Band: RED LAMA
Who: Formed by five friends from Svendborg, Denmark in 2011. Since then, the sextet has been refining their unique take on psych rock, music for the inner journey, carried forward by melody, groove and soundscapes exploding in grand crescendos.

New single: CHAOS IS THE PLAN
Third shared track from the upcoming new
album – their 3rd – Memory Terrain, landing
on 4 November.

Johannes Havemann Linnet Kissov (lead singer): “Chaos is the Plan is very much about atmosphere. The industrial, smoldering and slightly clubby atmosphere seems almost cinematic to me. The final form of the lyrics depicts a semi-sociopathic character drifting aimlessly quietly in the shadows, in disturbingly calm dialogue with himself.”

Expect a hypnotic and magnetic psych jam moving
hauntingly propelled by a groovy bass riff, sinister
synth layers, weeping guitars and emotive vocals.
Grand score!

Band: TWIN CITY
Who: Gritty Indie Rock & Roll band
based in Bristol, UK

New single: LOOKING GLASS

The sassy swagger of early Oasis and the energizing emotionality
of the Manics. Pretty cool, right? You betcha. Electrical Britpop
at its fervent best. Fabulous stroke!

Artist: LE CYGNE NOIR
Who: Little is known about the identity of this British musician.
His debut album Shadow of a Wrecking Ball was released in 2019.

New single: BURN BUNDY BURN
A piece from the upcoming Halloween
EP Death & Consequences, out on 28 October.

Noir: “I was writing at the piano and kept feeling a tap on the back, I was initially scared to death, I could feel a strange dark force feeding me words which I wrote down’ and decided to embrace it and use it. It was all I had. Sometimes inspiration can come from a strange place, and this was quite intense to say the least.”

Set at the frenzied speed of 165bpm, ‘Burn Bundy Burn‘ lurches out of the stereo
like Squeeze having a stab at “Bat Out Of Hell” while dialling up the fear factor to 11. The song is about American serial killer Ted Bundy (1946-1989).

It’s an zipped earworm fos sinister souls motorzied with schizophrenic
guitars, sultry sax fragements, pitty piano touches and menacing vocals.

Smell the sizzling sound
of the electric chair below…

Artists: NEIN DANKE
Who: Femal fronted acid punk duo. A crossover between German punk, Wave / Postpunk and Industrial. They pair uptempo tracks with dadaesc German lyrics on the adversities of life (as a woman and in general).

New single: GEISTERBAHN
From the pair’s new forthcoming EP.

This electronic kamikaze knockout rushes and races
like a fucked-up runaway train on its way to crash.

I dig this. You’ll dig this. I went bonkers, you’ll go bonkers.
I jumped up and down like a kangaroo on drugs, so will you.

Right here, right now…

5 New Indie Injections – Week 40 – 2022

New rad indie cuts to re-charge your batteries with, weekly

3 October 2022

Band: GRLwood
Who: The musical project of singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist Rej Forester that started solo in 2016. GRLwood currently performs as a duo, consisting of Forester and drummer, Mia Morris.

Single: KID BRUISES

The track maintains a retro, dream-like beat with punching vocals that hone in on the song’s message. This single deals with the often taboo subject of child abuse, and suicidal feelings from an early age. Although it can be hard to digest, the reality is that many children are in situations where they have similar feelings. Now that Rej is out of that situation, she is healing her inner child, and through this song, she hopes to help others feel less isolated in whatever they are going through.

Kid Bruises is a massive power-pop shout-out fed by anger, frustration
and hearftelt resentment following horrible experiences as a child.

Share this around your social media. It’s a crime to ignore this awful reality

Band: RATOON
Who: Indie youngsters from Wales

“Think youthful arrogance, raucous guitars, explosive drums and anthemic vocals
soaked in enough saturation to get you sweating and begging for more. That’s Ratoon!”

Single: MY MONEY

“It’s about the current climate. The government and current climate seem to be inflating the cost of living and the working man seem to be having their hard earned money taken away. Whether it’s increased tax and electric, to gas to heat their home.”

