Band: THANK
Who: 4 indie noisemakers
from Leeds, UK.

Track: WOKE FRASIER
It follows previous ace
single Do It Badly.

“The song strikes an alluring mixture of dark techno adjacent punk themes and farcical lyrics from the perspective of a right-wing podcast host grifter obsessed with the word Woke. Solidifying the group’s terminally online status, the song is accompanied by a brilliant absurdist music video made in a video game sim akin to “You’re A Wizard Harry”.

Punk woke punk here,
punk woke there,
punk woke everywhere.

Hells bells!

Band: TV PINS
Who: 5-piece from London and the West Midlands, delivering vocal harmony drenched sounds of West coast Americana with distinctively British avant-garde songwriting. They share a love of keyboard grooves and a fusion of styles from 70s Americana, classic British new wave, 60’s psychedelia and hook-laden power pop.

Press: “Set against a dystopian backdrop, ‘Bye Bye Reseda’ transports listeners to an alternate reality where the United States has become a dictatorship. In this world, the supreme leader has transformed the entire southern states into one massive golf course named after his favourite Los Angeles suburb. While the residents of Reseda are forced into servitude, working as caddies, bartenders and exotic dancers for less than minimum wage, one brave couple make their escape for the coast.”

Vibrant tune. Revved-up orchestration.
Guitar-charged power pop gem.
Scream-along chorus.

FUCK TRUMP!

Who: 4 space rockers from Italy.

Track: TENUOUS FORM
Piece from their new III album.

Psychedelic Kraut-pop-rock trip, driven

and bone-chilling guitar electricity, with
ghostly vocals creating a twilight
experience.

Band: SLIP~ons
Who: Indie quartet from Vancouver (Canada)
References: Husker Du, The Posies, Soul Asylum, the Nils.

Track: GRAYSTONE

“The Graystone was a venue we used to play in Detroit back in the late 80s when I was in the Doughboys. It was always an adventure, from just getting across the border to dealing with the promoter, Cary Safarian, who everyone referred to as ‘Scary.’

Graystone” showcases singer Pytel’s signature gravelly vocals and clever, tongue-in-cheek lyrics, all backed by slamming rhythms, punchy guitars, and rolling bass lines that drive the melodies. Pytel reflects on the inspiration behind the song, saying, “The Graystone was a venue we used to play in Detroit back in the late 80s when I was in the Doughboys. It was always an adventure, from just getting across the border to dealing with the promoter, Cary Safarian, who everyone referred to as ‘Scary.

Passionate.
High-powered.
Far-out and fiery.

Artists: COCOROSIE
Who: Folktronica sisters Sierra Rose Rosie”
and Bianca Leilani “Coco” Casady.

Track: LEAST I HAVE YOU
The first new song to celebrate
the siblings’ 20 years in music.

Press: The song’s musical arc mirrors the sisters’ relationship: it begins
combatively, with the sound of gun-toting guitar squalls and beats like
Street Fighter punches, before leveling out into tentative euphoria,
cautiously crawling towards the ecstatic union of that chorus.

Happy 20.

Artists: CROW BABY
Who: Berlin-based duo, featuring Jean-Louise Parker and Cherilyn MacNeil,
both born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, and each a songwriter
and multi-instrumentalist with own projects.

Track: ONLY IF YOU WORK

“Hey, rein it in/ Pain again/ Rein it in / Feign, play it ok/
Play it to win, Never give in, never complain
“,

“Like an anthem or a mantra, cheering themselves on as they strain to reach some unnamed success. In verse two, “rein” becomes “reign” – shrieked like a mad queen! – cheeky word play that alludes to great ambitions.”

Both sensuous and ardent guitar-pop entertainment
with crystalline vocals and a far-out climax.

Artist: MR BILLY FITZGERALD
Who: Singer-songwriter from Ireland who
makes eclectic lush indie-pop-rock songs.

Track: OLD LOVES

“A song almost two decades in the making that explores the dangerous
nostalgia in looking back through rose tinted glasses at past romances.”

A peppy, amplified and foot-stompin’
pop groove spiced with affecting vocals.

Artist: NOANNE

Big tune. Titanic voice.
Brassy and sassy score.

Bad-ass havoc, garage punk madness and unbridled turmoil to test

Band: SOME REMAIN
Who: Young punk gunslingers
from Ireland.

Track: DEATH DEFYING STUNTS
The first taken from an upcoming EP
slated for release early 2025.

Not only does it defy death, it pretty much defies description as it takes you on a glorious and wild ride through early UK punk (Read About Seymour – Swell Maps) and surf rock (Miserlou – Dick Dale) with some Dr Feelgood and The Cribs thrown in for good measure.

“A hectic party tune that leaves you feeling like you’ve
just landed a sick kickflip over a tank of sharks.”

Bloodcurdling racket.
Demonic hit-and-run.
Post-punk-tastic gusto.

