Band: WITCH CLUB SATAN
Who: Up and fast coming feminist black metal trio from
Norway. Last year, they released their Self-titled debut LP.

The trio studied the history of Norwegian witch trials,
and they incorporate that history into their music.

Nikoline Spjelkavik (guitarist): “The more we read about it, the more eager
we were to speak the words of these women. To really try to hear them, what
they would think and say in society today, what they would stand for.”

The band also tackle modern-day issues, like
environmentalism and the Gaza massacre.

“If you’re making art at this time you have to address the global, you have to show
where you stand: that you stand for all human lives and no one should be oppressed.
The feeling that music should be unpolitical to me feels impossible.”

“We want to show that love and care can be stronger weapons. We’re exploring gentleness
as a resistance movement. But it’s also about contrast — the world is scarred by war, where the violence seeps into those who care. When you care, you’re marked by the violence taking place. But through that awareness, we’re trying to show that the cycle of violence can be stopped.”

“In a world heavily influenced by an aggressive macho culture,” they continue, “belonging, empathy, and love become forces of resistance in and of themselves.”

Track: YOU WILDFLOWER
Their newest single.

TUTV: Black metal isn’t really my genre. But now and then I can dig the otherworldly
and demonic earthquake energy of it. Also I do like what this band stands for. And
then you have this sensational video clip for the new single.

Whether you like or not, these witches
will wake you up and scare the hell
out of you.
