Why Outspoken Blitzkrieg Punk Gang IDLES Is The Best Fucking Band Right Now On Our Troubled Planet…

IDLES – De Zwerver, Leffinge, Belgium – 2 November 2018

Soon, at the end of the year, Bristol‘s steamrollin’ punks IDLES will be in countless 2018
lists in two categories: best album and best live act. Second longplayer JOY AS AN ACT
OF RESISTANCE
catapulted the band into the highest regions of alternative music. It’s an awesome red-hot-blooded record capable of bringing your speakers down, but also, and actually most of all, this socially committed combo looks, acts and plays like HUMANS – very exciting ones, that is – they write about ALL HUMANS and they do it for us, HUMANS. Read the gripping interview NME had a couple of months ago with blazing frontman Joe Talbot right here and you’ll learn that this dynamite squad has a very BIG HONEST HEART!

And then there are their smashing live shows. On a podium, this down-to-earth quintet becomes a blitzkrieg machine blowing your minds unstoppably with emotional force and relentless panache. Yesterday was my fourth live encounter. Another oh-yeah-fucking-hell experience. Explosive every-nerve-in-his-body-is-alive-and-kicking frontman Joe Talbot leads the hair-raising troops but all of his remarkable teammates assist him brilliantly to make the crowd go totally gaga. Everybody’s screaming, yelling, jumping, cheering, clapping and sweating with the greater part of the crazed crowd involved in the boiling mosh-pit in the middle of the fired-up venue and at one point many of us, including myself, hit the stage
to hop around madly like a bunch of wild kids. Yes, folks, this is what ENTERTAINMENT is all about. Having the time of your life on a night out and returning home, voiceless, with a large smile on your face. Great bands make people feel BLOODY HAPPY! This hot clan is not only great, right now, right here IDLES id the best fucking band on this troubled planet…

If you never heard of them , check this cooking BBC TV performance and
you’ll realize why I’m in a euphoric state during and after an Idles gig…

SLAVES – Garage Punk Bolide Inflamed Mad Moshpit On Sweaty Halloween Night In … GHENT BELGIUM

SLAVES – Handelsbeurs Ghent, Belgium – 31 October 2018

With programming British booming and hammering tandem SLAVES on Halloween night, you have a red-hot-blooded winner. I’ve seen and (most of all) heard this loud and bloody clear 2-motor garage punk bolide several times before. This is one hell of a rip-roaring mad-for-it party unit. And they maked-up themselves appropriately last night in my busy hometown of Ghent for a razzle-dazzle bogeymen noise orgy. As I experienced before
this glorious scream-along outlaws developed again a deafening energy above decibel-normality. Again their riotous impact started a non-stop crowded moshpit. Again their
in-your-face-honesty was just fucking (the most used adjective of the night) contagious
and we all yelled along at the top of our oiled lungs. Even after three blustery albums this committed kick-ass powerhouse keeps on slamming a variety of daily reality shit – racism, sexism, narcissism, consumerism, capitalism and many other evil ism’s that divided our troubled planet painfully the past few years… again – and when they hit a stage they do
it with and for the audience. No pompous nonsense, no snobbish bollocks, no irritant patronizing. Slaves keep it simple, clear-cut and speak/shout from their worried hearts.

If you never heard of these two human molotov cocktails
then here’s a splendidly messy idea of their live power

One Of The Loudest Kick-Ass Engines On The Planet – Here’s PINK ROOM…

PINK ROOM – De Centrale – Ghent, Belgium – 17 October 2018

You want it loud, deafeningly loud. I mean DEAFENINGLY & EAR-SPLITTINGLY LOUD!
Than clamorous motherrockers PINK ROOM are the merciless canons that can fulfill
all of your deranged wishes. I wrote about these mind-crashing outcasts before and I
will do so in the future. The key man of this volcanic trio is that devilish frontman and bassist BART COQUYT. A loudmouthed primal screamer producing the blustering sound of a supersonic starfighter on its way to crash. His far-out demonic vox is beyond normal and I’m sure one day his head will literally explode on stage. Compared to this madman’s decibels level the late, great Kurt Cobain sounds like a smooth folk singer. Maestro Coquyt is assisted by a thunderous drummer and a rip-roaring guitarist turning this three-headed noise beast into a giant force able to blow all fucking Trumps of this troubled world into space… forever. Hallelujah. Hail hail Pink Room!

Picture This…

One of the best concerts I ever witnessed – even Ian Brown sang in key. A special, magic experience. It was an all-nighter. Me and a friend stayed until 6 in the morning until the venue closed. Then we went for a pizza and coffee in a small 24/7 resto. Then we took the metro to Victoria Station. Train to Dover. Ferry to Calais. And with the car back to Belgium.