This is what real punk ‘n’ roll is about. It’s played by young wolves who rattle and clatter with a critical attitude, rebellious vim and titanic tunes like this. Holy smoke, here come some juvenile must-hear gunslingers.

Band: FEEP
Who: Boston 4-piece born from a cosmic spark shooting a
across the void and into your sensory organs.

Debut single: TAKE A PILL

Robert McDonald (guitarist/co-vocalist: “It’s a sarcastic commentary
on today’s society, and how we must tone ourselves down in order to belong.”

This spellbinding mid-tempo psych jam circles around a bad-ass rotating
riff that you can’t get out of your flipped-out mind afterward for a while.

Trust me, FEEP will be your new favorite medication.

Band: SOURDOUGH
Who: Rebellious noisenik trio

Single: MIND AND BODY
From their brand new debut EP Outlet. Check it out here.

Jacob Kyte (singer-guitarist) says, “We’ve come out the arse-end of a global pandemic,
only to be greeted by a massive increase in living costs, with a government that doesn’t give
a fuck about their country, or have any interest in fixing it — but kudos to them for no longer hiding their disdain for ordinary people.”

This is a full-blast-on sharp-cutting sledgehammer.
Nasty, provocative, and in-your-ugly-government-face.
Hell yeah!

Artist: GRANT BOYER
Who: A singer-songwriter from Alliston, Ontario
bringing Edgy Rock with a dash of humour – don’t call it dad rock.

New single: DE-EVOLUTION

“The melody and words for “De-Evolution” came pretty easily, after a brief exploration of social media. I learned really quickly that it’s best to ignore the majority of what people are arguing about online, regardless of whichever side they are on. That idea inspired the lyrics.”

Is it the end of the modern world, as we know, it? I have no clue, really,
but it’s not like we all do enough to avoid a total breakdown.

Anyway, Boyer, translates his pessimistic views on this matter into a guitar-insane blues belter for all of us who don’t care but should. Play it to the max and hope that one day – rather sooner than later – everybody loves everybody.

Turn up the heat here.

Band: ODONATA
Who: French psychedoommetal band.
Dark progressive sound with ancient spirits inside.
New single: ORIENTAL MEMORIES

A persistent, reverberating, menacing riff rotates on and on like
a nightmare in motion, messing your head up the way you actually like it.
This is a dirty groove jam extra fueled by nervous guitar sequences and
eerie vocals.

No rest for the wicked.
Fuel for restless minds.

Artist: DMITRY WILD
Who: Garage rocker, actor
and writer from New York City.

Single: THE SWEETEST THING
Piece from his forthcoming album
Electric Souls. More info here.

Wild: “‘Sweetest Thing’ is also about evolving and growing as a person
and one day you let the fear go and swim in the ocean rain, but all that
is done to punk shoegaze raunchy guitars that are reminiscent of Jesus
and Mary Chain and perhaps about of New Order in the bridge to have
it all explode in the guitar attack till the end,”

If you liked/like the post-glam-punk vibrancy
of the Scottish Reid brothers, you’ll like this
pschocandy stroke too, definitely.

Artists: LateCambrian
Who: Brisk pop/rock duo
from Brooklyn, NY

New single: HOMELY RAYA
From their tiptop new – 6th – album Future Snacks.
Stream it here.

Homely Raya is my fav cut. It’s an addictive psych groove with a trance-inducing flow.
Bang-on beats, flickering guitars, lots of sonic layers, and a duet chorus that brought
The Kills immediately to mind. Home run.

Check out the vibe…

Band: THE SAMURAIS
Who: A four-piece indie rock band from the South Coast of England. The band started out in 2018 playing covers gigs before spending lockdown working on their original material.

Debut single: SILENCE OF THE DAY

What a classy way to start writing/releasing your own songs. Silence Of The Day is a classic mid-tempo power ballad – think early Travis – growing in vivaciousness and devotion along its perfervid course. Add a short fiery guitar solo and you have a winner of a debut.

