GOLDEN EARRING Guitarist GEORGE KOOYMANS Passed Away Aged 77

23 July 2025

GEORGE KOOYMANS, co-frounder/ guitarist/songwriter/co-vocalist of Dutch
rock icons GOLDEN EARRING (1961–2021) has passed away, aged 77, following complications with ASL (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). His illness meant the end
of the long lasting career back in 2021.

The band started their career in 1961, named The Tornados, they changed it a few times, and finally became Golden Earring in 1969. They recorded/released 25 albums. They had their greatest triumphs in Europe, but scored also some hits worldwide.

TOYAH And ROBERT Have A ‘RADAR LOVE’

On the seventh day – almost 3 years ago – TOYAH WILLCOX
and her beloved husband ROBERT FRIPP (King Crimson) started
their Sunday Lunch Sessions as a fun pastime while being locked
up in their kitchen due to that shit virus.

Three years later, they still have a party in their kitchen.

Last Sunday then went for a take on Radar Love (released in 1973),
the biggest hit (more than 135 million views on Spotify) of legendary
Dutch rock legends Golden Earring.

Here we go.

I’ve been drivin’ all night, my hands wet on the wheel
There’s a voice in my head that drives my heel
It’s my baby callin’, sayin’, “I need you here”
And it’s a half past four and I’m shiftin’ gear
When she is lonely and the longing gets too much
She sends a cable, coming in from above
Don’t need no phone at all
We’ve got a thing that’s called radar love
We’ve got a wave in the air
Radar love

So now, I want to find out again if the audience of this 1973 Dutch

Happy 70 To… Guitarist/Songwriter/Singer GEORGE KOOYMANS From King-Sized Rock Legends GOLDEN EARRING…

11 March 2018

GEORGE KOOYMANS started a band in 1961 (!) when he was only 13 with his buddy, bassist Rinus Gerritsen. Four years later this group was named GOLDEN EARRING. A brilliant Dutch rock force with a notable international status, mostly thanks to timeless magnum opus Radar Love. They scored countless classic hit singles and significant albums and are after more than 50 years still a blazing live turbo. Kooymans wrote many of their top songs, he was the guitarist, occasionally the main singer and he also wrote songs for many other artists. Happy 70 (born 11 March 1948) to a genuine icon in music’s history. Here are three Golden Earring crackers to start George‘s birthday party…

* JUST A LITTLE BIT OF PIECE IN MY HEART (1967) sung by Kooymans…

* BUDDY JOE (1972) also sung by Kooymans…

* RADAR LOVE – 24 Karat Gold classic (1973)
