27 March 1987 – U2 On A Roof Where The Streets Have No Name 37 Years Ago

27 March 2024

Global rock stars U2 released their piece de resistance The Joshua Tree on 9 March 1987.

One of the sublime hit singles on the LP was WHERE THE STREETS HAVE NO NAME.
A video clip for the song was shot on the roof of a building in Los Angeles, 18 days after the album launch, on 27 March, 37 years ago today. The event drew thousands of people cheering in the nameless streets.

U2 played an 8-song set with 4 versions of the single. Eventually, the police ordered
the band and their crew to stop and leave as the audience became too big to handle.
Yet the clip won the Best Video Grammy Award afterward.

The masterstroke peaked at #11 in the US, #4 in the UK,
and topped the Charts in Ireland and New Zealand.

Relive the euphoric moments.

TEST PLAN – No Boredom With London’s DIY Disco Punk Trio And Their New Smack ‘WALKING IN A VACUUM’

Daily electricity to load your batteries

27 March 2024

Band: TEST PLAN
Who: London trio established in 2022. The trio are looking for the sweet spot between dancing and moshing. Last year they made an instant impression with their debut single So Bored At Your Squat Rave

New single: WALKING IN A VACUUM

“This song was recorded in our practice space, the music video was totally produced
by our drummer Max, the artwork was by us and the press campaign also by us.”

TUTV: Come on, all you nightclubbers out there, get out of your lazy couch, ’cause
here comes some red-hot-blooded shit to go berserk to. You get all the disco-inferno
punk decibels you need for a moshpit party with your friends on a non-stop 24-hour jamboree at your town’s discotheque.

Walk In A Vacuum is an ecstatic jump-for-joy master blaster whipped up by psychotic guitars and vicious drum/bass attacks while the singer screams his steel lungs out.

A challenging test to check out your stereo’s flexibility. Trust me, nobody will be
bored at your squat rave when you play TP out loud, really loud. Helter skelter.

Australian garage punk Aussies AMYL AND THE SNIFFERS are a sensational live act,
I know, I saw them turning up the heat twice (so far). Sweaty fired-up rock havoc. They released their eruptive self-titled debut LP in 2019 and followed it up with the riff-tastic
Comfort To Me in 2021.

And due to public demand they keep on touring.
This summer they’ll invade the US. Here’s the cool
poster with the upcoming dates.

Go for it, Amyl.

SOLITARY BEE – Fresh British Psych Pop Project Welcomes Spring With Brisk Debut Single ‘LOVE WAKES UP’

The first time

27 March 2024

Band: SOLITARY BEE

Who: A new musical project started
by 3 members British of psych rock act
It’s Karma It’s Cool

“We wanted to do something fresh, new, and slightly more left-field after we released
‘Thrift Store Troubadours’ in June 2023. A writing session soon after bore the fruit of
what would become the lead single ‘Love Wakes Up’. Being huge fans of Death Cab for
Cutie, this is what we’re calling our ‘The Postal Service’, and we’re as pleased with this
and have put as much time, love and attention into it as we have any Karma release”

TUTV: Spring is here. The harbinger of summer, with as much sun as possible.
Is it just me, or isn’t love more active in Spring/Summer than in Autumn/Winter.
Under blue skies and on sunlit days you see more people with a big smile on
their faces and more hearts are filled with joy.

That’s exactly the feel-good vibe you get from Solitary Bee‘s first effort.
Love Wakes Up is a sugary sweet psych-pop gem with sparkling guitars
and crystalline vocals. It’s a gratifying tune that evokes lovey-dovey feelings,
very welcome in these chaotic times we live in. Hear the brisk bee zooming.

Smith: “Our aim was to create a peppy yet powerful ode to the consolation
of music and companionship in the face of other people’s preconceptions.”

Favourite Songs is vintage MP electricity. Zippy, mettlesome and limbs-activating.
One of those very welcome wide-awake tunes in these restless times. Infectiously blithesome, with Smith‘s dynamic vocals in the middle. Touchdown.

STRAND OF OAKS – Timothy Showalter Presents New Endearing Love Ballad ‘MORE YOU’ From His Upcoming 8th Album

New striking strokes

26 March 2024

STRAND OF OAKS, the musical project of Timothy Showalter,
born 41 years ago in Indiana, now living in Austin, Texas has
his 8th LP, called MIRACLE FOCUS ready for release on June 7.

Showalater: “I spent over three years building Miracle Focus. In the midst of writing,
I became a painter and spent two seasons acting on a television show (Mayans MC).
The dichotomy of painting for days in my garage and then flying out to LA to play
a villainous biker on TV was one of the most thrilling experiences of my life.

The idea of Miracle Focus was born out of one simple concept: to make people feel good.
Throw in a healthy mix of Ram Dass, yoga, Freddie Mercury, Alice Coltrane, and Beastie Boys, plus over a year of writing and building the extremely dense architecture of the songs, and Miracle Focus was born. The result is FUN, wild, rhythmic music filled with synth layering and mantra-like lyrics intended to uplift and hopefully bring some light to whoever listens.

In many ways, this record is a love letter to bliss. Through meditation, I found a way
to connect with something greater, a positive force that allowed me to write music as
a manual towards a more love-focused life. And the miracles I refer to aren’t asking the
universe for anything; it’s just acknowledging and celebrating this complex beautiful moment that we all get to share. It will be gone, it will re-emerge as something new, that will be gone, repeat….repeat…repeat…this eternal cycle. My most sincere hope is that whoever listens might through sonic osmosis experience a similar joy.”

Along with the news comes first single MORE YOU. It starts, yes, with a sort of
Pink Floyd synth soundscape before it turns to an intimate, tender love ballad.

Endearing beauty.
