Bloc Party Orchestrator KELE Announces New Solo LP And Shares Bouncy Track ‘IT WASN’T MEANT TO BE’

New striking strokes

29 September 2024

Bloc Party‘s orchestrator KELE OKEREKE jumps from left
to right, from recording with his band to working on solo
projects.

Last year he released with BC a 4-track EP named The High Life
followed last June by a stand-alone single, called Flirting Again.

Last month he dropped a new funky solo single, titled Hometown Edge and here’s another fresh one. IT WASN’T MEANT TO BE is a bouncy, repetitive electro loop with
Kele articulating all over it. Listen below.

Kele: “Once the dust has settled, there might be the intention to be a grown up and achieve closure with the other party. But sometimes, even with the best will in the world, you can’t get past the fact that this person, who you once loved, has hurt you. It’s a song about anger concealed in pleasantries.”

He also confirmed that both songs will be on his new, 7th solo longplayer,
baptized The Singing Winds Pt. 3. It comes out next year, on January 17th.

TRUE LOVE KNOWS NO DEATH, one of the singles, is that kind of
tantalizing tunes that makes your day, mine in any case. It’s a movin’
and groovin’ thrill activating your lazy limbs in the morning.

BLOC PARTY Mastermind KELE OKEREKE Reveals ‘SMALLTOWN BOY’ Cover

27 March 2021

As Bloc Party enjoys a very long holiday (last album Hymns came
out 5 years ago) mastermind KELE OKEREKE goes his own way again…
for the fifth time. His new album The Waves Pt. 1 lands on May 28th.
Order info here.

Okereke: “I still had the desire to create… I knew I had to fill in the space of
this record entirely by myself, which was daunting but also very liberating.
This album is literally the sound of me.”

Last month he shared a trippy instrumental off the album, called
The Heart Of The Wave and here’s another taster. Actually a cover
of Bronski Beat‘s massive 1984 hit Smalltown Boy.

Okereke‘s slowed the song down, minimized the sonic orchestration,
just a guitar and synth echoes, and gives it a heartbroken touch with
his affective falsetto voice. Wonderful!
