Baltimore‘s trippy 4-piece ANIMAL COLLECTIVE (active since 2003 / 11 studio LPs)
released their most recent longplayer with Time Skiffs in February last year.
They kept busy writing movie scores, working with other artists,
an a remastered reissue of their debut album Spirit They’ve Gone, Spirit
They’ve Vanished that featured some previously unreleased material.
And now they come up with a new piece named DEFEAT
A 22-minute ambient symphony, bringing sound-explorer Brian Eno to mind. It’ll be released on 12″.
Last month they released the track on 12″ with another new
one as B-side. A beats-booster baptized All Of A Sudden.
And the bros aren’t done yet. They just dropped another new piece named LIVE AGAIN. Rumours tell us that an album is coming later this year. But first
this new e-tastic shot. The Chems were never dead to me and my ears, they kept
coming back and back again over the years. And today they’re alive once again
with the assistance of French artist Halo Maud on vocals.
The three Las Vegas Kropp brothers, musically known as PALAYE ROYALE
have been screaming around since 2008. Last year they launched their 4th
longplayerFever Dream.
To heat up their summer they now shared
a collaborative crusher with Russian rebellious
grrrls Pussy Riot.
DEBILITATE is actually not new-new as the track
appeared, exclusively, on the Japanese edition of
the Fever Dream LP last year.
Anyway, now we can all enjoy this
rush of blood to the head.
The voice and face of post-punk blues band THE GUN CLUBwould have
celebrated his 65th birthday today. Unfortunately, he died from a blood
clot on his brain in 1996,
aged only 37.
To remember him, here’s one of my most beloved The Gun Club songs. CRY TO ME from the stellar Lucky Jim LP that came out in 1993.
THE HU is a Mongolian folk metal band formed in 2016. They became a spectacle
for ears and eyes over the years. Their 2nd album, baptized Rumble Of Thunder
earned them several spots on major festivals this years.
Last month they were on the bill of the legendary Dutch PINKPOP FESTIVAL.
If you never heard of this sensational act (like me, until a couple of weeks ago)
watch/hear them performing 3 metallic and yes, catchy, jackhammers.

On the seventh day of the week – almost 3 years ago – God decided to entertain
all people suffering in lockdown due to the awful Covid-19 pandemic. He called famous wife/husband rockers TOYAH WILLCOX and ROBERT FRIPP (King Crimson) and asked them to figure something out on Sunday, the holy day, that would make people happy.
Enter the Sunday Lunch Sessions with Toyah and Robert covering classics while going mental in their kitchen every week. Due to its spectacular success and by huge popular demand the show is still running, even hitting the road next Fall.
This edition is pretty creamy and punky and messy and
ends with an invitation to hug the sunshine of your love,
with or without cream.
In order to not miss a beat Turn Up The Volume scans the musical
horizon daily (doing it for years now, actually) to stay in touch with
all new things sonically great and shares the results on a weekly
basis.
Check the 10 new rad cuts just
added to this rad 2023 playlist.
Michael Gira and his Swans love to play around in your brain with psychedelic jams.
This is what happens here again with this sneaky serpent of a track from their new
mind-boggling album The Beggar.
A mindfucker from Phoenix desert rockers’ new LP, titled Imperfectionists, landing
this Friday. Sick guitars, flipped-out bass/drum thwacks, and biting vocals combine
for a Sturm und Drang groove that creeps under your skin.
The 2nd single from an upcoming EP (‘Citrus Magic’, out 28 July) by this Toronto psychotic gang. Expect a mid-tempo banger stoked up by schizophrenic guitars zigzagging their way around a catching melody/chorus. Think King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard.
Primo psych-pop track from these British indie rockers’ new album Thrift Store Troubadours. Read all about in their interview with Turn Up The Volume, right here.
This ElectroSpank duo from Poland launched their 3rd notable LP, named Hard Times earlier this year and is now followed by this new single Endless Game. A haunting, enigmatic and absolute top thrill.
The Irish electronic beep-bleep expert Richard David James aka Aphex Twin
drops a new 4-track EP next month. This is a smooth appetizer. An ambient
piece that’s actually quite melodic and infectious, the AT way that is.
Following their splendid debut EP Perspectives, released last January this Brussels‘
guitar pop act returns with this feel-good tune with an electric-powered finale. An
ode to freedom, a call to break free from the monotony and explore new horizons.
Last year Leicester’s rock heroes KASABIAN returned with their triumphant comeback
LP The Alchemist’s Euphoria, without their flamboyant frontmanTom Meighan who left the band following mental and personal problems. Singer-songwriterSerge Pizzorno who already sung on Kasabian songs before is now the group’s full-time vocalist.
To warm up for a hot festival summer they released, recently, a brand-new
song named ALGORITHMS. It sounds a bit like an amplified pop lullaby with
a striking sing-along chorus. Score!
