Who: The Scottish pop-rock vets, fronted by
singer-songwriter Jim Kerr, active since 1977

Jim Kerr (frontman): “The song is about watching my grandsons grow up. How strength tenderness, courage, and gentleness might still belong together, even when the wider culture around them can send mixed signals. It’s less a statement than a question I hope they’ll spend their lives answering for themselves.”
TUTV: They will never write classic anthems like Don’t Forget About You, On The Waterfront or Alive And Kicking, too hard to match, but the orchestral pop Scots still know what pop-ular music needs to sound like to please their fanbase. It’s as simple as that.

Simon Le Bon (Duran Duran icon) is a big fan: ”One of the things I can
really recognize when I hear a bit of their music is the fun that they were
having when they made that. In fact, if you do check out Living Pins, you
will hear that in all of their music. I think it’s wonderful.”

Who: 5-piece indie newcomers from Brighton
describing their sound as slacker pop.

TUTV: This laid-back, buoyant, popy gem catches your ears’ attention on the spot.
Slinky here, Slinky there, Slinky everywhere, although he doesn’t seem to be the vocalist’s hero who brands him as disgusting.
Anyway, this light-hearted tune, spiced with sparkling guitar momentum and distorted
New Order synth/bass layers, is one to whistle, hum, or sing along to all day long.

Who: British post-punk trio. The story goes that the members met in a mosh pit. After playing all 3 in other bands, they got together to make a huge mark on the indie scene.

There’s a kind of hostile danger in the air from start to finish. Alternating near-whispering and quarrelsome vocals augment the pugnacious psyche of this hot-tempered uppercut. Mental stroke. Look over your shoulder when you go outside and play Lost Cause on your earphones.

Last week QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE broke the news about their new, 8th full-length,
baptized Perfecth (not a typo), with a bloody trailer, showing chief queen Josh Homme and keyboardist/guitarist Dean Fertita playing five-finger fillet. The record will land on October 30th.
Following the superb lead single Easy Street we get the 2nd preview track,
called INSIGNIFICANT OTHER. A slow-moving torch song, impassioned with
full-hearted Homme vocals.

Vitalizing tunes that work faster than a stream of caffeine

Who: Hefty 4-piece emerging from Belfast‘s thriving alternative music scene.
They have spent the last two years traversing the country and, in the process,
releasing a slew of successful singles, to establish themselves as one of
Ireland’s most compelling voices.
Track: GLOOM
New single.
Lyrically the song is about knowing from the outset that
a relationship is doomed, but entering into it regardless.
TUTV: After a tranquil synth intro, this emotional discharge intensity’s builds up gradually and menacingly, and scrapes the sky on the herculean chorus, spiked with anxious vocals. Image nu-metal titans Deftones and industrial vets Fear Factory jamming with subdued urgency. Gloom is wrapped in dark clouds and has an ominous sense of near-collapse. Darkness rules. No emergency exit.

The title track of their brand new LP (listen below).
The band’s seventh. Its title and cover art are borrowed, with Yoko Ono’s blessing,
from an artwork she made in the 1960s. The artwork is simple: a cream piece of
paper with a circle cutout, intended as a lookout through which to see the sky.
TUTV: A puissant psych guitar pop crackajack, riveting and sonically
seductive. It sets the mesmeric tone for their new magnifico full-length.
