13 July 1985 – This Day 40 Years Ago The ‘LIVE AID’ Concert Marathon Was Held

13 July 2025

On 13th July 1985, 40 years ago today, the massive concert marathon LIVE AID
was held, organized by artists/musicians Bob Geldof (The Boomtown Rats) and Midge
Ure
(Ultravox) to raise funds for the devastating Ethiopian famine.

Announced as the ‘global jukebox’, the event was held simultaneously
at Wembley Stadium in London for 72,000 people, and at John F.
Kennedy Stadium
in Philadelphia with a crowd of 89,500. And an
audience of 1.9 billion TV viewers across 150 nations, that’s nearly
40% of the world population.

3 of the many highlights.

This Day In 1985 STATUS QUO Opened LIVE AID With ‘ROCKIN’ ALL OVER THE WORLD’

13 July 2024

Legendary 12-bar boogie woogie rockers STATUS QUO opened
the grand Live Aid event – with performances in Wembley Stadium,
London
and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia – to raise funds for the
devastating famine in Ethiopia.

They did it with the matching cracker Rockin’ All Over The World
(written by former Creedence Clearwater Revival voice John Fogerty).

Quo-ooo-ooo-ooo.

R.I.P. RICK PARFITT – ‘Status Quo’ Guitarist Passed Away 7 Years Ago Today

24 December 2024

(photo by Turn Up The Volume! Ostend 2015)

Why do I remember RICK PARFITT here every year since he passed away
7 years ago today, on 24 December. Because he was the 24/7 blonde God
riff-king of legendary 12-bar boogie rockers STATUS QUO.

And? Well, I saw the Quo about thirty times live. Am I serious? Absolutely
It was always no-nonsense, sweaty head-banging fun. And I liked-liked-liked-it,
rockin’ all over the world

Just like here with a let your hair hang down and boogie
live TV version of Down The Dustpipe in 1970 with the
audience in a coma.

RICHARD JOHN PARFITT was born on 12 October 1948
in Woking, England. He would have celebrated his
75th birthday today.

He was the blond God riff-king and 24/7 party animal
of legendary 12-bar boogie rockers STATUS QUO.

I saw the Quo countless times live. Am I serious? Absolutely
It was always no-nonsense, sweaty-head-banging entertainment.
And I liked-liked-liked-it. Rockin’ all over the world. Fun, fun, fun.

Unfortunately, Parfitt passed away on
22 December 2016 due to blood poisoning.

Keep on rockin’ in heaven, Rick.

One Live Shot A Day Turns Summer… Into A Holiday

British roll over and lay down rockers Status Quo made a living out of playing countless variations of The Doors‘ sultry sledgehammer Roadhouse Blues from their 1970 album Morrison Hotel.

Of course the Quo recorded the blues rock classic themselves and played it live for about a zillion years, like here on their farewell concert – before a temporary break – in 1984.

‘BLUE FOR YOU’ By Boogie Rock Legends STATUS QUO Released 45 Years Ago

16 March 2021

Band: STATUS QUO
Active: Since 1962

Album: BUE FOR YOU – 9th LP
Released: March 1976
45 years ago this month
Score: #1 in the UK, #3 in Australia

Turn Up The Up Volume: You either love or hate these boogie rockers who
seem to have been around forever. They scored a long series of big-time hits,
but all their LPs sounded the same, and then again the Quo were one of the
best no-nonsense heads-down rock engines I ever saw when they hit the stage.

Quuuuuuuuuooooooooo!
