Every day of this summer we go back to the same summer day somewhere in history

On 17 August 1991, today 35 years ago, the iconic video for NIRVANA
ironclad breakthrough single Smells Like Teen Spirit was shot at GMT
Studios in Culver City, CA.
Costing less than $50,000 (a bargain, when it came to
music videos at the time), the clip featured many fans.
“When I was 11 I saw Kurt Cobain singing ‘Heartshaped Box’ on MTV and it really
stopped me dead in my tracks. I thought he was the most beautiful person I had
ever seen. Even at a young age I really related to his sadness.”

music weekly from 1926-2000)
Actress COURTNEY COX (aged 61 now) was one of the main characters
in FRIENDS, one of the most famous American comedy sitcoms ever.
Cox playedMonica Geller, the sister of Ross (David Schwimmer)
and husband of Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry).
We’re not here to talk about Friends but about the fact that Cox:
1/ plays drums as a hobby, 2/ that she’s a Nirvana fan, and
3/ that she drums to their biggest hit, Smells Like Teen Spirit.
NIRVANA released their explosive single SLIVER on 7-inch vinyl, in the US
on 1 September 1990, today 35 years ago. It was written by Kurt Cobain
and bassist Krist Novoselic.
In 1992, it was featured, next to B-sides and demos,
on a compilation album, named Insecticide.
When Mom and Dad went to a show
They dropped me off at grandpa Joe’s
I kicked and screamed; said, “Please, don’t go!”
Grandma, take me home! Grandma, take me home!
Grandma, take me home! Grandma, take me home!
Had to eat my dinner there
Mashed potatoes and stuff like that
I couldn’t chew my meat too good
Grandma, take me home! Grandma, take me home!
Grandma, take me home! Grandma, take me home!
She said, “Why don’t you stop your crying?
Go outside and ride your bike”
That’s what I did, I killed my toe!
Grandma, take me home! Grandma, take me home!
Grandma, take me home! Grandma, take me home!
Well, after dinner I had ice cream
I fell asleep and watched TV
I woke up in my mother’s arms!
Grandma, take me home! Grandma, take me home!
Grandma, take me home! Grandma, take me home!
The final edition of legendary British record chart TV programme TOP OF THE POPS
was recorded at BBC Television Centre in London on 26 July 2006, today 29 years ago.
It was broadcasted on July 30th.
Just under 200 members of the public were in the audience for the show. Former classic performances from the Spice Girls, Wham!, Madonna, Beyoncé and Robbie Williams featured in the show alongside The Rolling Stones who were the very first band to appear on Top of the Pops on New Year’s Day in 1964.
Legendary American late-night live sketch comedy, variety and music
show Saturday Night Life celebrates its 50th season on the telly.
Last night they broadcasted a nearly three-and-a-half-hour live concert with
a glamorous cast of celebs such as Lady Gaga, Eddie Vedder, Miley Cyrus, David
Byrne, Backstreet Boys, Devo and many more, with most of them performing a
cover of classic hits from the past 50 years.
Also on the show were original Nirvana heroes Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic
who played with fabulous rapper Post Malone (who did a dumbfounded job)
behind the mic, the band’s immortal classic Smells Like Teen Spirit (more
than 2 billion streams on Spotify).
