TRACK BY TRACK

Artist: CEMENTO ATLANTICO
Who: The electronic project of Italian producer
and DJ Alessandro “ToffoloMuzik” Zoffoli

Cemento Atlantico‘s logo is made up of the initials “C” and “A”. According to him: «The letter ‘A’ indicates the first Ocean I crossed, the Atlantic one, while the letter” C – represented by a crescent Moon, with no political or religious reference – symbolizes rebirth or the advent of a new life in many ancient and modern cultures».

Track: GARAWEK KHAOS
Piece from the new, upcoming album
Dromomania
, out on 21 June.

TUTV: This mid-tempo techno boomer spellbinds from start to finish.
Magnetic vibrations interwoven with hip-swaying synth eurhythmics and
echoing vocals. Top!

Band: TIHONUS
Who: Belgian trio, led by singer/guitarist/songwriter Ben Overlaet, that sets course
to an unknown destination since 2009, inspired by the grunge movement of the early nineties and the feedback & dissonance of noise rock.

Track: SO I’VE BEEN TOLD

TUTV: Expect a medium-paced rock sucker-punch fueled by roasting guitar riffage,
Herculean drumming and sassy vocals. Think of Korn‘s cast iron resonance. So I’ve
Been Told
will test your stereo’s resilience.

Band: SPRINTS (Ireland)
Who: Irish post-punk sensation, fronted by the utterly cool Karla Chubb ,
who released their stellar debut LP Letter To Self last January.

Track: HELP ME, I’M SPIRALLING

TUTV: One of 2 brand-new songs that could easily have been part
of the album with its storming build-up/explode structure.

Band: TYPHOID ROSIE
Who: Robust retro rockers out of Brooklyn, New York
fronted by Rosie Rebel, producing high-energy sing-along
alt/power punk with pop hooks and indie grit.

Track: COVER IT UP
Second shared single from their, forthcoming
5th album, named Last Words, out on June 21.

“It’s a war to love yourself. So here’s an affirmation you can shout from rooftops and
on the tops of mountains, and most importantly when you’re looking in the mirror.”

TUTV: Get up, stand up and fight for your right to love
yourself, and screaming it out loud at the top of your lungs.

Artist: JOHN CALE
Who: Welsh VU legend

Track: SHARK-SHARK
Second single of his upcoming new album, his 2nd
in only 18 months, titled POPtical Illusion and out
on June 14.

TUTV: A rotating, metallic groove-infused
shocker that steamrolls on like forever.

Band: THE GREETING
Who: Collaboration of Irish bands
Big Generator and pMad

Track: NEED

War, Hate, Distrust, Propaganda, Bullying and all the horrible attributes of life,
we don’t need it!! We have seen it all and it does not make us happy, let us break
the cycle and stop the unhappiness!!

TUTV: Wow! What a powerhouse debut single. Terrifically vigorous
and puissant, with a titanic guitar-blazing and drum-hammering chorus.

Band: MASCOTS
Who: Outfit formed in the fall of 2014, as a dynamic passion project among five friends hailing from the outskirts of Cincinnati, Ohio, fusing infectious melodies, electrifying guitar riffs, and pop anthemic undertones.

Track: VERTIGO

“Vertigo” is the natural evolution and next step in finding hope, and seeing glimpses of a future beyond the instant satisfaction we so often seek. A social commentary on quick fixes that we use to tear ourselves down. It is the discovering of new possibilities and finding support to regain a sense of purpose.

TUTV: This is a towering Green Day-esque piledriver motorized by a peppered-up drum/bass tandem, haywire guitars, agitated vocals and a muscular chorus.

Artist: SOPHIE SHREDZ
Who: The artistic project of New Jersey-born, Nashville-based vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Sophie Ruggiero. She was raised listening to classic rock greats like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Heart, and became an avid guitar player by the age of 7.

Track: OMG

‘OMG’ is about living rent free in another person’s head. It’s about when someone’s hate
for you turns into an obsession. The song pokes fun at them for wanting to tear me down
when I’m thriving and living my best life. ‘OMG’ opened up a lot of new ideas for my upcoming album and influenced where the SOPHIE SHREDZ project is going creatively and sonically.”

TUTV: Booming electro hip-hop fireworks is what youe ears will hear.
A razzle-dazzle clip is what your eyes will see. If you love Alice Glass
you’ll definitely love SS.

“The overall concept for the video was creation, control and worship. We wanted to stay true
to the SOPHIE SHREDZ vibe while adding a darker twist to create a vampire chic moment.”

A moony reverie.

SPRINTS – Irish Post-Punk Turbine Steamroll On Two New Roasting Rippers ‘HELP ME, I’M SPIRALING’ And ‘DRONES’

5 May 2024

em>New striking strokes

2024 will be marked as the breakthrough year for supersonic Irish post-punk
turbine SPRINTS, as their rad riff ‘n’ roll debut LP Letter To Self, released the
first week of January, caused/causes shock waves among critics and old/new
fans.

TUTV said: “Schizo guitars, unrestrained bass/drum forcefulness, and Karla Chubb‘s borderline vocals combine for exorcistic flare-ups. At times, Chubb‘s unbridled intensity brings Courtney Love‘s maddening cry-outs to mind. Breathtaking hullabaloo.”

They’re on a non-stop tour now to spread the noize.

And on top of it they just dropped 2 new songs, billed as ‘The Black Box Sessions‘.
HELP ME, I’M SPIRALLING and DRONES could easily have been on the album
with their steamrolling build-up and explode structure.

SPRINTS – Mean Irish Punk ‘N’ Roll Machine Without A Shadow Of A Doubt One Of The Sensations Of This Young Year

Daily noise that works faster than any stimulant

15 February 2024

High-voltage punk turbo SPRINTS released their cooking debut album
LETTER TO SELF
last month and confirmed their big-talk-of-the-indie-town
status.

