50 Years Of American ‘PUNK’ Magazine

PUNK – First issue, January 1976 – Lou Reed cartoon by John Holmstrom

This year marks the 50th anniversary of punk music, which had a similar
ear-shattering and culture changing impact as rock ‘n’ roll ignited in the 50s.

Countless new DIY punk-zines popped up to follow the new startling scene from
the first row. One of them was an American one, simply named PUNK. Its first edition
came out in January 1976, yep 50 years ago with a cartoon of old punk Lou Reed on
the cover.

This past weekend an 50-year-anniversay exhibition of the magazine curated by
its cartoonist/co-founder John Holmstrom and Ki Smith openend in Hudson, NY.

1976, that’s a damn half century.

Image Of The Day – THE BETHS In CHINA

New Zealand‘s popular indie guitar-pop band THE BETHS released their
lauded 4th LP Straight Line Was A Lie last year in August, and they are
still flying around the world to promote it.

Soon they land in China for the first time for 2 gigs.

I have no clue what all those little images on the announcement
poster below stand for, but it’s a cool poster anyways.

Last year, on American TV Show Jimmy Kimmel Live .

Image Of The Day – British Pop-Punk Metal Wackos UNPEOPLE

UNPEOPLE are a London-based 4-piece outfit who run
a lot of amok with their pop-punk metal since 2023.

I never heard them before, then I saw their comic faces on the cover
of the new KerrangI edition, and they just make me laugh and remember
that rock needs comical people like them too. Hence image of the day.

Image Of The Day – PEACHES Goes HELLRAISER

Queer shedevil PEACHES (born Merrill Nisker 59 years ago in Canada)
scored a big electroclash stomper in 2002 with Fuck The Pain Away.

Now she reworked the song for a new video game: Hellraiser Revival
based on author/filmaker Clive Barker‘s books/movies Hellraiser.

Watch the video below.

Peaches: “With this rework of the track, it frames my song in a darker,
more twisted world. ‘Fuck the Pain Away’ is ever-expanding and now has
new meaning in the Hellraiser universe. I’m in!”

Underaged individuals can watch the Nazi’s monstrous actions on YT without
restriction whatsoever, but if a video is sexually tinted, all hell breaks loose.
