(Jim: right / William: left)

James McLeish Reid was born 60 years ago today,
on 29 December 1961 in East Kilbridge, Scotland. To
celebrate the birthday of the youngest Reid (his brother
William is 63) I picked a classic from his favorite band
The Jesus And Mary Chain

“I’ll be your plastic toy
I’ll be your plastic toy
For you
Eating up the scum
Is the hardest thing for
Me to do
Just like honey…”

THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN – Debut Masterpiece ‘PSYCHOCANDY’ Came Out 35 Years Ago Today

18 November 2020

Band: THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN (Scotland)
Active: 1983–1999, 2007–present

Album: PSYCHOCANDY
Released: 18 November 1985 – 35 years ago today
Score: #31 in the UK

AllMusic/Ned Raggett: “Arguably Psychocandy is an album with one trick and one trick alone — Beach Boys melodies meet Velvet Underground feedback and beats, all cranked up to ten and beyond, along with plenty of echo. However, what a trick it is… What the Reids sing about — entirely interchangeable combinations regarding girls, sex, drugs, speed, and boredom in more or less equal measure — is nothing compared to the perfectly disaffected way those sentiments are delivered. Bobby Gillespie’s “hit the drums and then hit them again” style makes Moe Tucker seem like Neil Peart, but arguably in terms of sheer economy he doesn’t need to do any more.”
Score: 5/5.

Turn Up The Volume: Fuzz and buzz pop at its best. Amen.

Great Tribute To A Great Band – Irish Sensation FONTAINES D.C. Covers THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN…

16 May 2020

Young Irish rockers FONTAINES D.C. who hit the music scene sensationally with their blistering debut album Dogrel joined the countless artists making and sharing music
from their homes.

They picked the musing title track of The Jesus And Mary Chain‘s 1987 Darklands
album. Their version is sensitive, intimate, and dreamy with frontman Grian Chatten
really singing instead of sneering with his characteristic parlando vocals and, wow,
he has a truly affecting voice. Wistful top cover. A great tribute to a great band.
