ADAM ANT, real name Stuart Leslie Goddard, was born on 3 November 1954 in London.
Happy 69 to the legendary singer/songwriter who released 3 albums with his Ants and
6 solo longplayers. With the Ants he scored 3 top No 1 hit singles in the UK, including the title track of his 1981 Prince Charming LP (#2 in the UK). He has also worked as an actor, appearing in many films and television episodes.
Belgian singer-songwriter JACQUES BREL born Jacques Romain Georges Brel
in Schaarbeek, Brussels passed away 45 years ago, on 9 October 1978,
due to cancer. He was only 49.
He was known far and away. Multiple big-name artists such as Marc Almond, Alex Harvey, David Bowie, Dusty Springfield, Ray Charles,
Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone, The Kingston Trio and Gavin Friday covered
songs of him.
Brel sold over 25 million records worldwide, including
over 12 million albums and singles in France and Belgium.
Californian rock legend Steven Haworth Miller was
born on 5 October 1943 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, U.S.
Happy 80.
He started his fantastic career way back in 1967. With his band
he fabricated 19 studio LPs with Let Your Hair Down as the most
recent one (2011).
His most famous and masterly longplayer is, unquestionably, Fly Like An Eagle. It was the band’s 9th LP, released in 1976.
A critical and commercial success. #3 in the US, #11 in the UK
and #4 in Canada.
And it’s key single Rock ‘N’ Me is
a timeless classic played here live
in Chicago in 2009. Bang-on.

ELLIOTT SMITH, was born Steven Paul Smith on August 6 in Ohama, Nebraska.
He would have celebrated his 54th birthday today. His very sensitive, intimate
songs and his peculiar voice gained him lost of fans and press accolades. But he
shunned the attention. He was a loner. He hated the rock star circus.
He recorded/released 5 LPs between 1994 and 2000.
On 21 October 2003, at the age of 34, he died of two self-inflicted stab wounds to
the chest after a severe argument with his Jennifer Chiba. She pulled the knife out
and called 9-1-1. Smith A possible suicide note, written on a sticky note, read: “I’m
so sorry—love, Elliott. God forgive me.”. R.I.P.
RANDY MEISNER (born Randall Herman Meisner on 8 March 1946), the co-founder, bassist/vocalist/co-songwriter of country rock icons the EAGLES passed away 3 days
ago, on 26 July following complications with a lung disease. He was 77.
Meisner co-formed the band in 1971, but already left in September 1977 citing exhaustion. The toll for becoming one of the greatest rock acts in the world, meaning almost 24/7 touring, in a short time was to heavy. He started his solo career a year
later.
He had a magnific voice, but rarely sang on Eagles songs.
Here’s an exception. He did the lead-vocals on one of the group’s
biggest hitsTake It To The Limit which he co-wrote (from their 1975
million-seller LP One Of These Nights).
Happy 80 to one of the greatest frontmen/songwriters
of one of the greatest rock and roll bands in music history.
For the occasion, English writer/journalist Philip Norman
wrote a biography. It was released last month.
“Jagger‘s career has spanned over six decades, and he has been widely described as
one of the most popular and influential frontmen in the history of rock music. His distinctive voice and energetic live performances, along with Richards’ guitar style, have been the Rolling Stones‘ trademark throughout the band’s career. Jagger gained notoriety for his romantic involvements and illicit drug use, and has often been portrayed as a countercultural figure.”
“Norman describes in this book the fascinating life story of Mick Jagger. Norman tells how
Mick grew up in a sleepy suburb of London. We see how he is introduced to the blues, and
how the young, shy Mick accidentally bumps into his old school friend Keith Richards in London. Norman talks about Mick‘s friendship and rivalry with Keith, his countless relationships with the most beautiful women, his phenomenal business talent and his boundless love for music. Mick Jagger is therefore more than a biography, it is the compelling story of half a century of pop history.”
Former Beatle and grand pop singer/songwriter/composer PAUL McCARTNEY is 81 today. He was born in Liverpool
on 18 June 1942.
Without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most influential artists ever with
an immense and astounding canon. With all what Sir Macca realized musically,
in the first place with the immortal fab four The Beatles, afterward with Wings
and his numerous solo albums he achieved, rightly so, a Godlike genius status.
Susan Janet Ballion, best known of course as SIOUXSIE SIOUX
the voice and face of 70s punk icons The Banshees was born on
27 May 1957 in London.
Happy 66 to the Goth queen of punk. One of the most
charismatic and drop-dead gorgeous rock stars ever.
What? 66?
With The Banshees she recorded/released 11 studio albums.
With her husband Budgie, she made two LPs under the moniker
of The Creatures. And in 2007 she released her only criminally
underrated, solo longplayer Mantaray.