MANIC STREET PREACHERS Touch Hearts And Souls In Rainy Belgium

MANIC STREET PREACHERS – Lokerse Feesten, Belgium – 10 August 2018

The Manics once covered B.J. Thomas‘ 1970 hit Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head (written by Burt Bacharach/Hal David). Well, yesterday at the open air Lokerse Feesten Festival in Belgium it rained fiercely all night long. After the long heat wave period, it
seemed like the rain wanted its revenge. James Dean Bradfield thanked sincerely the
wet crowd for being there. And, yes, the bad weather definitely didn’t stop thousands of us, including a legion of British fans wo crossed the channel for the Welsh legends and co-headliner Kasabian, to scream at the top of our/their lungs.

The short, but highly vibrant one-hour set was a flaming mix of the crème de la crème of their countless hits, three standouts (International Blue / People Give In / Hold Me Like Heaven) from their new flamboyant LP Resistance Is Futile and a perfectly matching cover of The Cure‘s In Between Days .

Despite being soaked to the bone you can’t but being totally energized by Manic Street Preachers’ imperishable live power, overwhelming stage energy and their anthemic tsunami of massive tunes. Our bodies went cold by the persevering rain but the Welsh romantics did again, for the umpteenth time in my case, what they do best: keeping the many fans’ hearts and souls warm and glowing and their voices lubricated.
We still love them, no doubt about that…

Garage Blitzkrieg Rock Misfits THE GLÜCKS Ran Steamy Amok At Ghent Fest

THE GLÜCKS – Ghent Fest, Belgium – 19 July 2018

What the fuck! Belgium‘s sweatiest, thrashiest and steamiest 2-motor garage rock engine nailed it again. Yes, folks, furious amok runners THE GLÜCKS played a smashing set yesterday at Ghent Fest. These two mind-twisting drums/guitar misfits turn into an unstoppable volcanic eruption the second they hit the stage. They scorch, whizz, roar, scream, rumble, twist, shout, yell, rebel, steam, blaze, boil, burn, electrify, steam, whirl, discharge, thunder, smash, rock, drumfire, trigger, resonate, blister, inflame and turn
a hungry crowd into a state of trippy ecstasy. They all did this and more once again, last night in my hometown. Heavy shit! Smoking stuff! Fierce noise! Red-hot blitzkrieg! Hot-blooded performance! Hail hail The Glücks! New video ‘Why Do I Love You?’ will give you
a cracking idea of their psychobilly power…

KEVIN MORBY Playing Dreamy City Music At BOOMTOWN FESTIVAL in GHENT BELGIUM…

KEVIN MORBY – Boomtown Festival, Ghent, Belgium – 17 July 2018

Last Tuesday exquisite Texan singer-songwriter KEVIN MORBY landed with his excellent band in sunny Belgium to play the Boomtown Festival in Ghent. His delightful set of moony daydreams and upbeat country rock beauties enamoured a fully crowded square in the middle of this historic town. The title track of his newest album CITY MUSIC never sounded so appropriate and set the tone for a full hour of tempting and touching songs selected from his four albums…

MEET Arty Creepy Crazily Whacky Madly Hurly-Burly Sturm Und Drang Combo DIANE GRACE…

DIANE GRACE – Kinky Star, Ghent, Belgium – 17 July 2018

From Antwerp, Belgium here’s chaotic noise beast DIANE GRACE. A clamorous band you can scare your neighbours with, a theatrical turmoil band you can go totally berserk to, a tumultuous band capable of starting ketchup revolutions in shitty nightclubs, a punk band for psychic patients, a harebrained band of wackos you can cause PANIC with…

Yesterday night they did it again in my hometown Ghent, sounding, looking and acting completely… whizzy, scuzzy, frizzy, queazy, snazzy, exequy, zincky, quacky, jimply, blowzy, jockey, frowzy, jiminy, jangly, jingly, cozily, frouzy, frenzy, manicly, floozy, godverdomme, jalopy, veejay, litzy, peppery, jinny, skivvy, beastie, qwerty, chips with paprika, arty, hazily, japery, chubby, jetway, chuffy, whacky, alkoxy, miljaar, packly and kinky. I have actually no idea what all these bloody words exactly mean, I
just picked them because their nutty sound matches last night’s liberating spirit. I am
sure, this diabolic three-headed monster doesn’t give a flying fuck either of how people perceive them as artists. That is what makes their exuberant sonic exorcism so damn fascinating. Don’t try to analyze them, don’t try to put them in a box, don’t try to even understand them. Just e-x-p-e-r-i-e-n-c-e them…
