TY SEGALL Drums His Tail Off On Docu Tune ‘THE STORY OF THE CENTURY’

25 January 2022

Two years ago, director Matt Yoka’s documentary Whirlybird premiered
at the Sundance Film Festival. The docu shows the adventures of two video
journalists, Zoey Tur and Marika Gerrard soaring above the chaotic spectacle
of ’80s and ’90s Los Angeles, including the OJ Simpson  chase in 1994.

Whirlybird still hasn’t gone into wide release, but the
film’s soundtrack by the tireless Ty Segall is on its way.

Taster The Story Of The Century is a totally surprising piece.
A puzzling and forceful drums-driven instrumental sounding like
recorded in the jungle. Without any announcement, you would
never know who cobbled this oddity together.

Here comes the chopper tune…

Happy B. To JCC

British performance poet JOHN COOPER CLARKE
was born 73 years ago Salford, Lancashire.

Happy B. to JCC!

He enjoyed his heyday in the punk era, late 70s and early 80s,
collaborating with several punk bands now and then.

He fabricated several EPs and 6 studio LPs between 1978 and 1981
and released a covers album with former Stranglers frontman Hugh
Cornwell
in 2016. The utterly cool weirdo is still going strong
(UK/Ireland tour this spring).

Bring it on, JCC…

Join The Trance Trip Of SOLILIANS On Their New EP ‘AMERICAN KLEZMISCHE’

24 January 2022

Band: SOLILIANS
Who: Jewish mystics/drone/space pop explorers from Merrick, US.

EP: American Klezmische

Second installment of the In The Running series by I Heart Noise, the Boston
label that thinks out of the box promoting musicians who think out of the box.

Turn Up The Volume: I guess we can all can use some relaxing and tranquilizing moments, now and then, to get away from all that mind-oppressive pandemic misery.

Let’s start to relax with the first two tracks Old Schmeckled Hen and Noshville. Two magnetizing meditations that cause a trance-like sensation with its repetitive flow
and a hypnotic clawhammer banjo riff sounding like a sitar to my ears.

Tracks 3 and 4 (Stratoshmear and Klezmische) generates a similar effect but have
a different, more upbeat texture with its spirited harmonies and keep up the bracing balance of this extended play.

Someday soon change will come.
Humankind always found a way to survive.

Positive vibes like these are welcome…

Mosh Pit Ferociousness – Chicago Misfits WRONG WAR Rage And Blaze On Their New Album

24 January 2022

Band: WRONG WAR (Chicago, Illinois)

Who: Seasoned punks who got together in 2019. While influenced by the Chicago
and Detroit scenes they came up in, certainly gives a nod to classic DC punk and the Dischord Records releases of that time. Early on, the band has drawn direct comparisons
to Crucifix, Battalion of Saints, and Born Against. They play blistering, politically-charged punk rock in a time when we need it most. Their debut album Fixed Against Forever
was released digitally in 2020 on Election Day. Discover it on Bandcamp.

New album: ONCE UPON A WEAPON

Turn Up The Volume: Hell bloody hell yeah! All clamorous cylinders are on from start
to finish. With manic screaming and shouting, tortured guitars blaring, and supersonic steamrolling Wrong War causes an instant mosh pit ferociousness.

Holy hardcore shit!

With their very loud and very clear rage and blaze, with their rapid-fire resistance
and with their flat-out spits and sneers they attack all corrupt politicians, all greedy capitalist sharks, all intolerant idiots, and the whole merciless war industry that mess
up society for their own rapacious agendas and for their me, myself and I benefits.

Middle-finger to all bloodsuckers!

TAYLOR SWIFT Is Global Ambassador Of RECORD STORE DAY 2022

24 January 2022

Record Store Day 2022 will take place on the 23rd of April.

The RSD board chose TAYLOR SWIFT as Global Ambassador
for this year’s edition. Why? For promotional reasons of course,
but some things that happened recently were taken into account
to nominate Swift.

1/ Last year, for the first time in 30 years more vinyl records than CDs
were sold. Swift had three of the year’s 10 best-selling LPs (mostly sold
via record stores).

2/ At the start of the global pandemic, Swift paid the salary and the healthcare
costs for employees at the Nashville emporium Grimey’s. I know it didn’t make
her poor of course, but it was a cool gesture.

3/ She sent signed copies of her album folklore to independent record stores.

And in the end, if the face/name of a big star can give the event more visibility
and attention, we can’t argue with the marketing strategy for the event.
Record Stores can use a much-needed push in the back any time.

Taylor Swift: “I’m very proud to be this year’s Global Ambassador for Record Store Day.
The places where we go to browse and explore and discover music new and old have always been sacred to me. Record stores are so important because they help to perpetuate and foster music-loving as a passion. They employ people who adore music thoroughly and purely. Those people and shops have had a rough few years and we need to support these small businesses more now than ever to make sure they can stay alive, stay eccentric, and stay individual.
Happy Record Store Day, everyone! Stay safe out there.”

released praised albums 50 years ago today…

Album: YOUNG GIFTED AND BLACK – 18th LP
Released: 24 January 1972

AllMusic said: “It’s nearly impossible to single out any of Aretha Franklin’s
early 70s albums for Atlantic as being her best, particularly given the breadth
of her output during this era.”
Score: 4.5/5.

TUTV: One of those immortal voices sounding/feeling

Album: PAUL SIMON – 2nd LP
Released: 24 January 1972

AllMusic wrote: “You didn’t miss Art Garfunkel on Paul Simon,
not only because Simon didn’t write Garfunkel-like showcases
for himself, but because the songs he did write showed off his
own, more varied musical strengths.”
Score: 5/5.

Amazing Artwork! New Album ‘MON ODYSSEE’ By Canadian Dungeon Synth Artist FRAZYL

Eye-catching artwork for ear-catching music

23 January 2022

Artist: FRAZYL (Québec, Canada)

Who: The solo project of Jérôme R. Desrosiers, who played
drums in different Black Metal and Death Metal in the late 90s.
He’s making synth music for about 20 years now, but it’s only
since 2018 that he decided to share his work.

FFO: Mortiis, Erang, Klaus Schulz, Dead Can Dance,
Burzum, Wongraven, Pink Floyd, Brian Eno

New album: MON ODYSSEE

FRAZYL: “The Mon Odyssée concept is inspired by Homer’s epic poem Odyssee.
Not only the Greek mythology is explored in this album but Celtic and Nordic ones
too. It’s based in the wild winter lands formerly called Nouvelle-France where my
ancestors settled centuries ago. Every song is driven by the philosophical and
mystical aspects that those myths and ancestral history inspired me. Mon Odyssée
is created as a progressive soundtrack. It begins with an introspective atmosphere
and it builds up toward a more epic ambience. Exploring different styles, from
Neoclassical, to Dungeon Synth and Dark Ambient, this journey invites you to let
yourself be carried away in music through European heritage.”

Sit down, relax and open your
mind for an imaginative journey…
