AllMusic: “XTRMNTR is a nasty, fierce realization of an entire
world that has also lost the plot. It’s simply a protest, sonically
as well as lyrically, and maybe this would be a fine time to once
again rally behind something worthwhile.”

New Albums In 2024 – GRANDADDY Have Their 6th One ‘BLU WAV’ Out On 16 February

25 December 2023

Californian daydreamers GRANDADDY, now centred more than ever
around, singer-songwriter Jason Lytle give birth to their 6th longplayer,
named BLU WAV on 16 February 2024. Pre-order info here.

Press info: “A prolific storyteller, Jason Lytle is inspired by the overwhelming beauty of nature to the mundane moments that spark life’s strongest memories. With the album title Blu Wav meant to be a literal mash-up of “bluegrass” and “new wave”, the new collection has a distinct feel, a uniform vibe, and a somewhat unexpected sound.

It was conceived as Grandaddy maestro Jason Lytle was driving through the Nevada desert, and Patti Page’s “Tennessee Waltz” came across the classic country station on the radio. He was immediately intrigued by the possibilities of what it might sound like to keep the slow sway and sweet, simple lyrics of the bluegrass waltz while adding layers of dense synthesizers and the electronics of new wave. It incorporates the lo-fi lushness and sometimes-psychedelic orchestration Grandaddy is known for with Lytle’s first foray into true country. Seven of its 13 songs are waltzes, and as Lytle notes, “there’s an inordinate amount of pedal steel.

Our ears already enjoyed 2 tracks. Two relaxing reveries, two
observative musings, carried by Lytle‘s near-whispering vocals.

GRANDADDY Share Another Bittersweet Reverie From Their Upcoming Album With ‘CABIN IN MY MIND’

Musings for the laziest day of the week

3 December 2023

Californian daydreamers GRANDADDY, now centred more than ever around,
singer-songwriter Jason Lytle announced the birth of a new LP, their 6th, a few
weeks ago. It’s named BLU WAV and will come our way on 16 February 2024.
More info here.

Following lead single Watercooler we can enjoy a second new one.
Cabin In My Mind is a characteristic Grandaddy reverie with Lytle‘s
near-whispering vocals over a bittersweet and maudlin melody.

Lytle: “A while back, I was traveling with a friend, doing some shows and just riffing,
and he came up with this phrase. It made so much sense to me and had so many things
just within the title itself: shutting off and just, like, going inward. It’s fun to imagine literally
a cabin inside your mind. “I’m out of here, see ya, guys,” and you walk in the front door, shut
the door and disappear for a while. It was perfect like an old country song where the title says everything. I remembered the phrase, and it was easy for me to pick it up and just make it work.”

Soulful Sunday With Daydreamers GRANDADDY And Their New Sweet Musing ‘WATERCOOLER’

29 October 2023

Californian melancholia rockers GRANDADDY, now centred more
than ever around singer-songwriter Jason Lytle announced a new LP,
their sixth. It’s named BLU WAV a will appear on 16 February 2024.
More info here.

The first single is named WATERCOOLER

LYTLE: “Most of my relationships have involved girls who worked in office settings.
This song is about the end of one, or perhaps a few, of those relationships. Listeners
will also notice the pedal steel on this track and eventually on many others from the forthcoming new album. It’s a first for Grandaddy, and I couldn’t be more thrilled
about this fact.”

First thing. I never heard a song about a watercooler.
Second thing. Lytle still writes sweet musings and his
soft voice is still instrumental for those musings.
