British Starry-Eyed Voice PEARL Shines On Debut EP ‘WHERE I GO’

23 July 2023

British singer-songwriter/producer PEARL who grew up in the English countryside,
much of her childhood centred around building dens in the forest, has released her delightful 4-track, titled WHERE I GO

“PEARL is my birthstone and holds a lot of symbolism
for me. I finally feel grounded and sure of myself.”

The EP showcases four tracks which touch on the theme of acceptance. Each song
was written as a way of processing emotions and events and moving on from them
in a positive way.

PEARL explains: “Writing these songs was a really reflective process, I would look back at a memory, make sense of it, and plot a path through. It was really cathartic. Music is very visual for me, and I love to create little worlds around it. This EP is verdant, a secret spot in the garden with round velvet chairs, cocooned and warm, with soft edges and lots of plants. I look at the music as biophilic, the synths, drums and production are the architecture, and my voice, the organic sounds, and the lyrics are the green and natural elements that run through…I’ve
always had an overactive imagination!”

TUTV: PEARL’s voice is the star in the middle, operating in a universe where you also can listen to Cocteau Twin‘s shiny vocalist Liz Fraser and Kate Bush‘s moonstruck moments. An instrumental instrument for four melodic ruminations, four sonic rainbows in the air and yours to take and to embrace. Where I Go is indie synth pop for dreamers who love to look at the bright side of life but fully know that reality can be a drag. Four-star debut. Another proof of how music can have a healing and soothing power.

5 July 2023

Artist: KONGRESS

Who: The musical project of 60s survivor Otto von Ruggins.
An experimental, New York based, act being around for light-years,
mixing Space-Goth-Tribal-New-Wave rock and other me(n)tal bangs.
Think legendary eccentrics Devo fooling around with avant-garde
freaks The Residents.

The mysterious Kongress unity returns with a new EP baptized SUMMER DAYS.
Sometimes I wonder if this project is 4 real and is not some sci-fi creation of Space
Odyssey
maestro Stanley Kubrick pretending it’s human. Anyway, listen/watch and
have a Close Encounter of the Third Kind experience after the melancholia of the title
track.

– SUMMER DAYS –

A ’Sodom & Gomorrah’ video according to Otto von Ruggins‘ wife and founding
member of Kongress, actually pays homage to the Largest Art Parade in America,
The Coney Island Mermaid Parade. Summer pop fever in colorful motion from the
past, when there was still hope.

I see trees of green
Red roses too
I see them bloom
For me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Louis Armstrong

Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!

“Money is the root for all evil
It’s the cause of most wars

Tap into the FutureLoop and prepare
Let Religion provide you with Civilty
It’s time for the New 10 Commandments”

This a techno banger for spaced-out trips
on Judgment Day and to start all over again
afterward from zero with 10 new rules.

A razzle-dazzle synth–missile with a whirlwind
of rappin’ samples. Beastie Boys fight again
for our right to party.

Best EP Of May 2023 – KIM GORDON/BILL NACE With Bone Chilling BODY/HEAD EP Named ‘COME ON’

2 June 2023

Artists: BODY/HEAD
Who: American experimental duo featuring former
Sonic Youth heroine Kim Gordon and guitarist Bill Nace.

So far they released a couple of EPs and three albums: Coming Apart (2013),
The Switch (2018) and the collaborative one with Wolf EyesAaron Dilloway (2021)

New EP: COME ON
Digital order info here.

Cory Rayborn (Three Lobed Recordings): “We have all been there at some point or another, maybe even last night. There are those moments when you are drifting into or out of sleep when it is hard to identify exactly what is real and what is imaginary. Time spent working through the hazy gauze separating waking and dreaming blurs the edges of perception and leaves us sorting through myriad versions of hyper-reality. The music of Body/Head has always existed for me within this liminal space. Whether it is Kim Gordon’s spectral, invocation-like vocals and churning guitar work or Bill Nace’s reality altering guitar conjurings, the duo have spent over a decade creating a singular body of work that rides that very knife’s edge. Are their sonic constructions here to help you or to harm you? To guide you to safety or to lead you into ruin? Where the listener sits mentally at any given moment helps determines the outcome along countless dualities. This mastery over unpredictability is why I have constantly considered them the most potent band going.”

