Daily electricity to load your batteries

29 January 2023

Band: RONKER
Who: Poignant 4-piece
from Belgium.

Pick: SHAME Their newest single.
Part of an upcoming EP, out in April.

TUTV: The distress of English outfit The Murder Capital and the anger
of American hardcore bulldozer Fucked Up. Oh yes, intense, indeed.

Shame is a sharp-cutting razor blade. A severe cry-out that you expect to erupt
any second. The vocalist’s pipes sound creepy and desperate. Flipped-out guitars,
a manic drum/bass tandem, and an ominous sonic progression grab you by the
throat from the first spin on. Post-punk at its disturbed best.

Impressive piece.
Impressive video.

Quote Of The Day – ROD STEWART About The Tories In New Interview

Sir Rod Stewart called into a Sky News live phone-in offering to donate money for patient scans after hearing stories from callers about their issues trying to access treatment in the NHS. The musician said it was “ridiculous” people were waiting so long for treatment and said he would like to donate money to pay for “10 or 20 scans” for those who called in.

He wants the Tories to quit.

Soulful Sunday With GIRL WITH A HAWK And Her Heart-And-Soul Touching Story ‘SAME STARS’

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

29 January 2023

Band: GIRL WITH A HAWK
Who: Singer/songwriter Linda Viens‘collective of
Boston rock legends producing gorgeously emotive
indie rock with Americana, garage, and punk roots.

New single: SAME STARS
Their first for Red On Red Records .

Info: In 1998 Linda Vien’s brother was arrested for armed robbery. A long-time
heroin addict, he had used a toy gun wrapped in a bandanna to rob a convenience
store. He was sentenced to 11 years in a Federal Prison, and had to leave his wife and his two young children behind. He was released in 2010. During his time in prison Linda drove from Boston monthly to visit him During those visits, Linda witnessed the devastation of her brother’s separation from his young family and witnessed firsthand the damage and pain caused by long term, and in some cases, unjust incarceration.

Same Stars was written from her brother’s point of view; from a sister’s vantage point of empathy and sorrow in identification with his daily suffering, shame, regret and grief. In the end of the song, as in the end of the story, he is released into the world a free man who has paid his debt to society, and who must find his family again and begin the long journey of reconciliation and healing.

Same Stars is a heart-and-soul touching story, a longing ballad,
a bittersweet siblings love-inspired reverie with Linda Viens‘s moving
voice sending shivers down your spine. Stirring.

But you see the same stars as me
And someday your daddy will be free
And we’ll ride through the night,
And everything will be alright,
you’ll see, you’ll see

R.I.P. – TELEVISION Mastermind/Guitarist/Singer TOM VERLAINE Dead At 73

29 January 2023

TOM VERLAINE, born Thomas Miller in Denville, New Jersey
73 years ago died yesterday following a brief illness.

He began studying piano at an early age but switched to saxophone in middle school after hearing a record by Stan Getz. Verlaine initially was unimpressed with the role of the guitar in both rock music and jazz but was inspired to take up the instrument after hearing the Rolling Stones’ “19th Nervous Breakdown” during his adolescence.

In 1973 he went to New York and formed groundbreaking new-punk-wave
TELEVISION
with Richard Hell as a one-time member. Verlaine‘s guitar play
was astounding and defined the band’s electrical sound.

They only recorded/released 2 LPs. Their innovative 1977 debut Marquee Moon
and follow-up Adventure a year later. They split up shortly after but reunited later,
1991–1993 / 2001–present.

Verlaine had a successful solo career too with several
albums and collaborated with numerous other artists.
