for 30 years now, with diverse projects. They DJed the world around

guitar sparks come and go, and humming vocals add a seductive feel.

Who: Much lauded songsmith with 10 albums on
his résumé (6 recorded with his band the 400 Unit)

Track: SHOULD I GO MISSING

Isbell has reissued his 10-year-old album Something More Than Free
digitally. It will be available on physical media on October 3. It includes
this previously unreleased track, a B-side for one of the LP’s singles.

TUTV: Fortunately, this psychedelic, slide-guitar ripper didn’t go missing.
It resonates like a swamp blues burner spiced with good old organ play
and Isbell‘s firm voice. Totally cool.

Who: An experimental band based in Bergen, Norway, and São Paulo, Brazil.
Known for their unique fusion of genres, they blend elements of metal, dark
electronic, darkwave, industrial, and more.

So far, they have released two albums and their respective remixes.
A new full-length is waiting in the pipeline to be released in September.

Newest single.

TUTV: It’s a nasty industrial brainfucker motorized by fierce percussion
and ominous vocals. Its haunting and bloodcurdling progression has an
instant impact on your psyche. This is sick shit. I love it.

Who: Mysterious trio with an inimitable take on
humanity’s downward spiral into a dysfunctional
entropic existence. They unleashed their punk-groovy
debut EP Like You last year.

the wreckage! It happens… what are you gonna do?”

TUTV: This arresting, melancholic song sticks after just one spin. Its bluesy guitar

Piece that should have been on their excellent 2024 album Temporary Light ,
but it didn’t due to vinyl constraints. It was never intended as a single or B-side.

TUTV: Yes, it would have been an unquestionable highlight on the album. But on or off it, it’s great to have this phantasmagoric pearl right now. A dream-in-motion beauty for the ears, mind, and soul. Made me immediately think of Brian Eno‘s ambient atmospherics. Wonderful. Truly wonderful.

As announced earlier on, London‘s glam rock vets SUEDE fronted by voice/face/songwriter Brett Anderson, have bagged their 10th album. It’s baptized Antidepressants and it will land on our speakers on September 5th.

They just dropped the 3rd single, named DANCING WITH THE EUROPEANS.

Anderson about the song in an interview with NME: “The song was inspired by a gig we did a couple of years ago in Spain. I was going through a bad time personally, and the gig was just amazing. I just felt that amazing thing you have when you do a great gig. You feel like you’re bigger than something that’s just yourself – you’re part of a group of people.”

TUTV: Just like on the two previous singles, Disintegrate and Trance State, Anderson
stars in the middle with an overwhelming vocal performance, peaking on the epic chorus, and he’s backed by full of vim and vigour drums/bass tandem and glimmering guitars.

is somewhere in there too, they say. I have no clue what he’s doing.
Anyway, this a bonkers tune.

Band: KNEECAP
Who: Belfast‘s sharp-mouthed, notorious rap team KNEECAP – Mo Chara,
Móglaí Bap, and DJ Próvaí – hip & hop around with a knife between
their teeth since 2017.

They released their debut album 3cag in 2018
and went viral last year with follow-up Fine Art.

Track: THE RECAP

Lately, they make headlines with their loud and clear, ongoing support for Palestine.
They got heavily critiqued for it when they played Coachella Festival in Indo, California
last April.

To emphasize the whole political charade the band go after the Tory trade minister
Kemi Badenoch who started to hunt them back in 2023 when he withdrew an
arts grant awarded to the band.

The trio brought a discrimination case against the U.K. government
and won, donating the proceeds to Belfast community groups. Yes!

were one of the top indie bands in the UK. They released 3 LPs, then called it a day.

Third Man Records.

As we, the fans, all know, glam rock/pop luminaries SUEDE orchestrated by the never aging Brett Anderson, have canned their 10th longplayer, named it Antidepressants
and will share it with the world on September 5th.

Along with the announcement came the sky-scraping lead single Disintegrate.
And the follow-up TRANCE STATE is as monumental, cranked-up with drum/bass
impetus, radiant guitar lines, and as ever, Anderson‘s melodramatic vocals. The final
result has a razzle-dazzle impact on your speakers and ears.

