Tower Of Sound – Boston Noise Dreamers MOTEL BLACK With New Smack ‘QUOTING THOREAU’

Daily fuel to load your sonic batteries…

29 October 2020

Band: MOTEL BLACK

Who: Firm noise band from Boston producing hook-laden rock, atmospheric and noisy soundscapes, embracing elements of post-punk, garage, doomy folk, and psych-rock.

Pick: QUOTING THOREAU

“I wrote this song three years ago while living in Dorchester’s Codman Square. As with most
of the songs that I write, they are about nothing and everything at the same time. What was swimming in my head when I wrote this – and is always there in one way or another – is the idea that change is cleansing and particularly in urban development,”
says Brian George (vocals, guitar)

Score: The towering wall-of-massive sound this Boston noise quartet produces is
huge, I repeat huge! From the Metallica-like ‘Nothing Else Matters’ intro on the intensity
and vehemence of this high-voltage passion stroke grows slowly but surely towards a sonic orgasm. Afire guitars, poignant vocals and an overall titanic orchestration with
an overwhelming effect. You’re out of breath when the track suddenly ends. Wow!

The pressure to build
The pressure to grow
Speaking to me
Is like quoting Thoreau
And every complaint
Deserves an excuse
And I wane

Bubble Pioneers THE FLAMING LIPS Shoot Spectacular Live Video For ‘ASSASSINS OF YOUTH’

Clips that will have an impact on your eyes and your ears…

28 October 2020

Weird coincidence? In recent years, as part of the fairytale-like concerts of THE FLAMING LIPS their wizard-frontman WAYNE COYNE squeezed himself in a sort of plastic bubble and rolled over the crowd while performing a song. Spectacular indeed, as I witnessed myself a few times. Little did the band know they would perform this stunt in 2020, live
for the making of a video, with 100 spectators each in their own bubble.

The short show was filmed at The Criterion in their hometown of Oklahoma City. One of
the songs they played was ASSASSINS OF YOUTH, a magical ballad from their recent, excellent album American Head.

Family Love Letters – Romantic KEVIN MORBY Already Back With Ballad ‘US MAIL’

New sonic impulses

28 October 2020

Just a few weeks ago Kansas City singer/songwriter and full-time
daydreamer KEVIN MORBY released new, heart-warming album
Sundowner.

And he’s already back with a new reverie called US MAIL.

“A song I wrote about a mother communicating with her daughter via the USPS
from within an inpatient rehab facility. Restricted from any forms of electronic
communication, the two must rely on postcards carried by the United States
Postal Service to reach one another.”

A touching beauty
