Psychedelic Pop Magicians THE FLAMING LIPS Caused Massive Screams Of Joy In AMSTERDAM…

THE FLAMING LIPS – Melkweg, Amsterdam, The Netherlands – 11 November 2018

Early 2017 Oklahoma‘s psychedelic pop orchestra THE FLAMING LIPS blew my and many others’ heads off in Antwerp, Belgium with their sensational and spectacular phantasy show – full review right here. Yesterday the impressive ‘all you need is love‘ symphonic magicians did it again at the fabulous and utterly cosy 1500-cap Melkweg in rainy Amsterdam.

Although it was, visually and aurally, a similar performance as last year, my experience this time was totally overwhelming as I witnessed the whole extravaganza from the very front-line and also the cutting impact on your adrenalin’s flow of whatever happened anywhere at anytime last night was so direct and intense because of the intimate structure of this warmly brilliant small-sized venue. Encouraged constantly by the tireless Wayne Coyne, the incomparable and highly emotional Maestro of The Lips Spectacle the raving crowd screamed of joy for the whole mind-boggling journey. You really had to be there, in the heat of the moment, to fully feel the unstoppable stream of ecstasy. Hail to The Flaming Lips. Thanks, again, for 2 hours of mesmerizing magic! I’m still on a cloud while writing.

Here are some pictures from last night’s fireworks

TODAY’S YESTERDAY ALBUM – ‘The Soft Bulletin’ – By THE FLAMING LIPS (1999)

Remarkable albums from the past…

‘The Soft Bulletin’ by THE FLAMING LIPS
Released: 17 May 1999 / The band’s 9th longplayer

ROLLING STONE wrote: “The eccentric Oklahoma outfit Flaming Lips serenely release another baffling, winning, neo-psychedelic recording. Densely textured, awkward but somehow melodic, The Soft Bulletin finds these pop oddballs with their poker-faced humor firmly intact… Their music isn’t, how you say, universally accessible, and the weirdness gets same-y, but no one
else has posited a parallel universe in which the Sixties and the Nineties exist simultaneously, allowing for a peculiarly convincing brand of monolithic robotic swirl.”
– Full review here.

TURN UP THE VOLUME! says: The Flaming Lips are The Wizards Of Oz Rock creating a fairytale universe with both elves and demons, with good ones and bad ones and
other-worldly symphonies that transfer you to a never-never land full of rainbows…

2 June 2018

After 14 studio longplayers, released since 1983, eccentric Oklahoma psychedelia adventurers THE FLAMING LIPS just released a GREATEST HITS VOL. 1. A highly
relaxing collection of 11 of their sonic fairy tales. This Volume 1 is obviously about
these daydreamers’ most romantic and moony side. I guess a future Volume 2
selection will feature their more surreal, more chaotic & hard hittin’ symphonies.

Put on your headphones, dim the lights and join the Lips’ starry-eyed trip…

THE FLAMING LIPS – In Their Own Weird Fantasy World in New Video For ‘THEIR SHOULD BE UNICORNS’…

Clips that will impress your ears and your eyes…

VivaVideo

Last January, Friday the 13th, on the 56th birthday of charismatic frontman Wayne Coyne the Oklahoma psychedelic eccentrics THE FLAMING LIPS’ released their new spacey opus, titled OCZY MLODY. “Syd Barrett meets A$AP Rocky and they get trapped in a fairy tale in the future” said Coyne about the new album. It’s a remarkably moody promenade with both fantastical images and also dark melancholic musings straight from their Flaming universe where not all is glamour and glitter. A great record to play on your earphones at night with the lights dimmed. The new video for one of the finest moony tracks THERE SHOULD BE UNICORNS will give you a wondrous look into the Lips‘ unearthly world…

On 3 February the band landed in Antwerp (Belgium) with their phenomenal fairytale circus. I saw them live before but this show was just the best. Tremendously spectacular and just unforgettable from start to finish. Here are some of my pics…

