NEIL YOUNG + CRAZY HORSE – Magic Nostalgia With New Collection Of Old Recordings Titled ‘EARLY DAZE’ Out Now

28 June 2024

Over the years NEIL YOUNG spent a lot of time in his attic (must be twice as big as
his huge farm), looking for lost stuff. It resulted in the release of several live albums,
solo or with his long-time Crazy Horse buddies.

Today the living legend is back with another lost one, named EARLY DAZE.

This new collection includes the earliest recordings – with Crazy Horse and contributions
by late guitarist Danny Whitten – of 10 original versions that have not been released before, along with the 7-inch mono mix of Cinnamon Girl that was released in 1970 that includes a guitar outro that wasn’t on the original LP version.

Pure nostalgia all around.
Magic nostalgia.
High-quality too.

French-Spanish Legend MANU CHAO Back With New Album In September – Hear Two Hip-Shaking Tracks Here

27 June 2024

French-Spanish singer-songwriter-guitarist and political activist MANU CHAO skyrocketed to fame with his 1998 debut longplayer Clandestino. He also made succesful waves with two other projects/bands, Manu Negra and Radio Bemba Sound System.

It’s been 7 years since the now 63-year-old, multilingual
artist had his most recent album out with La Radiolina.

But about a month ago he shared a brand-new
song, called Vita Tu with the world.

And just now he confirmed the rumours of a new LP, baptized VIVA TU (yep, it was
the title track we got a month ago). It comes out on September 20. More info here.

Along with the announcement comes a 2nd new piece, we can shake are hips smoothly
to (I’ll have a cocktail at the same time). São Paulo Motoboy is a song that celebrates the countless motorcycle couriers in Brazil‘s famous city of millions.

MC: “São Paulo is a breathing beast. And the couriers
are the blood running through its veins, keeping it alive.

Workaholic THURSTON MOORE Has 5th Solo LP In 7 Years Out In September – Hear New single ‘SANS LIMITES’

22 June 2024

New album artwork

Former Sonic Youth force THURSTON MOORE
has his 5th solo LP in 7 years ready for release.

At the age of 66 he doesn’t slow down whatsoever. Over the past months
he released 3 singles, but just now he announced that they’ll be on a new LP,
named FLOW CRITICAL LUCIDITY . It’ll show up on September 20.

More info here.

Along with the news comes another new piece, titled
SANS LIMITES, featuring Stereolab’s Lætitia Sadier.

Moore in a statement via Clash magazine: “Sans Limites” begins with a cyclic
guitar & piano figure which expands further and further with each revolution before
settling into a two-chord measure introducing lyrics intoning not only about eradicating
any limitations towards enlightenment, but going beyond limitations. The idea that
a soldier can fight the good fight. A warrior against war.

JOHN GRANT Has His 7th Album ‘THE ART OF THE LIE’ Out – Lots Of Swing Moods

20 June 2024

Press

Michigan‘s songsmith JOHN GRANT was quite active after the release of his 2021
solo LP Boy From Michigan. Last year he recorded an album with his band Creep
Show
, an EP with Midlake, and did a Nick Drake cover for a tribute album.

Now he returns on his own again, with his 7th album, titled THE ART OF THE LIE.

Press-info: The Art Of The Lie is Grant’s most opulent, cinematic, luxurious album
yet and confirms Grant’s status as a modern electronic auteur. Grant likens the musical
flavours of The Art of the Lie to the sumptuous Vangelis soundtrack for Bladerunner or
the Carpenters if John Carpenter were also a member.

While undeniably a John Grant record, nestling humour into tragedy, bleeding anger into compassion, there is a musical ambition and nerve to ‘The Art of the Lie’ which offsets its
most political and personal moments.”

TUTV: Grant still has to come fully to terms with his homosexuality in relation with his parents, tormented by his Catholic upbringing causing mood swings, both lyrically and sonically. A record for lonely hearts and confused souls. Human, honest and genuine.