Artwork EP

TUTV: With this 4-track EP Body/Head drags me into a surreal film noir, directed
by David Lynch, in which haunting music plays over shadowy Eraserhead-like images.
The soundtrack features bone-chilling distorted noise, psychotic guitars, anguished bass fragments, schizophrenic synths, and Gordon‘s ghostly and otherworldly vocals. Overall Come On is a nightmarish trip into a black hole. Mysterious, stupefying, and engrossing.
A fascinating feat.

Instrumental Noise Trio VANTRE With 3rd EP ‘TREEHOPPER (VOL. 3)’

3 May 2023

Band: VANTRE
Who: Three instrumental noiseniks
out of Paris, France

Promo photo by Giniusa

New EP: THREEHOPPER (VOL. 3)
Their 3rd extended play.

TUTV: Vantre mix post-punk, trash-and-clash havoc, metallic drones and barbed-wire electricity and what you get is what you hear. Bass/drum attacks, fueled with deranged guitars, going forth and back on Fart In A Jar. Siren-like guitars on a mid-tempo trip that ends with a deafening, apocalyptic eruption (Vitalik B.) A sonic nightmare creeping slowly like a hungry snake bringing the early days of Scottish noise-explorers Mogwai to mind,
on Pillage. And I’m pretty sure they arre fans of Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

BEST EP OF APRIL 2023 – ‘SELF LOATHING SELF HELP’ By Noise Exorcists RONKER

1 May 2023

Band: RONKER
Who: 4 Belgian misfits producing a mix between Danzig-era, Misfits meets Helmet, equally influenced by the earliest of hardcore punk and 90’s guitar music and thrash metal.

EP: RONKER
2 previous released singles
and their B-sides.

“‘Self Loathing Self Help’ tells a story about depression, suicide and the ones left behind. It was therefore deliberately chosen to bundle these four numbers. The songs clearly written as a process of coming to terms with losing loved ones, while struggling mentally yourself. The artwork by American artist Grant Fuhst shows both the flattened feeling of survivors guilt and the hopelessness that is so prominently felt in contemporary society. Throughout the four-part EP, singer Jasper De Petter rattles death wishes together, urgency is the central mood during the 17-minute playing time.”

TUTV: The first two jackhammers (previous singles) are the ones that can be dangerous
for your stereo’s well-being. Frontman De Petter‘s screaming is sky-scraping. Holy smoke, that guy has four lungs. His hurly-burly howls are fueled by anger, by fear, by grief and by any state of mind that transfers one’s mind to dark places, pitch-black places that is.

Goliath and Shame are merciless post-punk drones that resonate like Canadian hard-core gang Fucked Up fronted by Kurt Cobain at his worst mental moments. Flipped-out guitars and the hammering rhythm section push the decibels over the legal limit.

Excorsism at its disturbing best.

Solid and Old Reliable have a more reflective and a quiet/Loud/quiet/Loud timbre. Think
The Murder Capital. Mind you, De Petter‘s vocal range is still intact. These two mindfuckers emphasize once more the content of the EP: the crushing power of mental turmoil and soul-destroying guilt. It feels as if Ronker are still trapped in an endless dark tunnel and there’s still not a trace of light. On the other hand, this standout EP can be the first step
to healing.

26 April 2023

Two years ago, Oklahoma City‘s rowdy pandemonium rockers CHAT PILE
released a hot-boiling split 7″ with Texan scream team Portrail Of Guilt.

Last year they unleashed their bloody blasting debut LP God’s Country.

And now they return to what they did before. Splitting stuff with another band.
This time it’s muscled Kansas City’s gang NERVER who are the lucky ones. Both
groups have each 2 jackhammering songs on an EP titled BROTHERS IN CRIST.

Play it to the max. Test your stereo’s resilience.
But warn your neighborhood first that a titanic
storm is coming in order to avoid a visit by
the decibels police.
