his voice, his acoustic guitar and his harmonica (and occasionally at the piano),
recorded on his Journey Through The Past solo tour in early 1971. It’s spellbinding…
Everything on this recording, it’s just perfect.”

Yep, the Canadian troubadour still is delving deep in his basement, and as
long as he comes up with treasures like this I’m all ears. This heart-warming
solo performance – acoustic guitar and voice – including stupendous live
versions of some of his best ballads ever (Old Man, Helpless, The Needle
And The Damage Done, Down By The River) is just s-t-e-l-l-a-r. Fact!

Discover heartrending singer-songwriter LOU HENEISE, an American singer-songwriter with roots in the city of Chicago, the rolling farmland of the Midwest, and the Bible Belt of the South.

Her debut EP Trial & Error – as introspective and earnest as it is catchy, capturing the American heartbeat – arrives April 9th. Lead-single BAD DAY foretells that something special is coming. It’s a musing and touchy Americana daydream with Heneise‘s glowing voice drawing all the aural attention, although her galvanizing guitar play is pretty persuasive too. This is a sweet little pearl with an unwinding effect. A blue beauty.

about how fickle society is, and how it’s always ready to point the finger at something new.

Score: This 21st Century Bikini Kill team generates an overwhelming energy that immediately drags you into its furious development. And I’m sure this raging ripper
could trigger early Sioux Sioux memories of the moment she decided to become a
Goth Queen. She inspired and still inspires young girls all around the globe to do
what they wanna do and be who they wanna be.

Venus Grrrls also have that irreversible determination, that don’t -mess-with-me attitude,
that sassy swagger and a phenomenal vocal force to make you hear loud and clear who and what they wanted to be. Riot girl power all the way.

Album: The Joshua Three

The clip for the song, unquestionably inspired by The Beatles‘ legendary roof
performance in London in 1969, was shot on the roof of a store in downtown
Los Angeles (no idea why they didn’t go to New York, that’s THE city where the
streets have no names) on 27 March 1987. The shoot was ended by the police
when the traffic got stuck as hundreds of enthusiastic passers-by blocked the
streets. Rock ‘n’ roll!!

BLOC PARTY Mastermind KELE OKEREKE Reveals ‘SMALLTOWN BOY’ Cover

As Bloc Party enjoys a very long holiday (last album Hymns came
out 5 years ago) mastermind KELE OKEREKE goes his own way again…
for the fifth time. His new album The Waves Pt. 1 lands on May 28th.

Okereke: “I still had the desire to create… I knew I had to fill in the space of
this record entirely by myself, which was daunting but also very liberating.
This album is literally the sound of me.”

Last month he shared a trippy instrumental off the album, called
The Heart Of The Wave and here’s another taster. Actually a cover
of Bronski Beat‘s massive 1984 hit Smalltown Boy.

Okereke‘s slowed the song down, minimized the sonic orchestration,
just a guitar and synth echoes, and gives it a heartbroken touch with
his affective falsetto voice. Wonderful!

modern society of their gnarly fourth record. They still pack
a punch, but now the bruise is more colourful… ‘Is 4 Lovers’
is surely the band’s best work since their debut. And while
they may never feel that vital again, they make right now

Turn Up The Volume: The masters of drone rock are back, and they’re
getting better over the years. Gigantic fuzz and buzz jackhammers but
also some softer – yes, since they became fathers they let their heart &
soul speak/play more – stuff. This stunning work will end up on many
end-of-the-year lists.

BECK Remixes MACCA

Last December, beetle Paul McCartney released his acclaimed
McCartney III LP, a follow-up to his 1970 solo debut McCartney
and 1980’s McCartney II.

A re-worked version, titled McCartney III Imaged, with covers and
remixes by a notable list of guests such as Damon Albarn, Blood Orange,
Phoebe Bridgers, St. Vincent, Beck, Anderson, Paak, Idris Elba, Khruangbin,
Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien, Josh Homme & more, will be out 16 April.

Beck also joined the party. He remixed the track Find My Way.
