Band: SLIGHTEST CLUE (Canada)
Who: Vancouver-based four-piece, like the secret after-school project of four kids who would have passed each other without a glance in the hallway at school, but once they’re plugged in and ready to play their distinct blend of post-punk, alternative rock, and dark pop, all bets are off.

New single: WHY CAN’T I CALL YOU?

The third and last track from their 2nd EP titled Carousel which will be released
officially on February 9th. It’s inspired by songwriter McLaren’s crush on a person
he couldn’t pursue.

TUTV: The tight tandem of drum and bass at work here determine the scorching
mid-tempo rhythm of this besotted piece from the kick-off. Why Can’t I Call You is
a mixed emotions-loaded crackerjack going forth and back. Fervid, wondering and yearning.

Torrid guitars augment the spellbound ardency and the feverish vocals of Malcolm
McLaren
reflect the song’s lovesick sentiments loud and clear just like Elias Bender Rønnenfelt, frontman of Danish Iceage does so intensely great. Top-tier stuff.

Wake up people, you have a call.

THE SLIGHTEST CLUE – Canadian Post-Punk Indies Take You On A Roller Coaster With ‘WHEN YOU WAKE UP’

Daily electricity to load your batteries

24 November 2023

Band: SLIGHTEST CLUE (Canada)
Who: Vancouver-based four-piece that brings distinct influences and experiences.
A stage actor whose playlists go from Talking Heads to Sonic Youth to Björk, a hook-obsessed recovering choir girl, an electrical engineer whose personal idol is John Bonham, and a guitarist who played for (and left) ten other bands before deciding this was the one for him.

New single: WHEN YOU WAKE UP

“We incorporated a lot of our influences on this track. There’s inspiration from the chord progressions and use of different time signatures that King Krule is known for, the song title which is a nod to My Bloody Valentine’s “When You Sleep,” and some lyrics from Modern English’s song “I Melt With You” which was a big inspiration in terms of storytelling for this song.”

TUTV: The song starts bluesy, smoothly, and mid-paced with sensuous jazzy vocals but,
on the 1-minute mark, a volcanic guitar/drum explosion occurs immediately followed by
a short electrifying bridge back to the first soft part.

That zigzagging process repeats itself a couple of times, taking you on a capricious roller coaster, up and down, forth and back, causing a what’s going on here experience. But give
this brainbreaker a couple of spins, and you’ll want to go back again and again for a seat on this turbulent ride. Trust me, you’ll be wide awake for the rest of the day.

Start.

SLIGHTEST CLUE – Canadian Garage Rock Misfits Nail It With Their New Cutter ‘SUIT UPTIGHT!’

Daily electricity to load your batteries

15 September 2023

Band: SLIGHTEST CLUE
Who: Vancouver-based four-piece that brings distinct influences and experiences: a stage actor whose playlists go from Talking Heads to Sonic Youth to Björk, a hook-obsessed recovering choir girl, an electrical engineer whose personal idol is John Bonham, and a guitarist who played for (and left) ten other bands before deciding this was the one for him. It’s like the secret after-school project of four kids who would have passed each other without a glance in the hallway at school – but once they’re plugged in and ready to play their distinct blend of post-punk, alternative rock, and dark pop, all bets are off. It wasn’t supposed to work, but it does, and they don’t have the slightest clue how or why.

New single: SLIGHTEST CLUE
A song that grapples with the fear of losing someone.

TUTV: Expect a bass-guitar-riff-manic and knife-edged mid-tempo garage cutter that sounds as if it was recorded in one take. Raw, rough and rowdy. When mixed emotions in a relationship are for real, why start to dub them over and over and add some special effects when you’re writing a song about and go into a studio to record it. And that’s the pitfall these young Canadians avoided here to my ears. I’m quite sure they have all early The Strokes records in their collection. Great, right? Absolutely. I’ll give you one clue: these Vancouver misfits will be back, sooner than you think.

Tune in.

Canadian Engine SLIGHEST CLUE With New Sizzling Single ‘ZIPPER’

Daily electricity to load your batteries

12 May 2023

Band: SLIGHTEST CLUE
Who: Vancouver-based four-piece with each member
bringing distinct influences and experiences. Influenced
by such big names as Talking Heads Sonic Youth and Björk.

New single: ZIPPER

The lyrics came from frustrations with one’s own mental state,
and feeling trapped when you can remember a happy feeling but
your brain won’t deliver it when you need it most.

TUTV: Expect a roll-riff-licking ripper bucking up all the way. A sterling rocker
that scurries full tilt with swagger pushed by a flat-out rhythm section, chainsaw
guitars and peppy male/female vocals. When the sizzling chorus kicks in, it’s jump
up and down time. Zipper is a zig-zagging zinger of a song fighting its way to a boiling climax. I didn’t need a clue to come to that conclusion, I just listened, several times.

Press play.
Get excited.
