HAVVK – Irish Darkwave Duo Launch EYE-Catching Video Clip For Their New Nightmare Single ‘DAYLIGHT ROBBERY’

For your eyes

15 June 2023

Last month, Irish darkwave pop-rock act HAVVK released
their new stunning single DAYLIGHT ROBBERY.

A song about the safe spaces we create for ourselves, and the
exhaustion of feeling scrutinised outside of these boundaries.

Turn Up The Volume wrote: “A lot of angst and frustration erupt from the
very first moment that this raging burst attacks your stereo. Daylight Robbery‘s
sizzling post-punk exorcism grabs you by the throat from the get-go and never
loses its grip and its thundering velocity. Add Hough‘s bone-chilling vocals, and
you’ll experience a mind-crushing nightmare in broad daylight.”

HAVVK has now launched a brand-new video to visualize the song.

The clip explores themes of expectation and infringement of safety,
particularly for women and gender non-conforming people. It was directed
by Havvk‘s singer/musician Julie Hough and shot by Tim Shearwood entirely
in black and white.

Hough: “It’s about a girl who’s living the same day (or nightmare) over and over again.
We’ve been writing a lot about the topic of sleep lately – or lack thereof! I’ve had some
fun run-ins with insomnia and sleep anxiety in the last few years and it’s made me think
a lot about how our waking lives impact our subconscious and our connection to
our bodies.”

Talking about an EYE-catching video clip.

Roll the tape.
Get afraid.

HAVVK – Raging Post-Punk Exorcism With Their Brand New Nightmare Stormer ‘DAYLIGHT ROBBERY’

Daily electricity to load your batteries

25 May 2023

Band: HAVVK
Who: Irish alt-pop-rock act that started as the solo project of singer-musician Julie Hough. They lived for a while in London, then Berlin and are now back in their beloved Dublin. So far they released 2 LPs, Cause & Effect (2019) and Leveling (2021)

New single: DAYLIGHT ROBBERY

A song about the safe spaces we create for ourselves, and the
exhaustion of feeling scrutinised outside of these boundaries.

Julie Hough: “To us, community is so central to self-expression, but we’re living in a reality where communities and culture are becoming out priced and fragmented, and where people’s identities and bodies are becoming more politicised and up for debate. There is something sacred about having four walls or even an online space in which you feel like home – where
you feel like yourself. ‘Daylight Robbery’ is about the stress and anxiety of seeing these spaces invaded, even spaces that you call your own, and even the temptation to retreat into yourself
or to tone yourself down in response.”

TUTV: A lot of angst and frustration erupt from the very first moment that this raging
burst makes your stereo tremble. Daylight Robbery‘s sizzling post-punk exorcism grabs
you by the throat from the get-go and never loses its grip and its thundering velocity.

A sonic army of frenetic guitars, manic drumming, and barbed wire bass lines combine for a rabid rush of blood to the head. Add Hough‘s bone-chilling vocals, and you’ll experience a mind-crushing nightmare in broad daylight. Blimey.

Graceful And Beatific – Listen To ‘OPERATE’ By Irish Trio HAVVK Ft. Participant

Reveries for the laziest day of the week

21 June 2020

Last year Irish/British indie pop/rock and politically outspoken trio HAVVK
impressed with their highly striking album Cause & Effect.

The band decided to start up collaborations with other Irish artists to interpret songs
of Cause & Effect. The first reworked piece is Operate featuring Participant. It’s an aural pleasure to hear how a frisky synth pop jingle becomes a graceful and beatific ballad. Dreamy, ruminative and starry-eyed. Lovely!

The band initially evolved around Julie Hough’s solo project but evolved into a challenging

Track: 52 – newest single about “our experience of the growing political and social climate, and those who lead it. We hope that we start to celebrate and find the positives in what we share and makes us different rather than using them to drive a wedge between us.”

Score: What an all-powerful quit/Loud/quit outburst this is. Julie Hough‘s stupendous and passionately charged vox transfers this overall exuberant performance to a majestic level that already leaves a most notable mark after just one blood-curdling spin. A fabulous proof of how some artists can translate political commitment into an energized intensity able to affect affects the listener’s attention instantly. The accompanying clip fits perfectly well with the song’s overwhelming sensitivity.

Track: SHIFTING SHAPE – newest single / new clip

Score: This emotional eruption tackles the societal pressures to adapt how you look to fit into what society expects, especially around traditional assumptions of gender. I guess humankind just does not understand anything that is different to their out of date save-rules-book and are scared of anything that manifests itself outside their damn narrow-minded way of thinking. Bands like these, riveting outpourings like this are totally needed to at least make people think outside their medieval box of human perception.
