ANTI-FLAG: “The album itself is the first conceptual album the band has ever done, spawned out of a compulsive need to not just comment on the dystopian corporate wasteland we all face but to trace it back to the origin of this fate; the political policies, laws, cultural shifts, and lineage of injustice that have led us to the world we live in today. Like the band itself, of course the album is an anti-war statement both in the literal and figurative sense. This is an important moment in history and demands an urgent response, but we thought it was also important that we retrace our footsteps to the beginning of these issues. In order to better understand how to eradicate climate devastation, imperialism, war based economics, systems predicated upon racism, and the increasing belief that these things do not even exist, you have got to take people to the source. This idea is the crux of The Lies They Tell Our Children; put this wretched history in their face and demand their empathy.”

British Alt Rock Trio VERRA CRUZ Affect With Melancholic Power Ballad ‘THE WORLD IS CRASHING IN’

Band: VERRA CRUZ
Who: British alt-rock infused musical project of trio Marc James (guitar/lap steel/vocals), Henry Cross (bass) & Jimmy Cooke (drums). Known for their hard-hitting anthems and signature lap steel guitar, of which they stumbled upon in a small boutique guitar shop in Memphis, TN, the three-piece band have been creating mighty, raucous tracks, laced with spiritual and personal themes. The band admits, “We’re not afraid to sing out about injustice in the world.”

New single: THE WORLD IS CRASHING IN

It’s a gripping ode to love, loss and simply raw emotion.

Marc James (guitar/vocalist): “The World Is Crashing In” was written during the painful season of Henry’s divorce. It was tough going for all of us to watch 2 people we loved dearly, separate. For me it brought up painful memories from my own childhood. The second verse was written from a time in my own childhood. Our family home had been flooded due to a burst pipe, it wrecked so much stuff including my mum’s wedding dress that she had kept. It seemed like a dark and apt metaphor for the impending carnage of what was to come.”

TUTV: The magic thing about this wonderfully melancholic power ballad is the sonic balance at play. No over-the-top orchestrations, no sugary melodrama, no macho guitar solos. This gem’s profound sentiments are expressed with tenderness and heart-and-soul tristesse. The guitars don’t screech, they weep gently. James’ vocals are not inordinate, but sincere, emotive, and for real. The World Is Crashing In is a moony sepia-colored symphony.

Boring – RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS Can’t Stop Repeating Themselves

The Californian heroes released their 2nd double LP of the year a few weeks ago.
It’s called Return Of The Dream Canteen and it sounds as a collection of songs
that didn’t make their last 5 or so longplayers.

To make sure that everyone agrees on that, they lifted a new single
off the double LP. It’s named The Shape I’m Takin’ and it’s boring.

Celebrating The 80th Birthday Of JIMI HENDRIX With New High-Quality Live Album ‘LOS ANGELES FORUM – 1969’

The late trailblazing guitar virtuoso James Marshall, known by generations of rock fans
as JIMI HENDRIX would have celebrated his 80th birthday. He was born on 27 November 1942. To celebrate the event a new live album named LOS ANGELES FORUM April 26, 1969 came out last week.

Recorded in the spring of 1969 before a raucous sold-out audience, this captivating
L.A. Forum show by the original JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE with drummer Mitch
Mitchell and bassist Noel Redding, has never before been released in its entirety.

The LP was recorded by Wally Heider and Bill Halverson contemporaneously and remixed by Eddie Kramer (MC5). It was produced by Janie Hendrix, CEO of Experience Hendrix, L.L.C. and the sister of Jimi. The package’s liner notes are by former LA Times staff writer/critic Randy Lewis with a preface by ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons who attended the Los Angeles Forum show, having toured with the Experience, as part of The Moving Sidewalks, his pre-ZZ Top band.

ZZ TOP‘s Billy Gibson was there.

There’s also an accompanying illustrated booklet, 24-pages
in the CD release and 12-pages in the 2LP release.

TUTV: Unfold could be easily a reverie from 90s British dreamers The Sundays.
Carmen Hatton‘s vox resonates somehow similar to The Sundays‘ heartfelt vocalist
Harriet Wheeler‘s vulnerable voice and the overall sonority of Not Happy echoes the
popular romantics too. The sense is both starry-eyed and somber, spirited and
gloom-ridden. Post-lockdown blues.

The Late Genius LOU REED Released Imperishable Classic ‘WALK ON THE WILD SIDE’ 50 Years Ago

Standout singles from the past

The late genial singer-songwriter-rocker-performer LOU REED released
his imperishable signature classic WALK ON THE WILD SIDE (almost
370 million streams on Spotify) than 50 years ago, on 24 November 1972.

It was released along with that other masterstroke Perfect Day (more than
1962 million streams on Spotify) as a double A-side single. Both songs were
taken from Reed’s Transformer LP produced by David Bowie and Mick Ronson.

Laurie Anderson about ‘Walk On The Wild Side’:
“It has the best bass line ever to push a pop song.”

The song peaked at #10 in the UK and #16 in the USA but kept
on selling over the years as it was re-released a couple of times.

Take a walk once more, Lou.
