Waking Up With… LOU BARLOW And His New COMPANY

Works faster than caffeine

23 May 2022

Ohio-born slacker rocker LOU BARLOW always was a busy bee and still is.

We know him from keeping J Mascis company with Dinosaur Jr., orchestrating
his own bands Sebadoh and The Folk Implosion, and going solo for the first time
last year with his Reason To Live album.

And why not start another project to avoid laziness? Barlow just presented
new hobby act LOU BARLOW AND COMPANY. His new mates/company
are Massachusetts indie rock trio Eat Fire Spring

I have no idea how they met but what I do know is that their first two songs
Only Fading and Sacrifice have Barlow’s signature all over it. And that’s good
enough for my aural pleasure.

Don’t implode, folks, Lou will entertain us this morning…

Happy 55 To LOU BARLOW – Let’s Celebrate With Flaming Ripper ‘FLAME’ By SEBADOH

17 July 2021

Louis Knox Barlow, better known as Lou Barlow, a slacker rock
veteran (with Dinosaur Jr, Sebadoh, several collaborations, and
now solo) was born on July 17, 1966 in Ohio. Happy 55, mate!

To celebrate his birthday, let’s have one of his
best strokes ever (in my book) with Sebadoh

Single: Flame

B-sideSweet Surrender (a John Denver
cover, I repeat a John Denver cover)

Released: 10 January 1999
Album: The Sebadoh – the band’s 7th LP

Last year Sebadoh reunited (Lou Barlow in the middle)
and released comeback album Act Surprised.

LOU BARLOW Finally Home – New LP In May And Hear Lead-Single ‘OVER YOU’

New sonic impulses…

Lou Barlow was/is very productive these past years.

A new Sebadoh
album Act Surprised (2019), six years after the previous LP.
And recently he returned to Dinosaur Jr., the band he co-founded
in 1984. Their new LP Sweep It Into Space sees the day of light
on 23rd April.

But his songwriting hunger isn’t satisfied yet.
A solo album called Reason To Live lands on 28 May.
Pre-order info here.

“This album is me really opening up, and the album follows that through
its many different themes. Some of my other work could be almost claustrophobic
in its insistence on being all tied together but there’s space for people to live inside
these songs. People have this vision of me as this heartbroken, depressed guy, but
this record feels so true to who I am, to this rich life I now have full of people I love.
The songs culminated over the last five years to show that music has returned to its
central comforting role in my life. Now I’m home.”
says Barlow.

Lead-single OVER YOU is a short ode to the golden state California
were he lived for 17 years, including 6 years with his beloved wife.

A sweet nostalgic daydream.