To promote their longplayer they are now in the middle of a European tour.
Last night they landed in Bruges, one of the most beautiful, historic cities in
Belgium.

Brugge, Belgium

I was there. And? OMG. The flabbergasting energy these ear-splitting loud Irish
beatniks developed was off the charts. Almost all the time they built up a near
unbearable tension as the haunting harbinger of a thundering explosion of insane
punk rage with frontwoman/guitarist’ Karla Chubb HUGE VOICE as the driving force,
that titanic loud that her monitors went down after only one song. Cool, right?
You betcha.

Wake-up world, Sprints is without a shadow of a
doubt one of the sensations of this young year.

Here’s an idea of their bulldozing live frenzy

SPRINTS – Irish High-Voltage Punk Turbine Scores Big Time With Standout Debut Album ‘LETTER TO SELF’

Ace longplayers

Band: SPRINTS

post-punk turbine.

Album: LETTER TO SELF

Album artwork

NME: “This memorable and arrestingly bleak debut LP feels like a loud announcement of a striking new band… noise-rock ripe with melodrama. The sense of catharsis that defines ‘Letter To Self’ is formidable and powerful. This is a dynamic album that is reflective of the muddled world we find ourselves in – delivered with a fortifying sense of honesty from an essential emerging band.” Full review here. Score: 5/5.

TUTV: Today 5 January is only the first official album release day of 2024 and we already get a RAD one. These Irish indies burst with tremendous vehemence and sharp-teethed gusto. Their high-voltage jackhammers trash and slash along their build-up/break-down course. Breathtaking hullabaloo.

Schizo guitars, unrestrained bass/drum forcefulness, and Karla Chubb‘s borderline vocals combine for exorcistic flare-ups. At times, Chubb‘s unbridled intensity brings Courtney Love‘s maddening cry-outs to mind. As I said, breathtaking hullabaloo. And the cliché no fillers, all killers can’t be more accurate here. Can’t wait to see them explode next month
on stage in Antwerp.

Notorious Music Website STEREOGUM Reveals Its List Of 40 Best New Bands Of 2023

13 November 2023

Slowly but surely all sorts of best-of-2023 lists will get pop up.

Notorious American music website STEREOGUM founded in 2002 and
winner of many awards, is the first with a 2023 list: 40 Best New Bands.
Check them all out HERE.

TURN UP THE VOLUME picked 5 of their 40.

– MODEL/ACTRIZ –
(Brooklyn, NY)

Part scrawling dance-punk, part feverish anxiety attack, all swagger.

– SNÕÕPER –
(Nashville, TN)

They unleash rapid-fire chaos. Their debut LP is 20 minutes long.

– SPRINTS –
(Dublin, Ireland)

Off-kilter rock music, filled with massive choruses and an infectious rage.

– THE TUBS –
(London, UK)

Their songs are jangly and romantic, as enthusiastic as they are fast.

– PUPIL SLICER –
(London, UK)

Slicer make music as cut-throat and deranged as their name suggests.

By the way, none of Stereogum‘s 40 new bands list
is on my best-new-bands-2023 list. I’ll come up with
my picks later.

SPRINTS – Irish High-Voltage Hit Team Explode On Their New Volcanic Single ‘UP AND COMER’

Daily noise that works faster than any stimulant

6 September 2023

Irish soon-to-be-the-talk-of-the-town post-punk turbine SPRINTS will cause stirring waves next January when they’ll unleash their debut LP, titled Letter To Self. Pre-order info here.

Album artwork

Ahead of it comes another high-voltage single, titled UP AND COMER,
the follow-up to the first one, named Adore Adore Adore.

Karla Chubb “[It’s] a pretty dry take on a fear and self consciousness that has been ruminating in me since I picked up an instrument. This innate fear that maybe I would always be ‘good for a girl’, but would I ever actually be great? It’s an invisible narrative that has been constructed by the doubts and negativity I’ve been fed by others, as well as my own imposter syndrome. It’s a song that takes aim at the idea that some of these traits and behaviours may almost be hereditary, and instead of letting that continue to hold me back, finally break free of the expected, embrace the anger and let it rip. The only way is forward.”

TUTV: Up And Comer is a quiet/Loud/quiet/Loud rollercoaster roaring its ugly head
every time the volcanic chorus attacks your stereo. Chubb‘s aggressive vocality balances somewhere between YYY’s Karen O‘s vibrant voice (the quiet parts) and explodes like early celebrity skin Courtney Love’s primal screams (the loud parts) while the band has all burners and all engines on. The electrical vehemence at work here is phenomenal.

LYRICS

I wear your name like it’s a noose around my neck, I slipped a rope just to fall right into a net
I wear a smile like it’s a runner, your despise like a badge of honour
They say she’s good for an up and comer

I swim the seas between paranoia and disbelief, I reach the surface but the air is hard to breathe
I wear a smile like it’s a runner, your despise like a badge of honour
They say she’s good for an up and comer

And if you beat her like a drum
If you beat her like a heart
I bet she’ll fire for you still
I swear to god she’ll make a start
They said she’s good for an up and comer
Can I please be an up and comer

I wear your name like it’s a noose around my neck, I spent your love like it’s money I haven’t got just yet
I wear a smile like it’s a runner, your despise like a badge of honour
They say she’s good for an up and comer

I wear a smile like it’s a runner, your despise like a badge of honour
They say she’s good for an up and comer

And if you beat her like a drum
If you beat her like a heart
I bet she’ll fire for you still
I swear to god she’ll make a start
They said she’s good for an up and comer
Can I please be an up and comer

Here we go the devil’s knocking at my door
