JUKEBOX 2026 – WEEK 37 – Five New Rad Tracks Added Twice A Week

Hello, music junkies.

Another batch of 5 new, stellar tracks has
been added to Turn Up The Volume’s Jukebox.

Turn it up.

ALL TOGETHER

.
TRACK BY TRACK

Band: LIARS
Who: Alt rock act fueled by its founder,
multi-instrumentalist Angus Andrew.

Track: ICE PICK, KALAMZOO
Lead single from their forthcoming 11th album, called
A Ban On Plastic Bag Bans. Out 5 March 2027.

Tracklist & more info here.

The album takes its name from an actual Michigan law that prohibits local governments from banning single-use plastic bags. After relocating to Kalamazoo in Michigan with his wife and daughter a number of years ago, Andrew was drawn into a campaign to hold a local factory to account for its use of toxic pollutants, and that experience largely inspired A Ban On Plastic Bag Bans.

TUTV: Liars are back with a big bang, big beats and a big tune.

Here comes big Andrew.

Band: BRONT
Who:
Brainchild of Belgian musician Brent Pauwels,
blending lo-fi, post-punk, garage rock, and pop into
a mesmerizing concoction.

Last year, their 4-track debut EP #9 came out.

Track: BREAKFAST
Newest single.

TUTV: This madcap, head-spinning synth-guitar jam doubles your adrenalin
production from the get-go but not for long. After only 92 seconds, they pull
the plug and your brainfucking breakfast is abruptly over. No worries. Press
the repeat button, on repeat, and satisfy your sonic appetite all day long.

Band: THE BABY SEALS
Who: Garage punk trio from Cambridgeshire, UK.
They released their debut album Chaos in 2024

Track: IRENE

“Originally entitled ‘Ode To Irene’s Cunt’ (and shortened for radio friendly purposes), it draws inspiration from Le Con D’Irene, a surrealist erotic novel from 1928 by French author Louis Aragon about a man’s relationship with an imaginary vulva, whilst reflecting on how we can allow relationships and visions to be birthed and accepting unexplained unconditional connection.”

The single comes ahead of a live album, titled Live At The Portland Arms
and out on 16th October 2026. It was recorded in Cambridge when the band
were supporting Lydia Lunch. Artwork here above.

TUTV: Goosebumps from start to finish. This dark-colored, psychedelic wandering progresses like a serpent following its prey, slow and determined to attack when the moment is right. Near-whispering vocals, ominous pace, minimalistic drum-guitar instrumentation, like an Interpol jam stripped to the bone. Spine-chilling.

Dim the lights.

Band: BRITISH BIRDS
Who: Resolutely DIY outfit
from Chorley, Lancashire.

Track: SCARY MOVIES
New single from their upcoming album
named Murmurate, Oscillate’ out on
October 16th.

The song is a poignant description of band members Bobby and Emma’s grandfather,
who delighted in showing them horror films when they were kids – giving them
sneak previews of the darkness they’d come to embrace as adults.

TUTV: This straightforward, jangly footstomper arouses your limbs from the kick-off.
A persistent drum/bass tandem hits unyieldingly, with panache, all the way through,
while agitated vocals and buzzing guitars go forth and back. Striking stroke.

Band: CAGE THE ELEPHANT
Who: The lauded and long-lasting
alt rockers from Kentucky.

Track: DYING IN REVERSE
It follows last July’s newbie
Beaches In Tennessee.

“‘Dying In Reverse’ is essentially about a fresh start or a rebirth of sorts. More in terms of death to ego, renewing the mind and heart. The journey of turning your perspective away from self in order to see more clearly through the lens of love and connect to deeper purpose.”

TUTV: 2nd single in 3 months and announcement of tour dates in 2027
hint definitely, maybe to a new album. But first, this moody groover.

Post Punks LIARS At Their Best On Their 10th Album ‘THE APPLE DROP’

7 August 2021

Band: LIARS
Who: Australian-American indie rock trio
Active: Since 2000 / 9 albums (so far)

New album: THE APPLE DROP – 10th LP
Out: 6 August 2021 – more info here

NME says: “To hear Angus Andrew discuss the ungoverned maelstrom of
Liars’ career – whereby a bunch of ‘00s NYC funk-punks turned to witch rock,
then to various forms of experimental electronica and dance via a myriad of
diversions along the way – you’d start believing it has its own perfect physics;
an imperceptible molecular order, a post-rock M Theory where the chaos make
sense… Andrews keeps hook-lines at the heart of the record, anchoring music
that might otherwise drift out of orbit. To paraphrase Arthur C. Clarke: science,
sufficiently advanced, is indistinguishable from magic.”

Full review here. Score: 4/5.

Turn Up The Volume: Even after 9 albums Angus Andrews and his team
succeed to surprise. This 10th album is full of ideas, tunes and stuff that
keeps your ears busy for a while.

Five Firecrackers To Stay On Track… In The Weekend

17 July 2021

‘I’m Only Talking’ by MEWN (Manchester)

Frontman Daniel Bluer: “It is long but I think it does a lot with that time, it’s fully realised. Lyrically I just tried to mirror the emotion I felt from the sound, the way it felt to me. I think
I have tried to express loss, defiance and a melancholy that has some joy mixed in with it,
which personally feel like it always does.”

This is what epicness is all about. An experience that makes you feel out-of-your-daily-mind, an experience that makes you forget anything and everybody except for what’s going on in your headphones. Melodrama, heartache, despair, and tears. It’s all part of human nature, as we know it. Throwing in melancholic Interpol guitars and a Verve-esque sentimentally lifts this song to a cry-your-heart-out anthem. Ignore the machos.

Just listen and feel…

.
‘Big Appetite’ by LIARS (Australia)

Wayward as we know Liars for years now, meaning: wayward as we know them
for years now. From upcoming album The Apple Drop, their 10th, out 6 August.

Eat here…

‘I Am A Situation’ by AUTOGRAMM (Chicago)

This synth-Krautrock-like jam grooves and moves under your skin from the kick-off, without asking. Again, the hypnotic force of sonic repetition proves its trance-inducing effect. You want this situation to continue, on and on. From the band’s Rules album.

Press the repeat button…

‘Transparent Love’ by SUPER SPACE NATION (Los Angeles)

These Los Angeles power pop-punks are “on a mission to fight toxic masculinity in the rock scene.” Their new electrifying cracker is about “taking full accountability for one’s actions and communication in relationships.” Damn right. Be who you are, but respect others. That’s the only way to keep this troubled world going. And don’t forget to rock your ass off.

Right here, right now…

‘Lover Baby’ by THE DILL (Canada)

Be ready for some funky monkey business. Get up, stand up and make your move while savoring the moment. Don’t worry be happy. Have yourself a careless I’ll-see-what-happens moment and have your head floating in the clouds. Listen up: “Sometimes we need to just
go for a walk and dance down the street for the hell of it – taking the piss out of life.”
Bingo!

Tune in and go apeshit…

See/hear you next week, music junkies…

Second Single From Upcoming Album – LIARS Have A ‘BIG APPETITE’

Band: LIARS
Who: Australian-American indie rock trio
Active: Since 2000 / 9 albums (so far)

New album: THE APPLE DROP – 10th LP
Out: 6 August 2021 – more info here

New single: BIG APPETITE – 2nd cut from the LP
Slo-mo stonker with a haunting and spooky progression. Top!

Angus Andrew (the band’s orchestra master) about the video
for the new song: “I thought that spelunking with bats for the
first single Sekwar video tested the upper limits of my fear
tthreshold, but it turns out having a revved up drill pointed
close to my forehead for a day is truly the stuff of nightmares.”
