Reggae Legend HORACE ANDY And Dub Bass Wizard JAH WOBBLE Have A Ride On Their ‘HORSE WITH NO NAME’

Daily noise that works faster than a stream of caffeine

30 September 2024

Jamaican reggae legend HORACE ANDY (aged 73) who released countless albums and worked together with several modern day artists has teamed up now with P.i.L‘s former dub bass wizard Jah Wobble for an album of covers, named Timeless Roots.

One of the songs is Andy/Wobble‘s take on American/English
folk pop/rock band America‘s 1971 hit HORSE WITH NO NAME.

Wake up people,
get on your horse
and gallop to
the West.

JAH WOBBLE – Metal Bass-Loaded Box Extravaganza In BELGIUM

6 August 2024

JAH WOBBLE‘s (born John Joseph Wardle, 66 years ago in London) supreme
dub bass work on Public Image‘s groundbreaking, second LP Metal Box
from 1979, was his start for an everlasting solo career.

He released multiple solo albums and a series of collaborative ones.

Last Monday he played at Lokerse Feesten in Belgium. The show was billed
as ‘Jah Wobble’s Metal Box.” Three years ago he recorded/released his own,
imaginative version of that brilliant album. Superb stuff. Stream it below.

He gave us the whole ‘Metal Box: Rebuilt In Dub‘. We got one long jungly jam, with some
dry Wobble humor in between. The mind-bending, spellbinding vibes created a trance-like experience and went, now and then, in all directions (made me think of Zappa‘s wayward live performances you can watch on YouTube). Trippy extravaganza all the way.

Jah is a groove expert, an experimental musician at heart. I’m very familiar with his PIL work, and some of his solo work but seeing the man in action, backed by a fantastic band, for the first time was an astonishing revelation.

And some more Metal Box in the UK this Fall.

Deep Space, Temple Of Sound
and the Nippon Dub Ensemble, plus collaborations with
singers Julie Campbell and Yulduz Usmanova among others.

Jah Wobble: ““All you’ve got to do is put a bass in my hand and an iPad and I’m away.
I get the iPad out and I start a track and within ten minutes it’s taken me. Every track you
work on is very different. Making music really captures me. ”

Turn Up The Volume: “Sorry, can’t speak now. I’m still somewhere
in space with this extended dub extravaganza on my headphones.”

JAH WOBBLE Featuring MARK STEWART And Friends Tackle British Conservative Party With Critical Banger ‘A VERY BRITISH COUP’…

Daily fuel to load your sonic batteries…

20 February 2020

When legendary post-punk misfits Jah Wobble, Mark Stewart, Keith Levene and Richard Dudanski come together you know there’s electricity in the air. Critical electricity. Hectic electricity. Confrontational electricity and barbed songs with a razor-sharp message.

With ‘A VERY BRITISH COUP‘ this unique collaboration tackles the British Conservative hypocrites and their misleading and demagogic campaign with which they pushed voters to leave the European Union.

Musically the track is an electrifying banger driven by Jah Wobble‘s striking bass
grooves and Dudanski‘s repetitive solid drum beat, intensified with Levene‘s metallic
guitar resonance and Stewart’s nightmarish and reproachful voice navigating all over it. The final result is a kick-ass uppercut with an angry middle finger for all those lying politicians who messed-up really badly.

Here’s the funky coup…

Who’s who?
Jah Wobble: original PiL bassist, mastermind of Invaders Of The Heart,
countless collaborations and initiator of this project
Mark Stewart: co-founder of Bristol’s punk-funk innovators The Pop Group,
Godfather of the Maffia and tons of collaborations
Keith Levene
: original PiL guitarist and several solo projects
Richard Dudanski: drummer, best known as a former member of PiL,
but played with several other bands too
Martin Youth Glover: : Produced the song, best known as
a member of Killing Joke but also a successful producer
The late great Andrew Weatherall and Nina Walsh
added loops to the proceedings

A limited edition four-song EP (including this track)
on CD is for sale now at Amazon.

I guess this novel by Chris Mullin
was an inspiration for this song.
