Pink Floyd: A Life In Pictures is a lavish 100-page tribute to rock’s greatest conceptualists. British music monthly MOJO tells the dumbfounded PINK FLOYD’s story as the band
often did themselves: in a succession of powerful images.
1965-1967 Playing in ballrooms
As much as they were about unbelievable music, Pink Floyd were about incredible images. When the band played their first official gig at All Saints Hall in London in 1966, they did so accompanied by a phenomenon as new as their own ever-extending R&B: a light show.
With that event begins the relationship between sound and vision you’ll see unfold before you in this lavish new magazine. Accompanied by eyewitness recollection – Floyd’s Nick Mason is a key player here – Pink Floyd: A Life In Pictures follows the band on their unlikely journey from paisley shirted improvisers to feuding multimillionaires, each with their own take on the band’s legacy.

A couple of weeks ago former Pink Floyd guitarist DAVID GILMOUR,
aged 78 now, announced a new solo album, his fifth, baptized LUCK
AND STRANGE.
It’ll land on Earth on September 6 via Sony Music.
The 8-track album is Gilmour’s first album of new material
in nine years since his Rattle That Lock full length.
Artwork and photography by legend Anton Corbijn.
The majority of the album’s lyrics have been composed by Polly Samson, Gilmour’s co-writer and collaborator for the past thirty years.
“It’s written from the point of view of being older; mortality is the constant.”
Along with the news came the first new track, titled Piper’s Call. A both gentle and
guitar-driven piece that brings that iconic band Pink Floyd, in the late 70s era, to mind.
.
Just now Gilmour revealed in a press statement that he’ll take the road to promote
the upcoming longplayer in London, Rome, LA and New York (probably more dates TBA).
Former Pink Floyd guitar hero DAVID GILMOUR (aged 78 now) has finished
the recordings of his 5th solo LP. It’s titledLUCKY AND STRANGE and will
land on September 6 via Sony Music.
The 8-track album is Gilmour’s first album of new
material in nine years since Rattle That Lock.
David Gilmour about producer Charlie Andrew: (alt-J, Marika Hackman). “We invited Charlie to the house, so he came and listened to some demos, and said things like, “Well, why does there have to be a guitar solo there?” and “Do they all fade out? Can’t some of them just end?”. He has a wonderful lack of knowledge or respect for this past of mine. He’s very direct and not in any way overawed, and I love that. That is just so good for me because the last thing you want is people just deferring to you.”
The majority of the album’s lyrics have been composed by Polly Samson, Gilmour’s co-writer and collaborator for the past thirty years.
“It’s written from the point of view of being older; mortality is the constant.”
First taster is THE PIPER’S CALL. A both gentle and electrifying musing that
brings that iconic band, named Pink Floyd, in the late 70s era, to mind.

It follows the moment Syd Barrett was kicked out of PINK FLOYD from
the narrative of him going from groundbreaking musician to iconic rocker
and manic, unstable star. Directed by Roddy Bogawa and Storm Thorgerson
In doing so, he aims to reassert the Floyd’s historic creative path from three-minute
pop fantastias and cosmic-progressive freak-outs to the transitional epiphanies that
led to The Dark Side Of The Moon. Uncut digs into it all.
Also features on Beach Boys, Adrienne Lenker, Townes Van Zandt,

Devoted PINK FLOYD fans were delighted when the former, original drummer NICK MASON, aged 80 (!) now, decided 6 years ago to come back and play again.
Mason: “Six years ago when I got behind the drums again and we started playing
the early Pink Floyd material, it was a real pleasure on so many levels. Many of the
tracks had never actually been played live, so to have performed them all over the world
has been something we’ve all enjoyed immensely. To get the opportunity to come back to
the UK for another tour is something the band and I had been hoping we would be able
to do, so to say ‘we’re back’ feels good!”
He formed a band with singer Gary Kemp (former Spandau Ballet frontman), guitarist Lee Harris (from the late Ian Dury‘s band the Blockheads), Guy Pratt (bassist and former Pink Floyd collaborator) and Dom Beken (keyboardist with British ambient duo The Orb)
and went on the road in Europe and America in 2018 and 2019. In September 2021, they recorded a live album at London‘s legendary venue the Roundhouse, followed by
another tour.
And Mason has no intention to go back to his lazy couch, despite his age. He’s one of
those veteran rock musicians who want to go on as long as possible, because music streams through their veins, it’s their life.
These are the new tour dates for the UK and Europe.
Last MarchTHE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, one of the best-sold,
most famous, and praised masterpiece albums ever, turned 50.
Bassist and musical genius ROGER WATERS co-founded PINK FLOYD back in 1967,
then led for a short period of time by the late troubled musical genius Syd Barrett (replaced by Dave Gilmour). They released 15 studio LPs.
In 1984 due to the clashing personalities, mostly Waters vs Gilmour, Waters left the band thinking that Pink Floyd was finished anyway. They never worked ever again, and saying they weren’ friends whatsoever is an understatement.
For the occasion of the 50th birthday, Waters re-imagined-worked-invented all songs
of the classic. it’s now about a letter Waters wrote to the assistant to Donald Hall when the poet was in his last days. It’s a subtle change but it’s a substantial one, turning Dark Side of the Moon into a voyage inward, not outward. And it’s out now, receiving mixed reactions from the press.
MOJO: “The new focus on these songs’ lyrics proves deeply powerful, a different and profound kind of high. Consequently, The Dark Side OF The Moon Redux is wholly valid, the unnerving, stirring adjunct Waters was aiming for.” Score: 8/10.
Paste Magazine: “Fans may feel it’s more of a long slog than they remember, with the slower tempo stretching many of the songs beyond their natural length, and the spoken word passages lending a languorous quality that may induce drowsiness.” Score: 4/10.
Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason about REDUX.
TUTV: I don’t really like Waters‘ pretty huge ego and his double-edged political views,
but what he did here wasn’t commercial suicide. If you listen to REDUX with open mind, you can’t but conclude that Waters comes up with a totally different angle on Pink Floyd‘s timeless masterpiece and it works, for me that is. It’s an album, with an entertaining singer-songwriter approach and a wholly different musicality. Down to earth songs instead of psychedelic symphonies in space.
Also lyrically we get a (almost totally) different story, as Waters spread his letter he wrote to the assistant to renowned American poet Donald Hall in his last days (he passed away in 2018) all over the record, in near-whispering tone. But at times the story-telling is too long and gets in the way of the music. But overall, REDUX is a bold and successful achievement.

So far Waters‘ shared two tasters, Money and Time. I’m not a great fan of the man, but he’s a bloody brilliant musician with an ingenious artistic vision, as we know it. And here’s why.
