Knockouts from the past

3 November 2019

On 3 November 1973, 46 years ago today, DAVID BOWIE scored his second UK Number One album with PINUPS, a collection of covers of 12 of his most beloved songs at the time. Turn Up The Volume‘s favourite one is SORROW, a song originally composed by American musicians Feldman, Gottehrer and Goldstein who were in band called The Strangeloves and wrote it for their countrymen The McCoys (best know for their ‘Hang On Sloopy’ hit) in 1965.

‘THAT’LL BE THE DAY’ By BUDDY HOLLY AND THE CRICKETS Topped The US Singles Chart 62 Years Ago…

Knockouts from the past

27 October 2019

Band: Buddy Holly And The Crickets
Song: That’ll Be The Day
Score: The single hit the top spot of the US Singles Chart
62 years ago today, on 27 October 1957
Note: Holly is regarded as the artist who defined the traditional rock-and-roll lineup
of two guitars, bass, and drums. He made a huge impression on future great stars such
as Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton. Especially John Lennon was a dedicated fan of the unfortunate rocker who died in an airplane crash, only 22. After Lennon and McCartney saw Holly playing for the first time they met and started studying his records, his performance style and lyricism. It’s no coincidence that ‘The Beatles‘ was derived from an insect name because Holly‘s band was named ‘The Crickets

Here’s the classic…

The Jam and this particular song, despite his elitist upbringing. He said:
“I don’t see why the left should be the only ones allowed to listen to protest
songs.
” I agree, but he should learn something out of it…
Note 3: The single peaked at #3 in the UK, their first Top Ten hit