Band: UNDERCOVER MARTIANS
Who: Hailing from both sides of the Donegal-Leitrim border in the North West
of Ireland, this four-piece merges classic rock and punk indie sensibilities, drawing influences from the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Interpol, and Green Day.

New single: SARCASM IS SEXY

“The song is our poppiest to date. It still retains some of the raw instrumentation of our early singles, but is more polished and structured. Lyrically, the song deals with the initial stages of a relationship- all of the nerves and excitement that comes with meeting someone and falling in love for the first time. It simultaneously describes the anxieties and uncertainties of early relationships, as well as all of the exhilaration that comes with them as well. It is the first taste of our debut EP, which will be announced following the single release, and is one of the lighter moments on the EP as a whole.”

Wah-wah guitars with jangly echos and a sturdy drum/bass beat propel this indie belter. The twitchy resonance of the vocals reflects a feeling of insecurity many will recognize. Electrical romanticism for yearning earthlings.

5 New Indie Injections – Week 38 – 2022

New rad indie cuts to re-charge your batteries with, weekly

19 September 2022

Band: SPAMMERHEADS
Who: Quirky electro tandem from Valencia, Spain
Track: THE BIG MACHINE NEVER WRECKS

From the duo’s new blustering EP Tarblood / Cement Skin.
Buy/stream it here

“It is a raw sound, which seeks to reproduce the sounds of the suburban factories,
among which we lived when we were children. The sound of the Great Machine of
Industry at full throttle. We are happy because we believe that the album transmits
that strange energy typical of today’s big cities, wrapped in smog, pollution and
decadence.”

The EP’s opening track is a beating steamroller propelled by a repetitive,
head-twisting Chemical Bros-like techno riff and tense vocals. It gets
under your skin without asking. It’s a pitch-black sledge-spammer.

Get baffled here…

Band: SUNSHINE RIOT
Who: Indie grungers from Boston, MA.

Track: JUST SAY SO

The opening (and my fav) cut of their new rowdy 7-track Sparkle Baby 2000.

Sarkling new EP which lands somewhere between The Replacements and Nirvana.
Led by a pair of well-received singles (“Just Say So” and “Parole Board”) and a whole
lot of college rock and jangle-pop melody, the whole record is a gateway to autumn.
.
You can buy the EP via Bandcamp.

Just Say So has a post-grunge and slacker rock plangency that balances, sonically,
between Sebadoh and Dinosuar Jr. Infectious, bluesy, and spiked with jangly
guitars and ardent vocals.

First-class score.

Band: THE SPEED OF SOUND
Who: Longtime rock outfit. Throughout their long journey,
they have always been idiosyncratic, counter-intuitive and
perpetually looking for something new.

Track: CHARLOTTE

One of the new double A-side single.

After a punchy drums/haunting vocals intro this jagged jam explodes
with fervid firepower and turns into a psychedelic trip driven by feverous
guitars. Midway the roller coaster restarts heading to a sinister finale.

Ace!

Artist: SKINNER
Born Aaron Corcoran
Who: DIY slouch rock musician
from Dublin, Ireland

Track: COMMANDER TRAINWRECK

Skinner: “It all started when I was let go from my shitty office job that I hated. At the time I thought “this is great, I’ll just take some time off and spend it writing loads of music then I’ll
get a new job”, but it didn’t really work out that way. I didn’t know what I was doing with my life. I invented the character of “Commander Trainwreck” as a way of embracing my situation. I wanted other people to know that it’s okay to fuck up and if you need some time, then you need some time. I think everyone needs to be Commander Trainwreck at some point in their lives.”

For all the messed-up minds out there, here’s the ideal anthem that can be a consolation for your confused reality and despairing emotions. Commander Warinwreck will show the way with this terrifically magnetic groove that turns slowly but surely into a nasty I’m looking like shit rocker. Stand up, get up and fight for your right to fuck up.

Right here, right now.
