likely send your mind in a certain direction – quite possibly to the isolationist, adversarial nationalism that has recently taken a hold around the world. We’ve always wanted to be an internationalist band – as heralded in our track Waving Flags, a song of pan-European idealism.”

Along came the news of a new longplayer – their seventh full length – five years after
the sterling The Dancers Inherit The Party, which, in a normal world, would have been
a massive hit LP. Anthemic tunes, rich sound, sharp observations on politics, on our neglected environment, on people’s crumbling togetherness, and on life in general…
oh, before I forget this: go see them play live if you have the opportunity, and you’ll
have a glowing experience. Trust me, I saw them several times.

The new one, titled EVERYTHING WAS FOREVER
lands on 11 February. Pre-order info here.

BRITISH SEA POWER Is Dead – Long Live SEA POWER…

10 August 2021

Band: SEA POWER
Who: Longtime indie pop/rockers from Brighton UK.
For 20 years, they named themselves British Sea Power,
now they have decided to change it to just Sea Power.

Why? Here’s an extract of the band’s statement:

“After much reflection and soul-searching, the band formerly known as British Sea Power
have modified their name to simply Sea Power. We’ve been British Sea Power for 20 years,
an amazing 20 years, when we’ve been able to continually traverse the British Isles, to travel
the world, encountering many friendly faces, not least in the band’s remarkable audience. But the name British Sea Power had come to feel constricting, like an ancient legacy we were carrying with us…

We all still live within the British Isles, but we are now just Sea Power. We feel the name change comes in part from the band’s audience – who at a good show will shout out, “Sea Power! Sea Power!” Maybe this name change has been there for years, shouted in our ears. It’s just taken us this long to realise – to hear what was there in front of us…”

NEW ALBUM: EVERYTHING WAS FOREVER
Their 8th longplayer
Release: 11th February 2022

LEAD SINGLE: TWO FINGERS

Vintage power pop that always gives me a heartening
and blissful feeling. They resonate as if this troubled
world we live in has a hopeful future. Two Fingers is
a glistening gem. Welcome Sea Power.

Tune in…
