British Electrical Post-Punk Engine EGYPTIAN BLUE Build A Wall-Of-Deranged Guitar Turmoil Sound On New Corker ‘SKIN’

New striking strokes

20 July 2023

Band: EGYPTIAN BLUE
Who: Rowdy post-punk
unit from Brighton, UK.

New single: SKIN

The 3rd shared cut (all 3 songs together below) from their upcoming
debut LP A Living Commodity. Out on 27 October. Pre-order info here.

TUTV: Another up and coming post-Brexshit-punk hit team that you can
add to the by now notable British sharp-teethed bands such as Crows, LIFE,
Black Midi, Ditz, Opus Kink, Lice, Silverbacks, Lambrini Girl
s and many more.

Skin is a stop-start blitz of riff-roaring razzmatazz propelled by a riot-gun drummer,
an army of barbed wire guitars and biting vocals. Wowzers. This serrated edged stunner actives your nerves and your muscles. You’ll end up out of breath, but damn, it’s totally worth it.

Pragmatic in the world
I come out unscathed
Every time I turn a face
Can’t operate with a tick
But I don’t want to wear this skin anymore
Never a prowess to entitle
Happiness comes out a rifle then it’s done
Follow all uniform
I used to have an outfit
But now we’re worn
Where the fuck is my car ?

Can’t operate with a tick
But I don’t want to wear this skin anymore

Get puzzled.

The 3 singles together.

TEETH OF THE SEA – Doom Boom Techno Turbine Freak Out On Their New Creepy Crusher ‘MEGAFRAGMA’

Daily electricity to load your batteries

20 July 2023

(Press photo)

Since their formation in 2006, London-based TEETH OF THE SEA trio have metamorphosized into the most adventurous psychedelic rock outfit in the UK.
Taking on board influences like Morricone, Eno, Delia Derbyshire, Goblin, and the Butthole Surfers , they’ve arrived at an incendiary sound that marries the aural enlightenment of
an avant-garde sensibility with the reckless abandon of the racket.

So far they fabricated 5 albums, with Wraith as their most recent, released in 2019.

And now after 4 years, they’re back to turn your mind upside down the way you like it.
LP number 9, titled HIVE will be unleashed on October 6 via Rocket Recordings.

Pre-order info here.

Album artwork

The first appetizer is a far-out 9+ minute sonic nightmare, named MEGAFRAGMA.

It’s a schizophrenic techno crusher that doesn’t stop booming and beating. Ominous synth waves keep on steamrolling out of your speakers. Imagine Chemical Brothers and Leftfield joining their electronic arms and pump/punk up the volume on an illegal rave crowded with troubled souls, gloomy goths and manic misfits. Sounds like big fun (well, sort of) until you see the accompanying video with a freakish close-up collage of creepy insects. I swear, once you’ve seen the clip it will spook through your mind for a while. Do you know/seen 1986 SF horror movie The Fly? That’s the scary idea.

Listen.
Watch.
Quiver.

JULIANA HATFIELD Can’t Get ELO Out Of Her Head

20 July 2023

Flamboyant American alt-rocker JULIANA HATFIELD
has been around for a while now, actually since 1986.

The past few years, she showed that she’s a sucker for covering other
(celebrated) artist’s songs. She even made full albums of it. One with
Olivia-Newton John tunes (2018) and one with The Police songs.

And she keeps on doing the same. Her next cover LP is dedicated to melodic pop/rock masters ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA (ELO), led by the tremendous hit-smith Jeff Lynne.

The 10-track LP is out on 17 November. More info here.

After sharing her take on Don’t Bring Me Down we get her version
of the downhearted 1974 ballad CAN’T GET IT OUT OF MY MIND.

She does it with endearment and elegance.

Tune in

Singer-Songswriter CHARLIE GRADON Enchants With Vocal Grandeur On New Single ‘YOUR MESS’

New striking strokes

20 July 2023

Artist: CHARLIE GRADON
Who: Singer/songwriter, originally from the old English county of Essex,
he moved to Australia when he was twelve. He meticulously crafts introspective
indie pop that both holds and shakes you at the same time. Citing influences such
as Radiohead, Bob Dylan, Daniel Johnston and Mac DeMarco. His sprawling, lyrical
songs are confessional and complex. So far he released 2 EPs.

New single: YOUR MESS

Gradon: It’s about inexcusable mistakes. It’s about spiralling, it’s about
running from your problems. But most of all it’s about the inherent goodness
within all of us. You got a lot of love in your heart.

TUTV: Your Mess starts gently with an acoustic guitar riff accompanied by
a heartbeat-like drum beat and some sparkling electricity. Slowly but surely
this scintillating musing catches fire when Gradon‘s voice reaches for the sky,
climaxing every time with goosebumps on the rose-coloured ‘you got a lot of
love in your heart’
chorus. Vocal grandeur, mellifluous orchestration and
encouraging
lyrics.

Feel your heart beat.

Sacramento’s DESTROY BOYS Trio With New Rollercoaster Single ‘SHADOW (I’M BREAKING DOWN)’

Daily noise that works faster than any stimulant

20 July 2023

Press photo by Ambar Navarro

Sacramento‘s pop-punk-rock act DESTROY BOYS formed in 2015 by outspoken Amazons Alexia Roditis and Violet Mayugba have been on a wild ride. They released, so far, 3 albums. Sorry, Mom (2017) Make Room (2018) and Open Mouth, Open Heart (2021) which gained millions of streams on Spotify.

The band’s name was taken from the words that Mayugba wrote on
her chalkboard at home during a period of relationship problems.

Last April they unleashed their first new music of
2023 with maddening missile Beg For Torture.

And in between touring, the destroying girls canned another
rad cannonball, titled SHADOW (I’M BREAKING DOWN).

Alexia Roditis: “Shadow… is about compassionately confronting the parts
of yourself that you don’t like, or do like but might be toxic. It’s an introspective
piece, taking notes from various spiritual beliefs and psychological research.”

This new juggernaut, sung in English and spiced with some Spanish fragments,
takes you on an adrenalized roller coaster breaking down on the cathartic chorus
with pithy panache.

Break out here.