THE FLAMING LIPS – The Greatest Rock And Fairy Tale Show On Earth…

liveblglo

THE FLAMING LIPS – Roma Venue – Antwerp, Belgium – 3 February 2017

The last time I saw THE FLAMING LIPS, the eccentric Oklahoma psychedelia adventurers perform, was in 2006 in my hometown Ghent (Belgium), after the release of their eleventh album ‘At War With the Mystics’. Back then their shows were already fascinating, carnival-like events but what I witnessed last Friday in Antwerp was beyond imagination. Like a
once in a lifetime eye-catching, highly dazzling and unworldly sonic fairy tale. The whole theatrical extravaganza started with a monumental rendition of ‘Race for the Prize’ while the audience exploded in joy when the venue got filled with big multi-colored balloons, a massive confetti rain and a mind-boggling light spectacle on stage. From then on glamour & glitter magician Wayne Coyne conducted the extraordinary happening, backed by his fabulous orchestra, from one highlight to another and he transferred us all instantly into his fantastical galaxy for two thrilling hours. What I, and the deliriously euphoric crowd, experienced along the magical journey, musically and visually, is actually hard to describe.

This fan’s footage from the same show in London will give you an idea / confetti cannons at 3.25

Fact is that the overwhelming mix of phantasy injected symphonies selected from their outstanding and extensive – three and half decades – repertoire (with the moody and reflective Oczly Mlody as their newest achievement) was the ongoing, ecstatic heartbeat of the concert, that gave significance and purpose to the grotesque, bombastic and epic spectacle where demons and dragons try to infiltrate but just have no chance to survive. The Lips‘ phenomenally psychedelic and sixties romanticism injected music is the perfect soundtrack for the swirling succession of visual extravaganza: enormous light-up gongs, gigantic dancing eyeballs, giant aliens and goblins puppets, an inflatable rainbow, surreal knight Coyne riding a unicorn with a neon mane into the hall and rolling over the crowd in his giant plastic ball singing David Bowie’s Space Oddity with a delirious choir of 2500…

… on the other hand, the very last song of the greatest rock and fairytale show on earth was ‘Do You Realize (that everyone you know someday will die)??’ and brought all spectators back to the hard laws of reality and life. And the future looks really dark if you think about this new era of reborn egoism and human intolerance that is created recently by sickly narcissistic political leaders such as idiot Trump & his dangerous buddy Putin. Thank you Flaming Lips for letting me dream now and then and still believe there’s always hope…

‘Oczy Mlody’ by FLAMING LIPS13 January 2017

flaminglips2

Wayne Coyne, the eccentric frontman of Oklahoma psychedelia explorers got himself a special 56th – on a Friday the 13th – birthday present with today’s release of THE FLAMING LIPS’ new spacey opus, titled OCZY MLODY. It’s certainly not a wild party album, not at all, rather a reflective promenade through the universe of one’s errant mind. A record to play after all guests are gone and one you want to discover alone, preferably in the dark like listing to the frogs with demon eyes. I know, a bit creepy. Start your adventurous trip here…

THE FLAMING LIPS – Vintage Moodiness With New Track…

Video clips that will impress your eyes and ears…

‘Sunrise (Eyes Of The Young)’ by THE  FLAMING LIPS

The psychedelic Oklahoma veterans THE FLAMING LIPS, led by eccentric frontman Wayne Coyne, will release new album Oczy Mlody on 13 January. Here’s the video for the second track they just unveiled. SUNRISE (EYES OF THE YOUNG) is a truly beautiful, moody ballad reminding me of their spaced-out 2002 ‘Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots’ longplayer. Dreamy and melancholic splendor. In the clip you’ll see Coyne and cohorts playing in a small pink room along footage of the rising sun. The natural visuals are intercut with a nude woman – draped in rotoscoped bikini and devil horns – serving as the solar deity who orchestrates the rising and setting of the sun. Enjoy the heavyhearted reverie here…

Probably just like me, and everybody else, you have no idea what the title of the Lips’ new LP ‘Oczy Mlody’ means. No worries, Wayne Coyne will tell you all you need to know here…
