Iconic psych rock band the GRATEFUL DEAD, named Deadheads
by their fans, came to the counterculture scene in San Francisco
in 1965.
The group featured Bob Weir (rhythm guitar/vocals), Jerry Garcia (lead guitar/vocals),
Phil Lesh (bass guitar/vocals) and Ron “Pigpen” McKernan (keyboards, harmonica,
and vocals).
Garcia died in 1995. It meant the end of the band, after 30 years and 13 LPs.
Bob Weir, who kept on making and playing music, passed away yesterday due
to cancer. He was 78. An extensive message from the family and entourage was
posted on Weir‘s Instagram account.
