MARK LANEGAN And Electro Trio IYEARA Team Up For Darkwave Remix…

New sonic impulses…

MARK LANEGAN, one of the hardest working men in rock and one of the most haunting voices in this universe is always looking for new challenges and collaborations. This time he teams up with British electro trio IYEARA, not only to remix just one of his songs. No, Lanegan and the Brits locked themselves in a studio for a remix of the whole of his 2019 longplayer Somebody’s Knocking. The record will be out on 21 August.

Here’s taster PLAYING NERO. The slow-moving shadowy song turns into an even
darker meditation than the original as if the lights went out in the studio while remixing.

It fits Lanegan‘s bedimmed musing like an electro glove. Emotive, poignant, spacey, and chilling. Seems like these like-minded musicians will impress us with a special piece of
dark waves when the LP comes out.

MARK LANEGAN And COLD CAVE Cover JOY DIVISION

To honor IAN CURTIS, the late iconic and troubled frontman of Manchester’s legends
JOY DIVISION, who took his own life 40 years ago, on 18 May 1980, Los Angeles’ post-
punk act COLD CAVE teamed up with the omnipresent MARK LANEGAN. As renowned connoisseurs of dark Goth-like nightmares themselves, this combo is just perfect for a Curtis tribute.

They picked ISOLATION to cover. Probably the most catchy Joy Division track, but also
a bleak self-reflection of low esteem by the band’s regretted protagonist. I’m pretty sure their choice refers also to the surreal lockdown days we all experience. The Cold Cave / Lanegan rendition is a respectful homage with an equally buzzing drive – rousing bass and glimmering synths – and heavyhearted vocals.

Mother I tried please believe me,
I’m doing the best that I can.
I’m ashamed of the things I’ve been put through,
I’m ashamed of the person I am.

Haunting And Hypnotic – Here’s MARK LANEGAN With New Heavy-Hearted Single ‘SKELETON KEY’…

MARK LANEGAN, former Screaming Trees frontman and monumental voice has a new
solo album ready called STRAIGHT SONGS OF SORROW. Here’s the brilliant lead single ‘SKELETON KEY’. An extended, haunting ballad with an instant hypnotic effect. It’s a self-blaming, melancholic and heavy-hearted reflection. “Ugly, I’m so very ugly inside and out, there’ no denying, why should you love me?”. Even after all these years when I hear Lanegan’s vox I get goosebumps. Strangely enough, the darkness he creates feels comfortable and inspiring. Another stunning achievement by the genuine troubadour.

Lanegan will also issue his memoir called

Happy 55 To Original Voice And Compelling Songwriter MARK LANEGAN…

25 November 2019

MARK LANEGAN was born in Ellensburg, Washington, 25 November 1964. Happy 55 to an original voice and a most compelling songwriter. His musical career began as vocalist with grunge rockers Screaming Trees in 1985. When the band called it a day Lanegan followed his own successful path with countless collaborations with various other artists and with his, by now impressive canon of 11 solo records. His latest longplayer, one of his best to my ears, Somebody’s Knocking appeared last month.

To celebrate this authentic rock troubadour’s
birthday I picked these three big moments…

– HALO OF ASHES –
(Live Screamming Trees performance on British TV show 1996)

– WEDDING DRESS –

(Live version / from his 2004 ‘Bubblegum’ LP)

– NIGHT FLIGHT TO KABUL –
(From his new 2019 LP Somebody’s Knocking)

TODAY’S YESTERDAY ALBUM – ‘Dust’ – Final SCREAMING TREES Album…

Remarkable albums from the past…

‘Dust’ by SCREAMING TREES
Released: 25 June 1996
Seventh and final LP

ALL MUSIC wrote: “In many ways, Screaming Trees missed their opportunity. They released Sweet Oblivion just as grunge began to capture national attention and they
didn’t tour the album extensively, which meant nearly all of their fellow Seattle bands
became superstars while they stood to the side. After four years, they returned with Dust,
their third major-label album, and by that point, the band’s sound was too idiosyncratic
for alternative radio. Which is unfortunate, because ‘Dust’ is the band’s strongest album.
The band sound tighter than they ever have and their melodies and hooks are stronger,
more memorable, making ‘Dust’ their most consistently impressive record.”

Score: 4/5 – Full review here

TURN UP THE VOLUME says: their best effort and the bridge to the start of adventurous and terrific paths for great frontman/vox Mark Mark Lanegan.’
