Swedish Post-Punk-Groove Sax Turbine VIAGRA BOYS Shake And Bake ANTWERP

17 December 2022

Band: VIAGRA BOYS
Who: Kooky post-punk squad from Stockholm, Sweden
fronted by wicked tattoo artist Sebastian Murphy
Albums (so far): Street Worms (2018), Welfare Jazz (2021)
and Cave World (2022)

If you never heard of these Swedish hooligans start here with
one of the master blaster singles off the new LP. Ain’t No Thief.

Concert: Trix Venue, Antwerp – Belgium
When: 12 December 2022

Never taught that this VB gig would top everything I heard/saw this year. I saw them live one time before (2019), I have/know their records (sounds like I am a fan), so I expected fireworks, oh yes, but not as red-hot-blistering as this smashing riff-manic spectacle.

So why is this Turn Up the Volume’s best concert of 2022?

Viagra Boys are a non-stop steamrollin’ post-punk groove turbine who leave all they have in their tank on the floor. No brakes, no breaks, no mistakes. Even when tattoo-frontman Sebastian Murphy is laying down on the floor, on his fat belly, for a poetic burst the jump-up-and-down party goes on and on.

Oh my, oh my, what a mental gang this is. The saxophone and keyboard men climb up anything they can climb up, turning the scorching heat to the max and triggering the whole Swedish orchestra to start some mind-blowing psych jams. Nutty! Steamy! Crazy! Filthy! Sturdy! In the end, the roof goes flying. AWESOME!

Here’s a rough idea of VB’s shake-and-bake turbulence, stage-diving, selfies on stage
and a wacko moshpit included, in Utrecht, The Netherlands 2 days before the Antwerp show.

12 glorious minutes to watch in full.