82-Year Old Musical Luminary JOHN CALE Still Amazes – New Album ‘POPtical Illusion’ Is Another Splendid Work

17 June 2024

82-year-old VU legend JOHN CALE is one of those artists who’ll never stop
making music until his final breath. Back in January 2023 he released one
of the finest records of that year with Mercy. It featured invitees such as
Animal Collective, Weyes Blood, Sylvan Esso, Laurel Halo, and, yes, British
misfits Fat White Family.

Only 18 months later Cale has bagged another album. He named it
POPtical Illusion and he will share it with world on June 14. The songs
were written around the time he worked on Mercy.

Press info: “Despite the album’s playful title, Cale’s second album in just over
a year still contains the same feelings of fierce and inquisitive rage that were
present in 2023 album MERCY. He remains angry, still incensed by the willful
destruction that unchecked capitalists and unrepentant conmen have hoisted
upon the wonders of this world and the goodness of its people.

But this is not at all MERCY II, or some collection of castoffs, as throughout his career of more than six decades, Cale has never been much for repetition. His vanguard-shaping enthusiasms have shifted among ecstatic classicism and unbound rock, classic songcraft and electronic reimagination with proud restlessness.”

Press photo

TUTV: This is the Welshman‘s 18th solo LP, only 18 months after the previous one, named Mercy. Cale is still facing his demons as he did on Mercy but here it sounds as if he knows how to beat them.

The layered-synths atmosphere and the rich orchestrations resonate more sanguine here and there, like on Davies And Wales, How We See The Light , and All To Good , songs you can hum along. and hypnotizing single Shark-Shark you can move and groove to.

But the overall tone still is pensive and meditative, no traditional rock ‘n’ roll for Cale,
with past/present reflections like on Calling You Out, Edge Of Reason, Setting Fires and the closing piano ballad There Will Be No River. At 82 his voice hasn’t aged whatsoever, still instrumental and a indispensable factor in his arrestingly crafted work. Remarkable.

MARK OLIVER EVERETT Takes It Easy On 15th Album ‘EELS TIME!’

10 June 2024

Fab weirdo Mark Oliver Everett and EELS
have their 15th LP, named EELS TIME! out.

Uncut (British music magazine: “Throughout his three-decade career, E has brought
a hushed beauty to the act of staring into the abyss, and his use of space on EELS TIME!
(all caps for added irony) makes this lonely guy seem that much more lost in space.”

TUTV: Sounds like Everett was all by himself in the studio to record this album with
its 12 tenebrific songs. Despite the exclamation mark in the LP’s title and E’s kicking
image on the cover, the overall sonic atmosphere is downcast and laid-back.

Moony lullabies, meditative musings, shadowy melodies, and a couple of half-lively tunes is what we get. Everett isn’t the happiest boy on the block, as we know him, and he reminds us of it for 41 mellow minutes. Sombre reveries for lonely nights.

New ALAN VEGA Album From His Archives Lands May 31 – Hear Rad Tracks ‘MERCY’ And ‘CYNADE SOUL’

24 May 2024

Another previously unreleased album, following the splendid 2021 Mutator LP,
by the late great ALAN VEGA (1938-2016) raises from his archives on May 31,
named INSURRECTION.

11 songs showcase the unparalleled vision and uncompromising
force from one of the most influential artists of all time.

Liz Lamere (Vega’s widow and collaborator): “Insurrection was created in the time
period around 1997/98, after Mutator and prior to Vega’s 1999 release of 2007 and
captures the intense energy of NYC in the 90s rife with crime, killing, hate, fascism,
racism, and moral bankruptcy. You can hear the tortured souls floating through this
album.”

Jared Artaud (fellow Vega collaborator): “Insurrection hits hard and shows the power
and intensity of Alan Vega’s visionary solo work. It feels like he was trying to break new
ground. There’s always a kind of magic that goes into working on Vega’s music. I feel like
he was tapped into some other dimension. One hand in the gutter and one hand in
the stars.”

Ahead of the release come we got these two tasters.

Thanks to Whitechapel Ghost Video, we could enjoy one of the two nights they

but seeing the living legend still rockin’ in the free world at the age of 78 is quite impressive.
