British indie rockers BLOC PARTY, led by the vibrant Kele Okereke, released their second album WEEKEND IN THE CITY, recorded in Ireland, ten years ago, on 24 January 2007. A great follow-up to the band’s high-quality debut album Silent Alarm. It went to number two on the UK albums chart and peaked at number twelve the US. Here’s my favourite track
‘I Still Remember‘…

You can read a great review by Pitchfork here while listening to the weekend in full…

To Hell With Blue Mondays – Go Completely Nuts With… THE CRAMPS

Weekly firework to splinter Blue Mondays into a thousand pieces…

bluemondayremedy

Back in October 1991 I went all the way to London to see the fabulous and legendary rockabilly punks THE CRAMPS for the very first time after missing them, unwanted, on several occasions before in my native country Belgium. They played a series of seven (if
my memory is right) concerts, including a Halloween special, in the cosy 2000-capacity
The Town And Country Club (where I also witnessed a superb Oasis in 1994 – a month before releasing their debut LP, with the venue’s name changed to the ‘Forum‘ by then)
in the north of England‘s capital. A red-hot gig to remember and archived as ‘howling rock
& roll rapture
‘. Smashing fun! And the freaks still are an ideal band to kick Blue Mondays
straight in the face. Here’s some ace footage from 1986, when they performed on the
now legendary British live TV show The Tube (1982-1987). C’mon, Poison, guitar…

ARCADE FIRE feat. MAVIS STAPLES – Here’s New Funky Anti-Trump Track ‘I GIVE YOU POWER’…

Fresh electrifying impulses for your ears…

ARCADE FIRE just released new track I GIVE YOU POWER featuring the legendary soul singer and civil rights activist MAVIS STAPLES on vocals. An obvious anti-Trump manifesto. The new song was accompanied by a message on behalf of the band & Staples: “It’s never been more important that we stick together & take care of each other.” All proceeds of the song go to ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union). Here’s the cool vibe. It funks like hell. Play it really loud, so they can hear it in Washington D.C.

20 January 2017 – A Black Day For Human Solidarity… Worldwide

trackday1

20 January 2017 – The Lunatics Have Taken Over The Asylum by FUN BOY THREE

amercia

It’s a black day for all of us, worldwide, who believe and understand that solidarity is the
one & only way to survive decently, in peace and harmony, and are now confronted with an Idiot as President of the USA. The 1981 prophecy of FUN BOY THREE has become sad reality today. Shame, bloody shame! But I’ll keep on listening to great music, it helps…

THE LUNATICS HAVE TAKEN OVER THE ASYLUM

I see a clinic full of cynics
Who want to twist the peoples’ wrist
They’re watching every move we make
We’re all included on the list

The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum

No nuclear the cowboy told us
And who am I to disagree
’cause when the madman flips the switch
The nuclear will go for me

The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum

I’ve seen the faces of starvation
But I just can not see the points
’cause there’s so much food here today
That no one wants to take away

The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum – take away my right to choose
The lunatics have taken over the asylum – take away my point of view
The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum – take away my dignity,
Take these things away from me
The lunatics have taken over the asylum
The lunatics have taken over the asylum – take away my family,
Take away the right to speak
The lunatics have taken over the asylum take away my point of view,
Take away my right to choose

BLUR – British No 1 Single ‘BEETLEBUM’ Released 20 Years Ago…

Looking back in time… memorable moments in sonic history!

‘Beetlebum’ by BLUR

blur

Twenty years ago – 20 January 1997 – BLUR released the first single of their 5th, eponymous, album. Frontman/songwriter Damon Albarn revealed afterwards that BEETLEBUM was about using heroin with his former girlfriend Justine Frischmann (Elastica‘s frontwoman). He called the track lazy and sexy. I never experienced
heroin but that’s how that British number one hit precisely felt & still feels today.

After Six Years – GORILLAZ Back With New Track… HALLELUJAH MONEY

trackday1

‘Hallelujah Money’ by GORILLAZ – 19 January 2017

gorillaz

After six years GORILLAZ, the greatest cartoon band ever, featuring Damon Albarn, probably the busiest musician ever, and illustrator Jamie Hewlett, is back with brand
new track HALLELUJAH MONEY featuring British singer Benjamin Clementine and
snippets of Albarn‘s voice. The song is a moody, slow-moving ballad about business,
power and humanity. Yes, frightening thoughts on Donald Trump‘s tenure we are
about to suffer, unfortunately. It’s no coincidence that the song is released one day
before that idiot’s inauguration as 45th President of the U.S.A. The creepy images
projected in the clip behind Clementine visualize the troubled days we’ll have to face…

Here is our tree
That primitively grows
When we go to bed
Scare crows from the Far a-East
Come to eat its tender fruits
I have thought that the
Best way to protect our tree
Is by building walls
Walls like unicorns in full glory and galore
Even stronger than the walls of Jericho
Be glad then my friend
That in a few
We shall reap abundantly
What we’d always dreamt of havin
Enough of the starvin
It is love
That is the root of all evil
Not our tree
And thank you my friend
For trusting me

Hallelujah Money
Hallelujah Money

How will we know
When the morning comes
We are still humanz.
How will we know?
How will we dream?
How will we love?
How will we know?

Don’t worry my friend
If this be the end
Then so shall it be
Until we say so
Nothing will move
Ah, don’t worry
It is not against our morals
It’s legally tender
Touch my friend
What the whole world, and whole beasts of nations desire: power

Hallelujah Money
Cross the chemtrail sun
