BOB DYLAN AND THE BAND – Americana Masterpiece ‘THE BASEMENT TAPES’ Came Out 45 Years Ago

25 June 2020

Artists: Bob Dylan and The Band
Album: The Basement Tapes  – a double longplayer
Released: 26 June 1975 – 45 years ago – Dylan’s 16th LP
Artwork: the cover picture was taken by Reid Miles
in the basement of a Los Angeles YMCA
Score: #7 in the USA AND #8 in the UK

Rolling Stone said at the time: “The songs are home music, barroom music played for pleasure and for the hell of it by and for musicians with a shared experience outsiders
may not fully understand… the music and lyrics snarled and spit out of the corners of one’s mouth… these were inspired times, and Dylan and the Band could as well have been singing and playing the telephone book.”
Full review here.

Key phrase: this is what happens when icon Bob Dylan and
his phenomenal backing band make Americana great again
Key tracks: too many to name

Here’s Funk & Groove Trio MILK TV And Their New Mental Single ‘ONE LEG PERFORMER’

Daily fuel to load your sonic batteries…

.

25 June 2020

Brussels punk/pop/no wave trio MILK TV is the colorful universe where singer/bass
player Matthieu Peyraud (also know from Phoenician Drive, Triviale Beauté, Schyzoglass) gets rid of his nasty demons. The power three-piece feeds on playground nostalgia, cheep TV programs and a good dose of post-Reagan cynicism to bring some jerky and raucous pieces of rock music Their debut album Good Men For Mean Kids hit the streets
on 2nd October.

Ahead of it comes first single ONE LEG PERFORMER. The song is an “Ode to the cash
cow and to adolescence, this song stands as a musical treaty on friendship and derision
as a bulwark against the absurdities of our world.”

Expect a mental funk and groove haymaker kicking your lazy ass from the get-go.
It’s a one-leg-dance invitation for your friends and a firm middle finger to this
fucked-up world. A Gang Of Four influenced riff ripper for Devo fans, a bass injected
crackhammer for post-punk addicts. Get up, stand up, and fight for your right to go bonkers on one leg right here, right now…

One Live Track A Day Keeps The Doctor Away – Here’s PEARL JAM

Last night – 24 June – several Seattle bands like Sleater-Kinney, Ben Gibbard, Brandi Carlile, The Head And The Heart, Macklemore, and Sir Mix-A-Lot played a virtual benefit concert for All In WA to raise money for Washington state’s COVID-19 relief effort.

Headliner was PEARL JAM. From their separate homes the band played DANCE OF THE CLAIRVOYANTS, a compelling highlight from their new album GIGATON. Eddie Vedder’s daughters were backup dancers, and former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer made a surprise appearance.

SIRKUT SON With New Single ‘YOU HAVE USED ME FOR LONG ENOUGH’

24 June 2020

Artist: SIRKUT SON

Who: The multi-media project of John Rooney, the Derry-born, Berlin-based musician and illustrator who formally released music under the mantle Haüer via Future City Records. His debut album Photo Sensitive is an album of nine expansive futuristic songs which move away from Haüer’s instrumental hypnogogic-pop sound and into a darker, more foreboding cold-wave territory.

Track: YOU HAVE USED ME FOR LONG ENOUGH – “Lyrically the song is about picking up and leaving my life behind me in Dublin and venturing over to Berlin” – the first single from his upcoming debut album Photo Sensitive on 4 September

Score: Get ready to move and groove. ‘You Have Used Me For Long Enough’ is an elevating synth-pop humdinger with Rooney‘s arresting baritone voice bringing living legend Scott Walker instantly to mind. Moving from Dublin to Berlin, he wants to start again. Great vibe, great tune, great vox.
