Album Tracks That Should Have Been Singles – ‘YOUR SILENT FACE’ by NEW ORDER (1983)

27 November 2024

Band: NEW ORDER

Album: POWER CORRUPTION AND LIES (1983)
Their second one. Released in 1983. Along
with Low-Life my favourite NO LP.

Track: YOUR SILENT FACE

The melodramatic synths, Bernard Sumner‘s dreamy vocals
and melodic melodica, Hooky‘s atmospheric bass moments.
All ingredients for a single are present here in this glistening
pearl of a tune.

Album Tracks That Should Have Been Singles – ‘BORN AS GHOSTS’ By RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE (1999)

Band: RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE

Album: THE BATTLE OF LOS ANGELES
Their 3rd one, released 25 years ago,
on 2 November 1999. No. 1 in the US.
3 singles: Guerilla Radio, Sleep Now In
The Fire
and Testify.

Track: BORN AS GHOSTS

The hills find peace, locked armed guard posts
Safe from the screams of the children born as ghosts
Gates guns and alarms, shape the calm of the dawn
Peering down into the basin where death lives on
When young run foaming at the mouth with hate
When burning batons beat the freezing who shake
Under the toxic sunsets they dine and toast
Of walls deny the terror faced
By the children born as ghosts

Born as ghosts
A warning, you sufferers, begin to speak our word
Born as ghosts
A warning, you sufferers, begin to speak our word
Born as ghosts

Album Tracks That Should Have Been Singles – ‘BIONIC’ By PLACEBO (1996)

23 October 2024

Band: PLACEBO
London‘s internationally lauded veteran post-punk-pop act – glamorous
singer/guitarist Brian Molko and bassist Stefan Olsdal – who celebrate
their 20th anniversary this year.

Album: PLACEBO
Self-titled debut,
released in 1996.
Track: BIONIC

The record label put out 5 singles: Come Home, 36 Degrees, Teenage Angst,
Nancy Boy
and Bruise Pristine. Nancy Boy was by far the best of the pack. But
to my ears Bionic deserved the silver single medal, because of the ripper’s
spellbinding guitar hooks.