Who: Swinging mod-pop trio
from Boston, MA.

Track: HEY SAH-LO-NEY-COVER

A cover of Mickey Lee Lane‘s 1965 firecracker, which, along with a remix of their 2022
song Jamie C’mon went digital last weekend and will be out on 7″ vinyl this summer.

TUTV: This is the kind of instant-affecting tunes that get all of your lazy limbs excited.
165 swirling seconds of punchy punk ‘n’ roll. An irresistibly uplifting upper. Bass and drum produce a battering beat, guitar riffs fly around and Linda Pardee‘s vivid vocals trigger you to get up, stand up and scream your lungs out when the ridiculously catchy chorus pops up.

symphony frontman of The Verve.

The lyrics paint a picture blending imagery of horror and cannibalism. The song
portrays a character adrift in a world without moral boundaries, a being driven by
thirst and pleasure. The themes explore unrestrained hedonism, the loss of control,
and the banality of evil.

TUTV: Be ready for a sonic Stephen King -esque nightmare. Diabolic, bone-chilling and bloodcurdling. Perfect to play to your zombie friends. Play this tormenting serpent of

Who: East Yorkshire’s Carden Mucklin. A young genderqueer writing songs about random thoughts and feelings, pouring their lived experiences of being queer & trans, as well as their journey through the mental health jungle, into songwriting and photography.

Track: OLD SOUL

“This was my first time creating a track that I didn’t have a plan for, or a set sound in my head. I wrote the four lines & guitar part but then shelved the song as everything I added didn’t feel right. When I brought it to producer Adam, we decided to keep the lyrics simple and to build it up with other sounds and layers. I wanted the song to feel almost like ruminations that spiral around but start from just a few sentences. I think we created the perfect sound!”

TUTV: Old Soul is an intriguing, trancey, and multi-instrumental chant.
Think folktronica siblings CocoRosie. Wayward and fascinating. Top piece.

Back in 2022 London’s glam rock/pop veterans SUEDE (in the US still known for legal reasons as ‘The London Suede’), led by the never aging Brett Anderson, released their
9th, quite remarkable album Autofication.

And now the news just came in that they have bagged album #10.
It’s titled Antidepressants and will land on September 5th.

Legendary English music weekly Melody Maker named London’s fresh glam and glitter
outfit SUEDE, fronted by the charismatic androgyne Brett Anderson, the best new band
in Britain in April 1992, a month before they released their debut single THE DROWNERS,
a first sign of alt-indie pop bliss.

A year later, Suede showed why MM was absolutely right when they
shared their astonishing Self-Titled Debut LP with the world.

After their 2nd masterstroke (even better than their debut) DOG MAN STAR, musical orchestrator and guitarist Bernard Butler left but it didn’t break up the band. On the contrary, Suede survived with swirling style and vivid verve.

They released 7 more albums (from okay ones to a couple of great ones)
so far with Autofication as their most recent one. It came out in 2022.

1. ‘Ventilator Blues’ by DEAP VALLY

Sad news came in a couple of weeks ago. L.A.’s blues rock tandem
Deap Vally – Lindsay Troy and Julie Edwards – one of the most exciting
and dynamite acts, of the past 10 years call it a day.

But not without a big bang. They say farewell with an extensive North America tour.
They’ll release a new vinyl edition of their superb debut LP Sistrionix, out Spring 2024.

And their recent roasting cover of The Stones‘ VENTILATOR BLUES
track from their 1972 LP Exile On Main Street is spot-on awesome.
Sounds like this classic was written for them.

2. ‘Crystal Closet Queen’ by PIXIES

Musical Nashville legend Leon Russell, born
Claude Russell Bridge in 1942, passed away in
2016, at the age of 74.

To celebrate the genial, all-around, eccentric-looking icon, a 10-track
tribute album came out last September, titled A Song For Leon.

The imperishable noise rockers Pixies are part of the LP’s celebrity cast,
with a red-hot-blooded version of Russell‘s 1971 classic boogie woogie cracker
Crystal Closet Queen.

