There They Go – THE LA’S Released Their Brilliant Pop Debut Album 35 Years Ago
Significant longplayers from yesteryear
1 October 2025
Band: THE LA’S (Liverpool)
Who: Indie pop heroes from Liverpool, fronted by Lee Mavers
and John Power on bass and backing vocals. Power left the band
after this debut to form his own, named Cast , who were one of
the support acts for the UK dates on the Oasis reunion tour.
Active: 1983–1992, 1994–1995,
2005, 2011
They released their eponymous LP, their one
and only, on 1 October 1990, today 35 years ago.
AllMusic/Stephen Erlewine: “Some albums exist outside of time or place,
gently floating on their own style and sensibility. Of those, the La’s lone album
may be the most beguiling, a record that consciously calls upon the hooks and
harmonies of 1964 without seeming fussily retro, a trick that anticipated the
cheerful classicism of the Brit-pop ’90s.”
Mavers about the LP at the time: “We hate it. It never captured anything
that we were about. To cut a long story short, too many cooks spoil the broth.”

Waking Up With… 60 Years Old LEE MAVERS Of THE LA’S
Works faster than caffeine
2 August 2022
Lee Anthony Mavers was born on 2 August 1962 in Liverpool.
Happy 60 to the voice/face/songwriter of one-time heroes THE LA’S
who scored an instant classic with their self-titled debut LP filled with
timeless guitar-pop melodies in 1990.
Afterward, the drugs took over and the band collapsed. A few lazy
attempts were made to restart the motor, but without soul or spirit.
Anyway, happy birthday. to Lee.
There he goes…

Here’s that classic in full…
There she goes
There she goes again
Racing through’ my brain
And I just can’t contain
This feelin’ that remains
There she blows
There she blows again
Pulsing through my vein
And I just can’t contain
This feelin’ that remains
There she goes, there she goes again
She calls my name, pulls my train
No one else could heal my pain
But I just can’t contain
This feelin’ that remains
There she goes
There she goes again
Chasing down my lane
And I just can’t contain
This feelin’ that remains
There she goes (x3)

Knockouts from the past…
23 May 2019
One hit wonders THE LA’S wrote themselves in the music history books with their
fabulous, one and only, self-titled album back in 1990 and I’m sure there are tons
of people who only know one song of it, the brilliant There She Goes, but the Lee
Mavers led Liverpool band had far more than one classic song on that LP.
TIMELESS MELODY is one of them. It was released as a single in
September 1990. Five star pop quality! Here’s that elevating gem…

‘Timeless’ Melody’ by THE LA’S
It was not only about ‘There She Goes‘. The Liverpool’s THE LA’S had several
top tunes of which ‘Timeless Melody‘ is one of them. The song appeared on
their self-titled Debut Album Released as a 7″ single on 3 September 1990.
B-side: ‘Clean Prophet.’
The melody always finds me
Whenever the thought reminds me
Breaking a chain inside my head
The melody chord unwinds me
The rhythm of life unties me
Brushing the hands of time away
