NEIL YOUNG + CRAZY HORSE Released Memorable LP ‘RAGGED GLORY’ 35 Years Ago Today

Significant longplayers from yesteryear

10 September 2025

NEIL YOUNG and his loyal amigos CRAZY HORSE released memorable
CD RAGGED GLORY on 10 September 1990, today 35 years ago. Young‘s
20th album.

Young:I purposely wanted to play long instrumentals because I don’t hear any jamming
on any other records. There’s nothing spontaneous going on on records these days, except in blues and funkier music. Rock & roll used to have all that. People aren’t reaching out in the instrumental passages and spontaneously letting them last as long as they can. I love to do that, but I can only really do it well with one band.

AllMusic said: “The album’s dominant sound was made by Young’s noisy guitar, which bordered on and sometimes slipped over into distortion, while Crazy Horse kept up the songs’ bright tempos. Despite the volume, the tunes were catchy, with strong melodies and good choruses, and they were given over to love, humor, and warm reminiscence.”

NEIL YOUNG + CRAZY HORSE – Magic Nostalgia With New Collection Of Old Recordings Titled ‘EARLY DAZE’ Out Now

28 June 2024

Over the years NEIL YOUNG spent a lot of time in his attic (must be twice as big as
his huge farm), looking for lost stuff. It resulted in the release of several live albums,
solo or with his long-time Crazy Horse buddies.

Today the living legend is back with another lost one, named EARLY DAZE.

This new collection includes the earliest recordings – with Crazy Horse and contributions
by late guitarist Danny Whitten – of 10 original versions that have not been released before, along with the 7-inch mono mix of Cinnamon Girl that was released in 1970 that includes a guitar outro that wasn’t on the original LP version.

Pure nostalgia all around.
Magic nostalgia.
High-quality too.

Watch NEIL YOUNG And CRAZY HORSE Play ‘CORTEZ THE KILLER’ (Adding A Missed Verse) In SAN DIEGO Last Night

25 April 2024

Last night (April 24), living legend NEIL YOUNG and his long-time compadres
CRAZY HORSE started their Love Earth Tour with a concert at San Diego’s
Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre.

The Crazy Horse line-up included guitarist Micah Nelson, stepping in for Nils
Lofgren
who is currently on tour with Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band.

They opened the show with a 15-minute rendition of CORTEZ THE KILLER from
their 1976 album Zuma. It allegedly featured a missing verse that was cut from
the original recording, and recently rediscovered by Young.

I’m a huge Young fan, but I have no clue what verse he’s talking/signing about.
Do you? Anyway here’s last night’s performance thanks to fan Todd Norris.

Back To Their Country Rock Roots – NEIL YOUNG AND CRAZY HORSE With New Album ‘BARN’

12 December 2021

Band: NEIL YOUNG AND CRAZY HORSE
Album: BARN

Released: 10 December 2021
More info: here

Young: “We are so happy to be back in the barn. A barn built to replicate
the 1850s barn that had collapsed in exactly the same place, high in the
mountains of Colorado.”

NME says: Rugged and rural beauty, with a sense of hope There’s
a cracked and weary charm to the rock’n’roll veteran’s latest outing,
an album that deftly navigates the personal and political.”
Full review here. Score 4/5.

TURN UP THE VOLUME: Barn sounds like a 70s lost album. Solid country
rock as we know it, but too familiar. After 40 albums there’s a big chance
you will repeat yourself sometimes, this is what happens here too and it
already happened before with Young & Crazy Horse. As much as I am
a devoted Young fan, this is just an okay LP.

NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE – One Of Their Most Notorious Live Albums ‘WELD’ Released 30 Years Ago

Back in time

21 October 2021

Band: NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE

Anniversary album: WELD

A live album – 2CDs – containing recordings from the Ragged Glory tour.
Initially released as a limited-edition 3 CD set entitled Arc-Weld, with the
Arc part a single CD with just a collage of guitar noise and feedback.

Released: 22 October 1991

AllMusic said: “Where Young’s previous double live album, Live Rust, which bore some similarities to this one, was a career retrospective including some acoustic numbers, Weld
was all electric rock with Crazy Horse. The one previously unreleased song was a Gulf War
era cover of Bob Dylan’s “Blowin’ in the Wind,” complete with gunshots and exploding bombs.
In retrospect, Weld seems like an excellent expression of one part of Young’s musical persona, putting some of his best hard rock material onto one album.”

Full review: here. Score: 4.5/5.

Turn Up The Volume: The number of Neil Young live albums is huge by now, and they’re still coming frequently from the living legend’s inexhaustible Archives, but Weld is one of the best, a mammoth monument to frame.

Live Album – NEIL YOUNG And His CRAZY HORSE Return To GREENDALE

6 November 2020

Back in 2003 NEIL YOUNG and his long-time orchestra CRAZY HORSE released
a rock opera album called GREENDALE. The story of the Green family in a fictional California seaside town with songs about corruption, environmentalism and mass
media consolidation. Although the critics were divided, for Rolling Stone Magazine
it was one of the best LPs of that year.

Relive the studio album…

.
A concert film of the Greendale tour premiered in San Francisco
and via the Movietone section of Neil Young’s Archives website
on 25th September. And today the audio longplayer is out.

OUT TODAY! New LP By NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE – Here’s ‘COLORADO’…

Just released!…

25 October 2019

Artist: Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Album: Colorado – first collaboration with Crazy Horse since 2012 LP Psychedelic Pill
and first time since 1971 (!) that legendary guitarist Nils Lofgren worked with Young again
Sound: Vintage melancholia blues à la Neil Young. Profound, emotional and heart & soul-touching. At times pitch black because of the very troubled times we live in, at times as romantic as he ever was now that he’s married to his third wife, actor Daryl Hannah
NME verdict: 4/5 – review here

40 Years Ago NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE Released Live Album ‘RUST NEVER SLEEPS’…

History

22 June 2019

neil.jpg

Today 40 years ago, on 22 June 1979, eternal rocker in the free world NEIL YOUNG
and CRAZY HORSE released live album titled RUST NEVER SLEEPS. Most of the songs were recorded at show at San Francisco’s Boarding House and some cuts were registered elsewhere during the band’s late 1978 tour. Overdubs were done later in studios. Besides a few exceptions audience noise was removed as much as possible from the LP. It peaked
at #8 on the US chart and reached #13 in the UK.

Paul Nelson of Rolling Stone Magazine wrote at the time: For anyone still passionately in love with rock & roll, Neil Young has made a record that defines the territory. Defines it, expands it, explodes it. Burns it to the ground. ‘Rust Never Sleeps’ tells me more about my life, my country and rock & roll than any music I’ve heard in years. Like a newfound friend or lover pledging honesty and eager to share whatever might be important, it’s both a sampler and a synopsis — of everything: the rocks and the trees, and the shadows between the rocks and the trees.