Fireworks.

3. ‘Nookie’ by FIDLAR

Los Angeles punks Fidlar (Fuck It Dog, Life’s a Risk) released
a new 6-track EP last March, called That’s Life.

Shortly after, they shared their take on Limp Bizkit‘ 1999 hit Nookie.

Nasty. Rowdy. Punktastic.

4. ‘Personal Jesus’ by IGGY POP and TREVOR HORN

British famous singer-songwriter-producer TREVOR HORN (now 74),
who scored a No 1 UK hit in 1979 with his one-time project Buggles
and their pop earworm Video Killed The Radio Star (more than 323 million
streams on Spotify) released an album of 11 covers early this month. It’s
titled Echoes: Ancient & Modern.

One of the covered songs is Personal Jesus, the 24-carat Depeche Mode classic
from 1990. Horn invited eternal punk Iggy Pop to do the singing. An inch-perfect
decision. At the age of 76, he still sounds like he wants to be your dog.

Bone-chilling.

5. ‘Because The Night’ by SUEDE

Since their reunion in 2010 glam pop legends Suede got
tremendously active with 4 albums and constant touring.

Last February they did something really amazing. They performed
at the BBC’s Maida Vale Studios for their Piano Room Month‘s series
with artists’ playing the piano room with the BBC Concert Orchestra.

Suede choose to cover the 1978 classic cracker Beacuse The Night,
co-written by Bruce Springsteen and recorded for eternity by Patti Smith.

The band’s take is astonishing. The orchestral magnificence is grand and
frontman Brett Anderson‘s vocal effort is phenomenal. Pure tour de force.

Formidable.

6. ‘Why D’Ya Do It’ by SHIRLEY MANSON and PEACHES

A tribute album for the legendary, singular, and utterly charismatic
Marianne Faithfull came out a couple of weeks ago.

One of the most notable interpretations of Faithfull songs is by Garbage‘s Shirley Manson and queer queen Peaches who turn the explicit 1979 song WHY’D YA DO IT into a disco stomper.

7. ‘Cello Song’ by FONTAINES D.C.

Last July a new Nick Drake tribute album, titled
The Endless Coloured Ways – The Songs Of Nick Drake
came out.

Folk songsmith Drake (1948-1974) was/is an inspiration for many singer-songwriters.
His 3 LPs Five Leaves Left (1969), Bryter Layter (1970) and Pink Moon (1972) were and
are still widely lauded. The trouble artist died following an overdose of amitriptyline,
an antidepressant, aged only 26.

New Irish post-punk heroes Fontaines D.C. were invited too. They picked ‘Cello Song
from Drake‘s 1969 debut LP Five Leaves Left. The Irishmen’s version is just splendid in
their own haunting way.

Sublime.

8. ‘Purple Rain’ by DOLLY PARTON

At the age of 77, the fabulous country superstar
still is working longer than 9 to 5 per day.

And to prove her never-ending productivity, she released her
49th (!) LP last month, named Rockstar. Yep, Parton‘s first rock LP.
It features several big-name collaborations.

I don’t own a Dolly album, I didn’t follow her career but as so many million people
I know her hits, and I do love her formidable voice – the heroine again on this record –
and her I do what I want attitude.

The supreme standout track is her version of Purple Rain,
the 1984 blockbuster hit by late musical genius Prince.

9. ‘On The Other Side’ by NICK CAVE and DEBBIE HARRY

Last June the late Jeffrey Lee Pierce, the wayward mastermind of underrated
indie mavericks Gun Club from L.A. would have celebrated his 65th birthday.

As part of an ode album The Task Has Overwhelmed Us Debbie Harry and
Nick Cave covered JLP’s beauty On The Other Side. A pearl he only played live
for a while.

Goosebumps.

10. ‘Dead Flowers’ by MAREN MORRIS

Last March, a country rock tribute album for the immortal Stones was
put together by renowned producer Robert Deaton. It features 14 covers
of 14 classics of one of the greatest bands in history.

My pick: Dead Flowers (1971) by American singer-songwriter star Maren Morris.