Band: COMMON CULTURE
Who: Rousing, fiddle driven alternative
folk band from Barnsley, England.

Track: WASH AWAY THE DAY

CC have that uplifting drive of the Levellers and the eurythmic catchinesss of
Mumford & Sons. Wash Away The Day is a brisk pop tune going forth and back, from
low-key to vivacious and back, while ardent harmonies and energetic violins complete
the swirling sonic picture.

Band: SOFT SKIES INC
Who: Philadelphia-based identical-twin duo and longtime musical confidants
Ryan and Martin Rex, their shared sonic compass draws a straight line from the
classic alternative of their youth to the modern alternative and dream-pop of
today.

Track: SOONER OR LATER

A song of hope, riding those tender waves of nostalgia, understanding that a loss of innocence comes with age but that we emerge from the other side with newfound perspective and awareness.

Melodic guitar pop at its Sebadoh best. Uptempo shoe-slacker-gaze
spiced with scintalling synths and ethereal vocals. Start dreaming in
overdrive. Right here.

Band: VERRA CRUZ
Who: British alt-rock trio, known
for their hard-hitting anthems.

Track: HANG ON TO THE SUN

“Hang on to the sun, hang on til the wind and waves subside,
hang on to the sun til you leave all your worries behind.”

Mighty power ballad bringing epic musing moments
of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden to mind. Top-shelf.

Artist: STEVIE NICKS
Former Fleetwood Mac heroine.
Track: THE LIGHTHOUSE

Nicks: I wrote this song a few months after Roe v Wade was overturned. It seemed like overnight, people were saying ‘what can we, as a collective force, do about this…’ For me,
it was to write a song. It took a while because I was on the road. Then early one morning I was watching the news on TV and a certain newscaster said something that felt like she was talking to me ~ explaining what the loss of Roe v Wade would come to mean. I wrote the song the next morning and recorded it that night.”

A vehement pro-reproductive rights anthem that
overwhelms on the chorus. Nicks‘s impressive voice
lights in the middle.

Band: THE CURE
Track: ALONE

The first composition of the Goth icons’ upcoming 14th LP, their first
in 16 years, titled Songs Of A Lost World. It’ll drop on planet Earth on
November 1st.

Alone is an almost 7-minute funeral march, a slowly progressing lament, layered with mourning synths. Smith only starts singing halfway and augments the sombre atmosphere all the way through. After a couple of spins the songs keeps on coming back to haunt you. Sonic cure for restless minds.

Band: JOHNNY MARR AND THE HEALERS
Who: Short-lived (2001-2004) Johnny Marr project
after he left The Smiths.

Track: THE WAY THAT IT WAS
Previoulsy unreleased song from the deluxe
reissue (released last week) of their one and
only album, named Boomslang.

A sweet 18-carat pop diamond with a melancholic resonance and impassioned
and affecting Marr vocals. No idea why this gripping reverie was hidden for so long,
but happy that my ears can enjoy it today. The Way That It Was wouldn’t have been
out of place on The Verve’s 1997 classic ‘Urban Hymns‘.

Brand New Hair-Rising 4-Track EP By Leeds’ Noise Combo THANK Out Now – Discover ‘PLEASE’ Here…

11 October 2019

Band: Thank
Who: Deafening combo of trash noise punks out of Leeds featuring Theo Gowans,
well-known in his own right on the UK’s harsh noise scene for his hyper-prolific
output under the pseudonym Territorial Gobbing.
EP: A 4-track one called ‘PLEASE‘, their second EP
Sound: Expect exorcist madness à la Irish trashers Girl Band, clamorous explosibility
that will make your speakers tremble in utter fear, electro crankiness you can dance
to in very mysterious ways, bass injected rashness to scare your neighbors with, four merciless jackhammers that will activate your horrific Mr Hyde side. MENTAL stuff!

Smash your head right here…

Clamorous And Capricious Motherrockers THANK Advice To ‘THINK LESS’…

Daily fuel to load your sonic batteries…

29 July 2019

A band that calls itself a Slipknot covers band has my hungry attention directly. Not that I’m a fan of those overrated dressed-up Iowa cowboys who recently reunited only to make tons of American dollars, but I just love the humour and irony of labeling your group that hilarious way.

That aside, let’s talk some real noisebizz now. This Leeds screamy and chaotic turbo called THANK already woke up their hometown about two years ago with their mentally havoc EP ‘Sexghots Hellscape’ and gearing up to unleash their follow-up EP titled ‘Please‘, out
in October.

Ahead of it comes furious single ‘THINK LESS‘. A volcanic blow-up build around an incessant, head-spinning, percussive bass riff that tries to survive amidst the sustained attack of crackling guitars, thwacking drums and the devilish singer’s vocal madness. This brutal squad balances somewhere between Irish amok makers Girl Band and early Liars  insanity. Yes, like an ear-shattering tank! Don’t think, just press to play right here and trash yourself…
