New striking strokes
13 December 2021
Band: NAPALM DEATH (US/UK)
Who: Grindcore/death metal addicts
Active: 1981-present / 16 studio LPs (so far)
New album: RESENTMENT IS ALWAYS SEISMIC – A FINAL THROW OF THROES
You can’t blame them for coming up with lazy album titles. This new one,
only 29 minutes long, is a partner recording to their 2020 LP Throes of Joy
in the Jaws of Defeatism with tracks from those sessions and 2 covers.
Out: 11 February 2021 via Century Media Records
Mark “Barney” Greenway (frontman): “In the end, resentment
is certainly seismic — it can trigger the complete erosion of humanity
in many situations. That was the point that I really wanted to hammer
home overall.”
Lead single: NARCISSUS
Greenway: “It was written at a time when the ‘alt-right’ was parading itself
around, so, lyrically, I like to think it exposes the vanity and personality cult
of that whole thing.”
I wonder how loudmouth vocalist Greenway (member since 1992) still can
produce that monstrous growling clamour after 29 years. And what do his
neighbors think about it?
Release the bats…
Anecdote: According to the Guinness World Records
the band’s song (?) You Suffer is the shortest one ever
recorded. Only 1.316 seconds long.
