THE STROKES Reveal New Song ‘STARTING AGAIN’ Written For NYC’s Mayoralty Candidate MAYA MILEY

22 June 2021

New York City idols THE STROKES are responsible for making one of the best albums of 2020 with THE NEW ABNORMAL (including epic ballad Ode To The Mets which I played about a million times, so far).

The band announced about a month ago that they support Maya Wiley, the democratic candidate for mayoralty in NYC (pre-elections today!). They already played a couple of fundraising concerts for her.

And now Julian Casablancas & co shared brand new song called STARTING AGAIN
that is added to a Wiley campaign advertisement. The instant striking stroke was written
by Casablancas and Gregg Alexander (frontman of New Radicals, who reunited early this year).

Casablancas and Alexander in a joint statement: “In an era of voter suppression and mega donors dismantling democracy, it’s crucial to remember New York City is too important to risk handing the reins of America’s most diverse metropolis to the same kind of party machine that’s controlled NY’s governance for most of the 20th century… one of Brooklyn clubhouse politics, big real-estate money, and mutual back-scratching. It is time we elect Maya as the city’s first woman mayor to make things better for ALL of our futures.”
