Band: CLOUD NOTHINGS
Who: Cleveland’s noise junks, led by
singer-songwriter Dylan Baldi, fooling
around with poppy edges.
Album: THE SHADOW I REMEMBER – 7th LP
Produced by Steve Albini.
Released: 26 February 2021
Info: The songs are kept trim, mostly around the three-minute mark,
while being gleefully overstuffed. Almost every musical part turns into
at least two parts, with guitar and drums opening up and the bass
switching gears. “That’s the goal—I want the three-minute song to be an
epic,” says frontman Baldi. “That’s the short version of the long-ass jam.”
Pitchfork verdict: “As the Cleveland band returns to Electrical Audio at full
force, they retain their penchant for rueful concision and world-weary chronicles
of pandemic existence.” Full review here. Score: 7/10.
Turn Up The Volume: If this would be their debut LP it would have another
impact on your ears. But as it’s the band’s 7th longplayer it feels like they repeat themselves over and over again, also they come closer and closer to Dinosaur Jr‘s
buzz and fuzz.
