Legends TALKING HEADS Released Their Final Album ‘NAKED’ 30 Years Ago…

Going back in sonic history looking for memorable albums…

14 March 2018

ALBUM: NAKED – their eight and last LP

RELEASED: 15 March 1988 – 30 years ago…

ROLLING STONE wrote: “What Byrne sees is a world in chaos, endangered by political madness, torn between animal instincts and the urge to civilize, teetering on the edge of apocalypse. As the album progresses, its mood shifts from cheerful to foreboding. Stylistically bold and intellectually provocative, ‘Naked’ is a dizzying and disturbing piece of work. The Chinese proverb “If there is no tiger in the mountains, the monkey will be king” is printed on the jacket of Naked, and a framed portrait of a monkey adorns the cover. The human race consists of some pretty cool people, Naked seems to be saying, but it’s got a very destructive monkey on its back. Human survival is not guaranteed. With humor and good-hearted-ness, hope and fear, Talking Heads contemplate a world on the eve of destruction on this important record — and leave wide open the question of what the dawn will bring.”

TURN UP THE VOLUME says: “The Apocalypse started 30 years ago according to this heavily mixed emotions album. Talking Heads made a fiesta-sounding record to go along with the fall of humankind party. It’s scary that this final Heads’ LP is relevant again today!”

THREE HIGHLIGHTS: (Nothing But) Flowers / Blind / Democratic Circus
